Summary: Different From The Movie, But Nonethless Compelling
Review: I saw the TV movie when it came out in May of 1999. I watched it in total suspense and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was also delighted when I discovered that it was based on a novel. And I was positively tickled pink when they had it at my local library. I checked it out and read it on 2 days. In the movie, the parents were happily married, but in the book, they are seperated due to the mother's alcoholism. Robin, the main character, is a confident young girl when she goes to Summer Camp and meets a painfully frightened and shy girl who seems scared of her own mother, whom she discusses frquently. During a dare, the shy girl goes into a lake, despite the fact that she can't swim. Unfortunately, the young girl drownds and since Robin gave her the dare, she blames herself for the tragedy. When Robin and her father move into the new apartment complex, Robin meets a kindly middle aged woman, or so she seems. As the woman's behavior grows stranger and stranger, the suspense builds. I love this book because you never know what'll happen next. A riveting and chilling psychological thriller for those of us who are exahusted with endless police plot stories. Enjoy!
