Rating: Summary: The Dollhouse Murders Review: Betty Ren Wright's The Dollhouse Murders is a creepy, exciting book about a murder that took place 30 years ago. Amy needs a break from her brain damaged sister, so she goes to stay with her moody aunt, just outside of Claiborne. Little did she know her great grandparents were murdered in the very house she's sleeping in. In the attic is a precious doll house that is an exact replica of the house in which she's staying. This dollhouse is trying to tell a secret about the night of the murders. At night, the dolls move into different positions, relating to the murder. It's up to brave little Amy and her loyal friend Ellen to solve the mystery of the death of Amy's great grandparents. I think this is a great book and I recommend everyone to read it.
Rating: Summary: fun, scary mystery Review: I read this at 12 and 30 years old and really liked it both times. BRW is a good writer & the story flows smoothly. Under 200 pages, it doesn't have a lot of filler material. Every chapter is crucial to the story unfolding. I wish there was a little more character development for Amy and Ellen and less of Louann, but you can't have it all.
Rating: Summary: had to read it for school but still really liked it Review: In the beginning it takes place in a town called Claiborne. Later in the story the setting moves to the countryside near Claiborne where Amy's Aunt Clare lives in an old house. Amy, the main character, feels like her parents treat her unfairly, so she runs away to her Aunt Clare's house. At Aunt Clare's house Amy notices that dolls in a dollhouse move mysteriously all by themselves. The dollhouse is a miniature copy of her Aunt's house. But nobody believes Amy about the dolls, except her sister Luanne who also sees them move. It's like the dolls are trying to show the girls how their grandparents were killed a long time ago. What's not to like about the book! It kept me guessing right up to the end. I also liked that it was a mystery but was not full of violence and lots of people dying. It was also interesting to see how the characters change in the story. In the beginning of the book some people expect Amy just to play with her sister and other people understand that it's hard for her. Amy is frustrated. By the end of the book, Amy learns to appreciate her sister and her mom.
