Summary: Archetypes & Sacred Contracts
Review: A little less than a year ago I sent my father a letter letting him out of the contract we made when I came to this lifetime. Carolyn Myss writes in "Archetypes & Sacred Contracts" why this was so significant for my life growth. Obviously, one of the twelve roads we take in life, my ability to finally view my life in the eyes of review, that dictated that I have lived most of my life in a waking coma, viewing myself unfairly treated. Carolyn explains that as we come to this lifetime, we have made twelve significant contracts with people and/or situations that will give us steps to higher growth and they will add to our charism. Grandma was of Greek descent, and as a small boy she told me I had charism, Carolyn Myss explains the meaning of this word in this wonderful tape series, as we take each step closer to completing our contracts, we add to our charism. Archetypes & Sacred Contracts is yet another straw in the life that broke the camels back. As I take a closer look at my childhood, teenage and my adult conflicts, I am able to live out those contracts and view the lessons with a new set of eyes, eyes that will lend credence to charism. As we look at the archetypes of life, we find that they too have lessons, great lessons that can lead the way such as Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. Carolyn does a beautiful job using the tale of the Oz to show how it is representative of life in it's truest sense, as we move through our Chakras to our highest level of development. I am now awake, I look forward to each days lessons, and Carolyn Myss is one of the greatest teachers of the new age. Her ability to teach brings charism to each of those who reflect their lessons on the life they were born to live.....

Summary: A Myssian look at our spiritual journey
Review: Carolyn Myss fills six audio cassetts with witty conversation in dialogue with a live audience. Her objective is to show us a way to think about our spiritual journey by using Jungian archetypes as they appear in our "sacred contract." This helps us define and understand our heroic journey into consciousness on a symbolic level. Our goal is to discover our "charism," a Greek word used in the Catholic catechism meaning "special or unique grace." Dr. Myss implies that we each are given a special or unique grace by God (or perhaps the Holy Spirit). We incarnate with a "sacred contract" which tests who we are as we proceed in search of this charism. Our task in life as we choose to become conscious is to learn particular lessons which are delineated in our sacred contract. We have choice points along the way. If we do not choose to learn the lesson in our contract through acquiescence to our surrender points then we must forever keep meeting up with the same archetypes (i.e., universal life patterns) until we make the choices which allow us to learn the lesson and thus to move to higher levels of consciousness and understanding (i.e., our minds are transformed so they serve the spirit [our higher self] as we liberate ourselves from the tyranny of our tribal mind). Our journey helps us refine our charism which in turn refines us so we may continue to refine our charism to give something of value back to the world before we go home (i.e., place of origin of our soul). Dr. Myss illustrates her ideas using a Jungian archetypal approach to the telling and analysis of Dorothy in the Wizzard of Oz and Annie Sullivan's young blind and deaf charge. Dr. Myss focusses on the "universal" archetypes of child (orphan), prostitute, victim, and saboteur. The tapes are fun to listen to. The material is complex and deserves several sessions of listening and relistening for maximum understanding. A novice will find the material confusing as Dr. Myss's verbal style is circular and integrated rather than linear.

Summary: Too many distractions
Review: The information in these tapes is very valuable and as usual, Dr. Myss delivers her lecture with great depth and humor. Unfortunately, due to some unexplained shenanigens on the sidelines with a woman named Robin, Myss is quite distracted through the first 3 tapes. It appears that Robin is doing something to make the audience laugh and Dr. Myss keeps having to ask her to stop. I found this extremely irritating and distracting and I was very surprised that with all the lectures Myss delivers each year, they would decide to release tapes with this kind of thing taking up so much space. If you want some good tapes, try her lecture on The Fundamentals of Spiritual Alchemy. It is much better (I am a big fan and have many of her tapes) and there are no irritating distractions. Also on the archetypes tapes, Dr. Myss spends a great deal of time writing out diagrams which she does not explain for the benefit of her listening audience. The lecture itself is good if you have the patience to sift through all of the other parts that weren't well thought out or executed.
