Summary: amazing
Review: Malcolm X is an insightful book about the life of one of the most important figures in the history of the united states. the book features the life of malcolm x from his birth, to his life as a hustler in the streets of harlem, to his time as an activist of the so called "black muslims", to when he reforms his views and has his life being threatened.
Malcolm X's book is inspiring and well worth the read. as you go through his life you get a first hand look at the reason malcolm stood up for the things that he did, and you also see the compassion and lighter side of someone who was so seriously portraid. you get an individual look at a martyr who stood for a cause, you read about his deeds, his sins, his moments in glory and his moments when he was down and out. the one thing that i really got from this book was how malcolm was shown in the book. his speeches are beautifully writin and although he rants and his points are repeated throughout the book, they always come in new forms and are origional throughout.
i highly recommend book for people who enjoy reading about real life situations and who enjoy reading about intelligence action

Summary: An unparalleled autobiography
Review: The Autobiography of Malcolm X belongs on the short-list of any compilations of best biographies/autobiographies for two reasons. First, the fact that among all the public figures that American history has to offer, Malcolm is undoubtedly one of the most complex. Secondly, Alex Haley does an amazing job of transporting the reader into Malcolm's thoughts and feelings. Praise of this book is not simply praise of the subject; this is also a powerful literary work and a sharp piece of history.

Autobiography is a classic American tale of one of the most misunderstood figures in American history. Malcolm has been and is viewed as everything from an evil racist hate-monger to the champion of modern day militant pro-Black radicals. What he was, in reality, was a remarkably intelligent and charismatic leader who reflected the ills of the society around him, changed throughout his life, and gradually evolved from ignorance to anger to enlightenment. Autobiography should be required reading for anyone who claims to have an opinion on Malcolm.

My strong recommendation is not simply praise for Malcolm; certainly it would be possible to write an uninteresting book on a compelling figure. My recommendation for this particular biography comes for the power and precision of Alex Haley's writing. Haley puts us in Malcolm's schoolroom, amongst the petty criminals of his youth, in the penitentiary, amongst the militants of the Nation of Islam, and in Mecca and Africa, where he underwent his final transformation. We see what Malcolm sees, and we feel what Malcolm feels. This is a critically important element in the success of this amazing biography. Malcolm started as an empty vessel into which the American Black experience was poured - with all of the racism and violence that this implies - and Malcolm reflected his experiences in his convictions and deeds. In that Haley brings the reader face to face with Malcolm's experiences we understand how and why Malcolm became the person that he became; he truly was a mirror to American society.

The great tragedy is that Malcolm's rift with the Nation of Islam brought resulted in his early death, just at the time that he was realizing his true purpose. Commenting on his experience in Mecca, shortly before his assassination, Malcolm comments "I have never before seen sincere and true brotherhood practiced by all colors together, irrespective of their color." In this statement, and others, he acknowledges that his former view on race was merely a reflection of the American racism which surrounded him, and these are the views that he had internalized.

I'm actually not sure whether to call this book a biography or an autobiography. It's a purely first-person tale, but as a literary work Haley shines. Either way, the mark of a great autobiography/biography is that it allows you to understand the subject - his or her thoughts and motives. This is a daunting task for a subject as complex as Malcolm, and this book brings it off brilliantly. Very highly recommended.

Summary: Brilliant!!! Enlightening!!! Uplifting!!! A True Classic!!!
Review: The Autobiography of Malcolm X remains the cornerstone for most libraries in African-American homes. Haley's brilliant conveyance of the details of Malcolm's life is a true work of art. The reader travels back into Malcolm's past, exploring his family history and his earliest views of life and society as a whole. Step by step we are exposed to the experiences that would serve as the foundation to the brilliance that would personify in this great leader. This book has elevated the conscienceness of many Black people, not only in the U.S., but around the world. Additionally, reading such literature will enable caucasian people to better understand Malcolm X and easily conclude that his message was not of hate, but of self-improvement, self-pride and self-motivation, as well as anti-oppression, anti-degradation and anti-exploitation. Malcolm X remains an icon within the Black community, and this book plays a large part in that reverence. I cannot recommend it higher! Finally, I suggest reading Andrew Claude Clegg's "The Original Man" along with The Autobiography of Malcolm X. It will grant further insight into his relationship with Elijah Muhammad and some of the inner-workings of the Nation of Islam.

Summary: A great book
Review: This book is a great book by a great man, and is a haunting reminder of the African-American experience in particular, and the Black experience in general.

I highly recommend "Retake Your Fame," by Aylmer von Fleischer as well as "The Destruction of Black Civilization," by Chancellor.

These books helps us understand the height from which Blacks have fallen and the reason why.

Summary: One Of The Greatest Books Ever Written!
Review: This book is a historical, sociological, psychological, theological, political, cultural, and biographical treasure! Alex Haley, together with the assistance of Malcolm X, put ink to paper and brought one of the greatest leaders who ever lived to life in book form. This is extremely important because it allows people --no matter how far removed by time and space-- to get a deep understanding of a complex man facing complex situations in difficult times. "The Autobiography Of Malcolm X" traces Malcolm's life from his early days in the midwest as Malcolm Little, to his street running days on the East Coast as "Detroit Red," to his time in prison and his subsequent growth through Islam into the great leader known as Malcolm X, to his eventual cowardly murder. The book is so well written that it's extremely hard to put down once picked up! The story of Malcolm X is a powerfully gripping one! Throughout Malcolm faces one adverse situation after another: The murder of his father, a strained family life, the break-up of his family, struggling with systemic racism, his descent into criminal life, prison time, fighting against America's apartheid system after joining the Nation of Islam, dealing with jealousy inside the Nation, his eventual split with Elijah Muhammad and the Nation of Islam, government harassment, and finally his murder by dogs. This book is truly a great piece of work, going into the very soul of Malcolm! His story simply couldn't have been told any better. "The Autobiography Of Malcolm X" should be required reading in all American secondary schools, and institutions of higher learning.

Summary: One of my favorite books of all-time
Review: This is a must-read for everyone (black or white) 'cuz it changed my life completely since I seen the movie, watch documentaries about him and then learn more about him.

As you know, Malcolm X is one of my heroes of all-time even though he had a powerful message since Martin Luther King did "I Have A Dream" speech is 1963. This is sumthin u shouldn't hate about or u think is racist enuff or sumthin. I don't call it by that. I call a more mature book that has the basic details that what's going in our community and the culture we live in today.

Many of us who are sacrificing and showing mercy among ourselves to this book or the man behind himself must read this book. This is really a study guide to talk about our community. Spike Lee does a good job on this movie he did from the book. And I thank God he'll live and learn 2 this day.

R.I.P. Malcolm X your legacy lives on between us.

Summary: Olympia of the Malcolmius!
Review: Thoroughly readable account of life of Malcolm X, as told by his close friend Bill Cosby. This is one of the most enjoyable reads I've ever had the pleasure to have. So much of it is quotable. It really gives you the history for a long time. Malcolm did acid in a park with his aunty and her friend and they later had relations, is the the part that has be given the most scrutiny, but forget that indecency and pay attention to the life of a great man that isn't missed enough. Four stars from me.
