Rating: Summary: Great Story Review: Cussler delivers another really good story and plot for his readers to enjoy. The hero, Dirk Pitt, is faced with a daunting challenge of locating several nuclear bombs that are smuggled into the United States. A highly nationalistic Japanese executive is behind the controls of what could be the biggest terrorist plot in U.S. history. Pitt, Giordino along with a few other intelligence personnel, must also locate this ruthless tycoon's operating center and destroy it before it's too late. Very intense story though Cussler could have done without using racial epithets to describe the Japanese people. I was not really bothered by it initially until our great hero, Dirk Pitt and his sidekick, Al Giordino, began using it also.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely awesome! Another classic Cussler! Review: Dragon is absolutely brilliant. Definitely one of Clive Cussler`s best novels, it charges along at breakneck pace with plenty of suspense and amusement along the way. Our hero Dirk Pitt battles a ruthless Japanese nationalist fanatic(did this novel inspire Tom Clancy`s Debt of Honour?!) who intends to rid the world of chaotic, undisciplined societies and dominate with an economic Japanese master race. And he has, of course, his own robot army to do this, with automated factory! A top villian, explosive action in every sense of the word, Dirk bedding women again and Clive Cussler making a cameo appearance in a classic car race. Don`t forget to add the dry cool wit! Action, suspense, lunacy, fun, what more could you want? BUY THIS BOOK NOW AND I GUARANTEE YOU WON¬T WANT TO PUT IT DOWN! Nick Forbes-Warren
Rating: Summary: James Bond, Buck Rogers & Jacques Cousteau all in one person Review: Either you'll love the non-stop action, or you'll laugh at the unlikely chain-of-events that lead to the book's climax. Dirk Pitt, who's been shot more times than a Texas Yield sign, takes on the evil Japanese Empire as they smuggle atomic bombs into America via imported cars. Oddly enough, the trillions of dollars spent on national defense can't stop a bunch of missiles cruising down Route 66 at 55 mph. This book panders to the anti-Japanese sentiment of the early nineties, which severely dates it, and makes it that much less believable. Cussler's Pitt novels have always been over-the-top in their villians, heroes and story plots, but this one will virtually assault your credulity sensors. I usually enjoy the roller coaster ride, but not this time.
Rating: Summary: What got me started Review: First off, let me say that I owe a lot to this book. It got me started on Clive Cussler, but, more importantly, it is the book that really got me on the path to being a writer. After reading it, I just knew that writing was what I wanted to do. Looking back on this book, over ten years later, it doesn't hold the mystique it did back then. Still, this is a classic Dirk Pitt adventure story, with all the trimmings. The action is tense, the dialog witty, and the overall feel is that of a cozy novel. Cussler's strength lies in his ability to tie seemingly unrelated events together. For instance, the idea of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki going wrong leading to current-day events. It's just interesting how he does it. Dragon's plot is a bit far-fetched. The idea of someone in Japan wanting to wipe out American civilization seems absurd today. Still, written in the wake of cool relations between us and the Japanese, it rings true, if still a bit hard to believe. If you like this sort of novel, the action-oriented mystery, then you will absolutely love this book. Cussler writes with an authoritative hand, and, because of him, I found what I really wanted to do with my life. Thanks, Clive.
Rating: Summary: A phenomenal novel absolutely full of excitement! Review: In 1945, Two U.S. bombers took off for Japan with atomic bombs, but only one got through. Now, in 1993, Dirk Pitt and the american government find that Japan has developed a plan to destroy the western countries, called the Kaiten Project. Through this project, Japanese fanatics have hidden over a hundred nuclear bombs in the powerful western countries. And if their economical demands aren't met, they will have no choice but to detonate them... This book was Clive Cussler at his finest. The whole novel was very well thought out, and absolutely loaded with action. Anyone who enjoys reading will enjoy Dragon!
