Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Something for the young 'uns
Review: As indicated by the title, the target audience of "Shoofly" is children - between three and six years old I would guess. I have no children and possess a copy of this tape because I contributed a poem to this particular volume of Shoofly (a contributor's copy as it is called in the business). This is the first "issue" of "Shoofly" - which continued on for two or three more editions, I believe - and was published in 1994.

This is an audiocassette consisting of a mix of poems, stories and songs for young people. I am not sure of the running time, but it must be between 30-45 minutes of material. The over all quality (sound, performances, etc.) is decent and, while adults might not find much to engage their minds here, children will probably be entertained for the duration.

There is an insert with ample information about the authors (including yours truly) and the performers (stories and poems were submitted by writers and performed by actors/singers in most cases).

A small selection of titles may give you some idea of the content and nature of "Shoofly":

"Hardley, A Clown in the Sky"

"The Dancing Pig"

"Princess Alexandra and the Morning Frost"

"Why the Lion Rumbles So" - (my humble contribution!)

An ambitious project, produced with love and respect for its young audience, "Shoofly" will no doubt engage and entertain your little ones (and no, I am not collecting royalties).
