Summary: Another Dishonest and Self-Promotional Work
Review: Actually, if the reader can get beyond the Eckankar dogma and Twitchell's self-promotional tactics this book can be a good read! Just substitute your own Higher Self or God-soul in place of Rebarz. Twitchell created the character of Rebazar Tarzs in order to claim initiation into the order of Vairag Adepts (found in his previous spiritual path of Radha Soami Satsang). He was no longer a chela of Kirpal Singh (his real former Master) and thus created Eckankar and a lineage of Masters through plagiarism and lies. Twitchell claims his old Master was Sudar Singh, but why was Twitchell not appointed as mahanta/Master when Sudar died if this was true? Who took Sudar's place then? Thus, the need for the Tibetan... Rebazar Tarzs to take the place of the imaginary Sudar. Anyway, as you can see Twitchell's accounts of these meetings with the "Tibetan" now become suspect.

Summary: The Lies of Twitchell Gently Presented
Review: I admit... this book has some fundamental truth regarding Self. However, the imagined spiritual master, Rebazar, is a creation of Twitchell's in order to give validation to a linage of eck masters. The creative validation gives those after Twitchell (Klemp) the authority as Mahanta (master of all masters, and greater than God). As I said, the book reads very well (except for the Thee and Thou), but beware of the underlying dogma which is presented in a subtle and gentle manner.

Summary: changed my life
Review: I was given this book over 25 years ago. My life then was like the northern european weather - prone to long grey periods with the occasional patch of sunlight. Stranger By the River is a book of the heart. It transcends religious denominations as easily as time itself. Wherever your Spiritual Path takes you, this book will ensure you have plenty of light and sound to show you the way. I read a chapter at a Catholic funeral of an old friend not so long ago. Amongst others, even the Priest wanted to know who wrote the words. They are indeed a gift of love.

Summary: Highly recommended discourse of the nature of Divine Love.
Review: In " Stranger by the River", Paul Twitchell answers the call of the true spiritual seeker. This treatise on Divine Love gives insights into the nature of God and love in our lives. Each chapter provides wisdom on the release of Soul from the little self, or ego. This book is one of my favorites and each rereading helps me understand more fully the nature of Divine Love

Summary: changed my life
Review: Shimmering vibrant images, thought provoking phrases float off the pages re-igniting some deep long repressed yearning for answers. Such is this lyrical, almost poetic tale. For example, "The wind ruffled the willows and whipped up the surface of the river. The Tibetan walked slowly along the bank studying the sunlight that glistened upon the water, and the seeker followed, watching every movement of the magnificient figure in his maroon robe". or"Love is like a slow , consuming fire which starts in the center of man's heart and slowly moves outward, destroying all that is in its path. Nothing can stop love, and even when it appears to be quenched, it will break out somewhere else. So it is with freedom".I also liked, the passage on being a magnet of Love. I like this book. After I finished reading it, the words, the rhythm remained in my mind resonating like a Mozart Sonata. Akin to Gibran's, "The Prophet" or even the ancient songs of David. Thought-provoking and profound.

Summary: Stranger By The River
Review: This is a must read for any Soul wanting to hear word from the Love in the center of God's heart. God speaks through the writer and the words spoken by the ECK Master Rebazar Tarz to the very Soul of man.

Summary: A Timeless Classic
Review: This is wonderful book full of penetrating insights from both Paul Twitchell and his Tibetan Spiritual Mentor Rebazar Tarzs. Well written, it's in the class of Gibran's works, William Blakes works, and other great writers. It is full of love a great book to read daily for spiritual wisdom and insight. I conssider one of the best books I have read. I have read it cover to cover 5 or 6 times. I can't imagine ever not enjoying reading it. It's helped me become a more loving, compassionate human being. I really value what I have gotten from this book. I strongly recommend it to all Soul's looking for more love, insight and meaningfullness in their lives. A must read.
