Rating: Summary: intuitively drawn to "Intuitive Healing" Review: I started reading this book recently because I was having trouble dealing with my energy, emotions, and other people's energies. As an empathetic sponge, I would unknowingly absorb any surrounding energy, positive or negative, which resulted in a lot of bodily stress.
I thought having this stress in my body was normal because I didn't understand it, nor did I question it until a perceptive friend brought it to my attention. Now, I am taking steps to correct my way of processing energy before it becomes problematic.
After applying some of the exercises and suggestions, I find that this book is very effectively teaching me how to recognize and work with my own energy. Orloff suggests, "Be observant of energy, not overly focused on it" and "If you are mindful of your body's subtle energy and become accountable for it, your health will improve." (p. 35) Meaning, I don't have to be a passive victim of stress; I have the power to change my situation, once I am aware and take responsibility (as opposed to assigning blame or making excuses). It's about being proactive for my own issues--very empowering stuff!
While some of this might sound like simple common sense, Orloff goes into great detail in explaining how thoughts, energy, and beliefs affect the body. Sure, one can gloss over the details and get right to the 5 steps, however, I think it's very important to understand the process so that the steps make sense. The 5-step method can address just about any given difficult situation one may encounter. I like how the 5 steps are repeated in a variety of contexts throughout the book, the repetition drills it into memory.
The new comfort and peace I feel with myself now was unexpected, and through this work, I am finally learning to trust my intuition. This book has been and still is an outstanding catalyst for my personal growth. Thank you for writing such a profoundly helpful book, Dr. Orloff!
Rating: Summary: Insightful, inspirational, instructional, life-enhancing. Review: In Dr. Judith Orloff's Guide To Intuitive Healing: Five Steps To Physical, Emotional, And Sexual Wellness, Dr. Judith Orloff (Board-certified psychiatrist and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at UCLA) integrates intuition and classical forms of Western medicine. She explains that we are keepers of innate intuitive intelligence so powerful that it can prevent illness, relieve anxiety and depression, enhance sexuality, help us choose the appropriate doctor, and even accelerate the healing process. Dr. Orloff describes how to use these intuitive gifts everyday to clarify spiritual beliefs, choose relationships, find a fulfilling career, learn how to use remote viewing to "read" people, and to understand and effective use dreams. Dr. Orloff also maintains that sex is not simply a physical act, but it is an intuitive path as well. Through focusing on both the physical and the energetic aspects of self we can sharpen intuitions through receptivity to the erotic forces of life and nature, awakening to full-bodies, heart-based human sexuality. Dr. Judith Orloff's Guide To Intuitive Healing is highly rewarding, insightful, inspirational, instructional, thought-provoking, quality of life-enhancing reading.
Rating: Summary: Self-transformation through intuition Review: Reading Judith Orloff's book provided me with a clearer understanding and experience of the meaning and uses of intuition. I have been a self-confessed skeptic when it came to topics such as spirituality, intuition etc. However, reading this book helped me to tie in my own intuitive and spiritual experiences in ways I had never before understood. Judith's five steps to intuitive development gave me a useful and practical framework that took the subject of intuition from something that was mystical or abstract to a truly down to earth day and practical level. I particularly liked Dr. Orloff's treatment of sexuality because it gave me a greater appreciation of the varied experiences that were possible. My understanding of my own sexuality was expanded as a result of reading what Dr. Orloff had to say about this topic. The relationship of nature and spirituality to sexual experience has been eye-opening. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in healing because this book delievers what it promises.
Rating: Summary: The Heart of the Matter Review: The Heart of the Matter
Dr. Orloff reinforces the importance of using intuition as a guide through life. She speaks from the heart and uses examples from her own practice, and illustrates with stories of her own healing journey.
Excellent for someone who has followed a strictly orthodox path, as well as for those who are more open to unconventional forms of healing. Her techniques for the layperson in tuning in to parts of the body and spirit are easy to follow. She reinforces the fact that the body knows what it needs to make it well, and we can access that knowledge and follow it's guidance back to health. Of most interest to me are the parts about becoming more in touch with our intuition, i.e. through remote viewing, and realizing aches and pains are the body's way of communicating a message.
Dr. Orloff is bridging the gap between orthodox and non-orthodox medicine and this should be borne in mind when reading that she recommends allopathic drugs for certain medical conditions, for every disease can be cured by natural means, as the universe is a divine tapestry containing all the hidden pathways to wholeness. I would personally be cautious about going to a physician for a work up, as having a name put on a disease usually ensures the patient buys into the fear of the illness, thus strengthening the momentum of the disease process. The body's expression of any disease is simply that, the symptoms we see and feel in the body are always the effect, and to solve the problem the cause has to be addressed within the psyche, emotions, or possibly from another life.
I realize my way of thinking is unconventional and most readers will probably be comforted by her mainstream reassurance of sometimes following a more conventional route. Dr. Orloff is a gentle, but firm spirit, whose many years of spiritual seeking are reflected here for all to read.
Rating: Summary: Insightful Guidance Review: This is an insightful resource book for those who are either beginners or well on the path to understanding how to use intuition in every area of their lives. Filled with exercises, questions to ponder, tips and case histories of her patients, this book is written in an easy conversational style. Dr. Judith Orloff's Guide to Intuitive Healing has made it okay for us to trust our "inner voice" again. We each have this inner guidance connected to our spirituality within us. Dr. Orloff shows us how to use this "voice" to fully connect with our love ones, understand our doctors and our healing and even how to avoid absorbing other people's negative energy. I have highly recommended this book to my friends!
