Rating: Summary: Excellent, excellent, excellent Review: I had never read a Jackie Collins book before, so I decided to start with her most recent work. By the first chapter I was hooked, and managed to finsih the book within three days. The reason for this being because it is such a brilliant read. There is mystery, suspension, desire, lust... everything you want in a book. What more could you ask for. It's just an excellent, excellent, excellent book. In fact probably the best book I have ever read. I decided to read another of her books after, and this seemed to be very similar to Thrill, but is also a very easy read. Keep up the good work Jackie, because never before have I read such an addicitive, clever, witty, and brilliant book as this one.
Rating: Summary: Grear read!!! I couldn't put it down!!! Review: I have read all of Jackie Collins' books with the exception of the LA Series (which I'm currently reading) and this book was no disappointment. I love her books. This book took me away and made me feel like I really knew the characters. I can't wait for her new book Dangerous Kiss to be released. She has the most awesome characters in her books. Keep up the great work Jackie!!! Peace.
Rating: Summary: engrossing Review: I think the author did an excellent job with this book. I am a big Jackie Collins fan and I was not disappointed with "Thrill". I found the relationship w/Joey and Lara very touching. Eventually everyone got what they deserved. EXCELLENT READING!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Worthwhile trash? Review: I've read two Collins so far. The first one, Hollywood Husbands, didn't impress. This one seemed more interesting. Maybe it's addictive. Already I can see some repetition of themes between the two books, such as the plight of the teenage daughter. But this actually makes sense, this repetition of themes, because it seems to reflect the industry itself: samo samo, very closely prescribed roles and behaviors, from the creative, kooky director (Mick) to the drugged-out actor (Aiden) to the adulterous but successful director (Richard) and so on. Hollywood hasn't changed much over the years and so trite roles seem just right. Collins obviously knows of what she writes, and that's nice for the reader, to know that there is some authenticity behind the author's words. She paces this book real well, revealing a little of the main characters' backgrounds every so often, leaving Joey and Richard until the end almost, so there's always a new surprise around the corner. The culmination of the story leaves something to be desired: a "drop off the cliff," as it were, like Ms. Collins couldn't quite figure how to end everything. She just does it all at once. There are some other implausibilities, like Richard turning his life around (from homocide) to become a famous director, having learned the craft from a Mexican director who made him watch old movies. If you could learn to direct by watching old movies.....well, it just doesn't seem plausible. Anyway, on whole, this book will hold your interest. It's not high brow literature, as another good fella pointed out on this website, but it helps to pass the time and, who knows? Maybe we can even learn a little something. Diximus.
Rating: Summary: not the best Review: this book did keep my interest, but i didnt feel the same chemistry between the two main characters as i felt in jackie's other books, i dont think that Joey is a likable character, i kept going back and forth on liking him or not. not her best but i still enjoyed reading it.
Rating: Summary: unsatisfying, but still a page-turner Review: Thrill had all of Jackie Collins ingredients--sex, a fast-pace, beautiful movie stars, secrets, a stalker. But the book wasn't as thought out as Jackie Collins's other page-turners. Lara Ivory, a gorgeous movie star was being stalked by Alison Sewell--not giving away any plot here. It was established right away that Alison was keeping tabs on Lara, though Lara was unaware. And a female stalker was fresh! And readers are allowed into Alison's mind. It was rare learning what made a baddie tick. But that alone doesn't save the tome. While Lara was being harassed, she was busy making a movie. She didn't complain to her friends, or go to the police about being stalked. She was rather blase about it. In fact, she spent more time swooning over the dashing, enigmatic Joey Lorenzo. Her thoughts should have been preoccupied with a lunatic keeping her under surveillance. She even went on a nocturnal walk with Joey shortly after meeting him. For all she knew, Joey could have been her stalker! In addition to Lara's disregard for her safety, a child molester was allowed to go free. Hey, revenge is a prevalent them in Jackie Collins novels, so why was this allowed? Geez! The book was flawed, yet, easy to read, but disappointing. Usually, Jackie Collins writes strong women--women who can be role-models--not airheads. And the bad guys usually get their comeuppance. Big time. So, I'd wait for "Thrill" to come out in paper-back. It ain't worth the hard-cover price.
