From the beginning this book keeps you awake. The mystery begins from the first page. I'm in the middle of the book and so far I have no idea who the killer might be! Gail O'Connor is an attorney in Miami. Gail is fighting for the custody of her daughter Karen, and Gail's lovely fiancee Anthony Quintana is going through family problems.
Two monthes before Gail and Anthony's wedding everything started to go wrong. I'm wondering who wants to kill Gail. So far this looks like a revenge
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A great suspense novel Review: From the first page to the last, this was a real suspense book. Without giving too much of the story away, it's about a high-class lawyer who lives alone with her daughter. She then started to get these weird and threatening phone calls, which then turned into things that were far more serious. As the story goes on, twists and turns await the reader, and blood is spilled and fingers are pointed. There isn't much else to say about this book other than the fact that Barbara Parker is a genious when it comes to writing suspense novels. Be sure to check out her other novels!
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Connor And Quintana Are Back In Ms. Parker's Best To Date!! Review: Gail Connor, successful litigation attorney and single Mom is back along with daughter Karen, ex-husband Dave, and hunky fiance Anthony Quintana with a suspense thriller that will keep you up reading way past bedtime.Gail, as always, is trying to juggle motherhood, her career, and her relationship with Quintana, a Cuban American defense attorney, and frequently comes up short. With her marriage only weeks away, a new house to be renovated, a troubled adolescent daughter, and an ex-husband who is battling her for custody of their child, she has more on her hands than usual. She is presently working on a difficult divorce case involving a millionaire, who pleads poor, and his abused wife. Then Gail receives a chilling anonymous phone call threatening her life. The call is repeated and her car is vandalized. Next, and most frightening, her daughter's life is threatened. Gail panics. If all this isn't enough to stress her out completely, she begins to suspect Anthony of shady dealings with organized crime. Barbara Parker is at her best with this fourth novel in the Gail Connor series. Along with the chilling mystery she delivers intelligent insight into the Miami Cuban American community, both cultural and political. It is not necessary to read the other books in the series to appreciate and enjoy this one. I have read all four novels, in order, and am more addicted to the stories of the lives of the main characters, and their development, than to the mysteries. The characters are some of the most original, realistic and compelling that I have discovered in light fiction. Ms. Parker's people are not always nice, and the friction in their relationships is familiar, refreshing and on target. I highly recommend this book, as well as the other "Suspicion of..." novels. So I thought I'd try one. It was excellent. It kept me reading from the very first minute I picked it up. I will not hesistate to read more of her books. In my opinion, she is a great author!
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Exciting Review: I loved this book. Gail Connor, the protagonist, is faced with a real life dilemma: how to maintain a civil relationship with her ex-husband for their child's sake and how to prepare that child to accept a new life with a Cuban American stepfather. Gail's love life is complicated because David, the ex-husband, is weak, needy and still in love with Gail while Anthony, the Fiance, seems strong, possessive and passionately in lust with her. On top of this complication, when Gail starts receiving menacing phone calls and disgusting photos that hint at violence to her beloved daughter Karen, each man accuses the other of masterminding these threats. All Gail wanted out of life was to be a successful lawyer, a good mother and a good "Cuban" wife. Instead, her law practise is struggling, David is fighting her for custody of Karen and Anthony's Cuban connections seem sinister and ruthless. This was an exciting book in my opinion. There is a hint that Parker will continue the Gail/Anthony love affair in another book and I look forward to it.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: A Good Read Review: I thoroughly enjoy reading the continuing story of Gail and Anthony. The politics of the Cuban-American community in Miami is interesting. The characters are well developed and engaging. However, it is frustrating to have Gail continuously making stupid mistakes. As a lawyer with her own practice, you'd think she would smarten up. The book would have gotten 5 stars from me if the ending (regarding the stalker) wasn't so predictable. The author gave away the identity of the stalker about three-fourths of the way through the book so the last fourth was pretty flat as far as the mystery was concerned. The story between the main characters continued to be engaging and I can't wait for the next book in this series to see what happens between them.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Delicious Suspense Review: Miami attorney Gail Connor is having a run of bad luck in "Suspicion of Betrayal." Her new law practice is in trouble, her new house is falling apart, her ex-husband can't pay her back the money she lent him from her trust account to bail him out of a business disaster, and there's trouble in paradise with fiance Anthony Quintana. To make matters worse, Gail begins receiving death threats which escalate into acts of terrorism directed towards her young daughter. Could her ex-husband be behind the threats, engineered to ensure that he gets custody of their child? Or is it a client? If not one of Gail's current clients, could it be one from the past with a grudge? Or maybe it's one of the very controlling Anthony's business associates or family members. What great fun it was to find out! I had a pretty good idea who it was about halfway through the book, but the writing was good enough and the suspense level high enough to supersede that. Miami in all its splendor and squalor is captured in these vividly descriptive pages. It's cold here in Virginia but, I swear, I could almost feel a Miami sweat breaking out. Although there are a number of passages in this book when the reader feels like saying to Gail, "Wise up, girlfriend", what a great read it made following the clues to the final harrowing confrontation.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Better in the beginning, then somewhat tiresome. Review: Poor Gail Connor is in constant angst! Sometimes you want to give her a hit upside the head and other times you have to admire her guts to keep moving. So many pressures from so many sides. How does Anthony stand it. Well, in this one he doesnt for long. I couldnt put this book down; puzzles from page to page, chapter to chapter. Barbara Parker writes such intelligent books. I am not a fan of legal procedurals but she is slowly converting me! Good on ya,Barbara! The ending is a great leadin to Suspicion of Malice.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: more miami vices Review: stereotypic relationship between headstrong yet clinging divorcee on the rebound and insufferably macho cuban fiance. well drawn miami setting for a plodding plot.concludes with the door open to a similarly dysfunctional sequel.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Barbara Parker gets better with each new book Review: This fourth installment in the legal thrillers featuring attorneys Gail Connor and Anthony Quintana is a compelling read--an intriguing story line involving an-increasingly determined stalker, characters that come alive on each page, and a surprise ending that leaves you waiting for the hoped-for next installment. The author makes Miami and its Anglo and Cuban-American residents come alive, while adding further wrinkles to the complicated relationship between her two protagonists. When you finish this book, if you haven't already read the three others in the series (Suspicion of Innocence, Suspicion of Guilt, and Suspicion of Deceit), do so to quadruple your reading pleasure.
