Summary: The Grand Sophy
Review: I have just found Georgette Heyer, and am so glad I have. I picked this book by chance while looking for something to read on vacation. I am now trying to decide which book I will try next.

The heroine of this book is amazing, nothing flusters her. She enters situations with almost no qualms that send her male cousins running at times. Her interactions with the characters whom she knows dislike her, as well as those that don't truly know her are hilarious. The dialog is worth reading again and again, as you will find sublties missed the first go round. Her efforts to assist her cousins on their way to happiness also prove quite entertaining.

This excellent book is one I will definately read again, and again, and again...

Summary: Incredible
Review: I have to say I love this book. It is fun, a little bit ridiculous, slightly unbelieveable, and a great read. After I read it all I wanted to do was read it again, and all my sister could say was, "SHE SHOT HIM!" *you will understand if you read the book*
This book has an incredible female protangonist. She doesn't whine, she isn't annoying, and she can depend completely on herself. This book is a nice relief from the overly dependent woman. A must read for every Georgette Heyer lover, and for those who have never read anything by her, this is a great place to start.

Summary: My favorite romance of all time . . .
Review: I loved this book so much I named one of my own characters (Sophie Dempsey) after the heroine. Loved the huge cast, the interlocking plots, and the general good humor of it all. Second best romance: The Talisman Ring. Heyer shows us all how to do romance right.

Summary: A Heroine of No Sensibility
Review: In general, I am not a great fan of Amazonian heroines, but I love Heyer, and I thought Sophy was 'vastly entertaining'. I especially enjoy the scene with the moneylender--such a turn about of the usually-menaced heroine motif!

Summary: Awesome
Review: May I just say "Wow."

I bow down to this goddess of dialog. Seriously. The word play in this book makes me feel all warm and fuzzy and inspired. It contains arguments that convince the reader along with the other characters, it contains conversations that make your head spin with sheer verbosity and life.

I enjoy most of Georgette Heyer's books, but I think I liked this best of all. Sophy is officially my favorite heroine EVER. Grand seems like a small word to describe her. And it wasn't one of those annoying books where the author seems to think that stating the person is grand multiple times counts for making her grand. No, the things this girl did, calmly and believably, were so freaking cool.

I was sorry to see it end. And I will remember it and re-read it forever.

Summary: Fun Read
Review: The Grand Sophy is a wonderful, witty Regency romance. Sophy is a great character: intelligent, humorous, full of spirit, life and a sense of adventure. Sent to London to stay with her aunt and cousins so they can take care of her, it isn't long, however before Sophy sees how much they need her. Charles is about marry the wrong woman, his sister, Cecilia is caught
up with an unsuitable poet, and younger brother Hubert is in trouble financially. Sophy soon takes matters into her own hands and straightens everything and everyone out, no matter how unconventional her methods. The ending felt a bit rushed to me and I would have liked a bit more romance between Charles and Sophy, but he is a good match for her. I look forward to reading more of Georgette Heyer's romances.

Summary: One of Heyer's best
Review: The Grand Sophy is my favorite of Heyer's many wonderful Regency romances. Sophy is an amazing character - spirited, quick-thinking, and well able to handle anything life throws at her. All the characters in this book are delightful, but Sophy is really something special. Heyer is at the top of her form, both in terms of period detail and exquisitely humorous plot. Don't miss this one!

Summary: Weird mix
Review: This book is part Jane Austen, part Mary Poppins and part Pippi Longstocking. Strange combination but volatile in its brilliance. I picked this book up after hearing the author's name bandied about for a while as one of the most awesome regency writers of all time. I wasn't disappointed.

If you're looking for a 'hot' romance then you might want to pass this one by but if you read romance for the 'romance' of it all then you are sure to enjoy this one.

As I read this book I noticed most that Ms. Heyer had a lot of balls in the air at any given point. I thought a couple of times that she was going to forget one, that she had forgotten one, but she hadn't. In the end there were no dangling threads left, well, dangling.

The ending felt slightly rushed to me but I was still left with a pleasant feeling and a soft spot in my heart for the hero and heroine. I actually think that to have done more with it would have been to take away from the characters and their personalities so, honestly, I don't know that I would have her change it if I could. Mostly, it was different and it was special.

This was my first Georgette Heyer but I can assure you it won't be my last.

Summary: A MASTERPIECE!!!
Review: This is probably my favorite Heyer. Sophy steals the show with her masterful personality and ingenious, if unconventional, schemes to "rescue" her cousins from their various entanglements. With a dreamy poet, a villainous money-lender (who turns out to be a mere "dead bore"!),and a tiresome know-it-all bluestocking (who is REALLY a dead bore!), this story is anything BUT a dead bore! The plot moves swiftly from one outrageous episode to the next, with hilarious dialogue and unexpected turns along the way. A must read!!!

Summary: By all that's wonderful, it's the Grand Sophy!
Review: This was my first introduction to the world of Georgette Heyer and what an introduction it was. I still laugh to this day at Sophy's delightful unconventionality and at the way her poor bewildered cousins learn to deal with her. A wonderful, wonderful book with great period detail and a light-hearted touch that makes it refreshing and non-sentimental at the same time. Read it. I'll not spoil the enchantment for you but beware...Sophy (and in consequence Heyer herself) is very addictive. You might just find yourself craving more.
