Summary: Ain't This Book the Best!!!
Review: I've read quite a few of Phillip's books. They're all wonderful, and she's one of my favorite authors. I found this
story excellent. Her books are just so amazing.

A woman returns to Parrish, Mississippi after some
trouble. At first she isn't welcome, but eventually she finds her place.

Wonderful book!!! I plan to read all of SEP's books.
I think she's of the best writers. I give this book my highest
rating of 5 stars:)

Summary: The Best Romance Novel I Ever Read
Review: I've never much liked this genre of fiction but this book has definetly made me change my mind about romance novels. I have to say it is one of the best things i ever read out of many classics. I now look forward to reading the rest of Miss Phillips novels. Although it's hard not to i wont give away the ending.

Summary: Thrilling romance with so many funny scenes & lines
Review: Any book that starts off each chapter with one liners from my favorite Georgette Heyer's regencies will dispell my misgivings at the offset. Let me not pretend to be too highbrow -I loved this book. Not a careful purchase, but stacked onto my library pile as a last minute addition with that sangfroid of knowing if it was a bore it would just go back next trip, no pressure... and I was predisposed to dislike it, on account of "bitchy" heroine blurb on back cover.
Summation: Improbably named Sugar Beth must return to her hometown to reclaim her inheritance.
Unfortunately she doesn't have a whole lot of friends left in the town she once dominated. And she doesn't have a whole lot of success to ride back in on. Three failed marriages behind her and the last marking her as an Anna Nicole Smith type gold digger give her a lot to be ashamed of.
What is likeable about her character is the sheer nerve with which she carries all off. I would hope I would have similar backbone, & personal honour. In a good little pointer, SB explains it as `personal power' when having a discussion with her estranged niece.

Particularly appealing is the character the author has created in Sugar Beth. OK THE NAME!!! It's bad, but you move beyond it.
I approached this book with extreme caution thinking I was going to hate the main character but in fact she shows more tolerance and humility than the people she victimized.
I loved the descriptions of small town life, and this book made it so real for me, although I have no familiarity or experience with the area's in which it is set.
There is soaring romance, and I was crying so many times as I read this book. What moved me was not some overly dramatic this person dies blah blah. Instead it was really well written scenes of the sort of day-to-day pathos everyone has to endure in their lives. The other thing is: It's Very Funny.
WARNING: YOU WILL LAUGH it's not a sad book; it's a joyful read, and I felt thrilled, happy & completed, when I completed it.

Summary: SEP is a master storyteller...
Review: Having read just about every book published by Susan Elizabeth Phillips, I couldn't wait to get my hands on her newest offering, AIN'T SHE SWEET. I must admit I was expecting more of a light-hearted comedy reminiscent of the humor found in her "Chicago Stars" books. But what I did find was a powerful redemption tale that dealt with the darker side of the human psyche. The book brought to mind another "redemption tale" of SEP's, DREAM A LITTLE DREAM. Like many readers who start out reading AIN'T SHE SWEET, I had the idea in the back of my mind that the book's heroine was way past deserving forgiveness and thought to myself, "Ms. Phillips, there's no way you are going to make me like Sugar Beth!". However, in the SEP's world no character is beyond hope and by the end of the book, I found myself truly fulfilled to learn that bad starts can lead to happy endings and that bad girls can do good.

Summary: My favorite book this summer!!
Review: I just finshed the audio version of this book, and I have to say it is one of the best books Philips has ever written. I laughed so hard I cried, and I cried at times too.

Sugarbeth is not quite what she appears to be, and I will not spoil the book for any new reader by saying much about the plot, but Sugarbeth truly is a "woman for the ages." There is a lot of wisdon buried in the pages of this book, and Philips does not cheat her readers by ending the story too soon, or taking the easy way out.

I spend a lot of time and money on books, in particular audio books which cost a lot more than a paperback, and I appreciate an author who gives me 110%. That is rare today when a lot of best selling authors pump out books by the dozen and feed us recycled junk in order to get us to buy another book. That is not true with Philips, and this book is a great example of the writings of an author who loves her audience and her characters.

Summary: S.E.P.'s best book since It Had to Be You!
Review: I loved this book! The heroine is the sort of women 99% of people on the planet love to hate: Rich, beautiful, priveledged, arrogant, mean, irresponsible, and heartless. So SEP had a real challenge in making us care about this woman. The author doesn't take the easy way out.... Sugar Beth really IS all those vile things, but after about 50 pages or so, you are completely rooting for her. SEP manages to explain how Sugar Beth got the way she is, and the reader can not help but root for her.

The hero is also very unique. No more sports heros.... SEP has given us a somewhat effeminate but devastatingly attractive hero. Again, a real challenge to make a guy who waltzes around in a smoking jacket seem manly, but she pulls it off.

I'm often disappointed in SEP books when she tries too hard to do zany, madcap humor (Heaven Texas, First Lady, etc.) Sometimes it falls flat for me and I never really care about the characters or identify with them. But she is in fine form with this book.... it had wonderful humor but is rich with emotion at the same time.

Summary: Ain't She Sweet
Review: I loved this book! It described small towns in the South to a "T". I have already told all my book loving friends to go out and buy this book. This is the first book that I have read of Susan Elizabeth Phillips but it will not be the last.

Summary: The BEST Story I've read in a long time
Review: I'm a big SEP fan because she writes funny, quirky characters who aren't your run-of-the-mill romance novel characters and she writes the absolute best dialogue I've ever read.

This book is phenomenal. I could not put it down. Some parts had me laughing out loud and others just made me want to cry. Sugar Beth was a spiteful, mean-spirited girl in her youth, most especially to Winnie, but SEP delves so deeply into Sugar Beth's psyche that you understand why she acted the way she did. Her motivations are very clear. The Sugar Beth we meet at the beginning of the book has grown up and taken her fair share of lumps and she ends up taking several more before the book is through. But she doesn't let any of it break her spirit.

I'm a sucker for a heroine who's a wise ass and a hero who can throw it right back at her and that's Sugar Beth and Colin. They are just so funny together, yet touching at the same time. The kind hero and heroine that stay with you long after you've finished reading the book.

This is a wonderful story. I wish I could have given it more stars.

Summary: Ahhh, Take Me Away
Review: Ms. Phillips has created a delightful, heartwarming story of the prodigal daughter. You will be swept away as you entered in the world of these fabulous actresses (and actors). Get your favorite beverage, pull up a comfortable chair and get taken away in Ain't She Sweet. You'll feel all her emotions.

If you're looking for a different and exciting novel, read LUST OF THE FLESH by Beverly Rolyat. A story about district attorney, Nick Allapapalaus, who finds himself caught up in a web of lust, deceit, mystery, suspense, betrayal, murder and sex galore. Is he really the biological father of his ex-wife's promiscuous teenage daughter's infant son? Or has he been set up? A compelling, riveting, engaging, pageturning novel. Enjoy!
