Rating: Summary: An Utterly Gorgeous Novel.. Review: I read this and this is one of the very few books that has ever made me cry. I have come to feel for Armand as much as I do any of the other characters in this series. I think out of all of them, he's had it the hardest.Overall, this is a gorgeous book. The descriptions are amazing, as if you are right in the heart of Venice. The love affair between Armand and Marius was beautiful and hearttrending as well. A beautiful read.
Rating: Summary: Ugh. A turnoff for this hardcore Rice fan Review: I was eager for an in-depth examination of The Vampire Armand but the sexuality was deeply disturbing and downright repulsive. Marias' obsession with the child Armand is pedophilic and just plain gross. Ruined the book for me.
Rating: Summary: SOAK UP THE CONFLICT Review: If you've ever had that aching variety of conflict about GOD- if you've ever been a Christian, a Buddhist, a New Age Revolutionary and struggled with the representation of belief and spirit- then this is a book you can sink your soul into.
Now, I first read this book when I was a bit of a child, full of sexuality, myself. This is the best time of life to read this book. Of course, if these circumstances have become, shall we say, out of your control- just be prepared for that youthful intensity of yearning. The unreasonable desire. The temper tantrums. The highs and lows of Romance. I should mention, though, if you are threatened by unconventional relationships (i.e. offended by homosexuality) I might recommend nudging the boundaries of your acceptance by picking up a copy of Anne Rice's "Belinda"- and then opening your heart to a hard hit from Christopher Rice's "A Density of Soul's"- and then you can come back and take a crack at the Vampire Chronicles.
Finally, to the story. It is best read as a follow-up to the other Chronicles. Only then can you really feel this boy emerge. Only then can his entrance be ultimately suprising- ultimately defying!
Anne Rice is captivating. Her worlds can be overpowering... for me, a great vacation from the mundane. The language is a bit feverish at parts. It might leave you in a weakened state. Also, geographically speaking, a great trip to Italy- and if you become enchanted with Italian life- make sure to extend your stay into "Blood & Gold" and "Pandora".
Rating: Summary: Very Entertaining, I have to Say! Review: Ok, let me say one thing. I have read some of the reviews that people wrote and I am disgusted at what they say about this novel. Honestly, the reader should know by now!
THis is Anne Rice and she writes about things that sometimes are meant to shock and stir the mind and thoughts process. I have to say that I did not find this book to be at all gross or sick as some people say that it is. Actually I find that I enjoy reading about the realationship between Armand and Marius. I wanted for them to stay together. Anyone who reads this will probably say that I have no morals becasue of that. Seriously, people, I am very sorry, but what is there to be so shocked about?
Our ancestors, the ancient Romans and Greeks all did this kind of thing on a daily basis, but suddenly it was considered a mortal sin and everyone shut their ears and eyes to that kind of thing. They treat it as if it was murder or something worse. In case you haven't noticed, Marius Romanus was a *roman*.
Honestly, grow up and open your mind to learn from the world around you. If you are so easily shocked, you must be a virgin to literature and you need to read and get out more. I am not saying that it's a must to do what Armand and MArius did together, but it adds a flavor to the writing.
Even for the most seemingly shocked reader, I know that deep down they enjoyed the play between Marius and Armand, even if it was just a little. They can deny it all they want and cover it up with moral crap, but I know that something must have been stirred. Maybe that is why they seem to dislike the book so much, because they don't like the little shiver they got from reading it. Or maybe they are just into typical, vanilla relatioships where everything is always the same. I know that I'm not.
I want to read something that is a little unusual, and I got it in the form of this novel. Armand is a sexy character, and let me remind the reader that he *enjoys* what Marius does to him. Even when Marius punishes him in that one hot scene, he loves it in the end and even says that he wants more.
If he hated when MArius kissed him and everything, if he felt disgusted with the vampire, THEN I wouldn't like the sexy scenes that much, though I would still think them interesting and perhaps just a little steamy.
How could Armand not like MArius? The vampire saved him, showed him kindness, fed him, gave him expensive clothes, let him explore life and all that humanity had to offer, and loved him on top of that. I think that this novel was wonderful, a plain delightful read and I recomend it to anyone who wants to explore human thoughts and feelings.
Rating: Summary: it's good, get over it Review: this book is good,

don't read it because you think it'll make you "cool"
it won't
Rating: Summary: Boring and I am not that open minded... Review: Well, I loved Interview with a vampire, vampire Lestat, queen of the damned, the tale of the body thief and Memnoch the Devil. Some reviewers felt that after the tale of the body thief Anne Rice started to lose her touch. I disagree, I believe all those books I mentioned were excellent. However, I couldn't finish the disgusting crap of a book "Vampire Armand". It was soooo boring. I actually enjoyed when Anne Rice would get into her historical lessons in previous books, so its not because this book was over discriptive that I hated it. Where do I start? Well I was pleasantly suprised that Armand was actually Ukrainian and was stolen into slavery from somewhere around Kiev. (me being born in Ukraine and having one of the character's in great Anne Rice's books was very pleasant, plus this was true historically that kids and women were stolen into slavery from ukraine at some point) I always kinda closed my eyes and didn't mind to the homosexuality or bisexuality in her previous books. I think I am an opened minded person and I felt that this is a woman writing perhaps thats why she admires a man as a sexual objext to that extent. I still felt that the story and the characters were amazing in her previous material. This book was not only boring (story), but also very gay. As dumb as I may sound saying that:(. It sounded like a gay man's fantasy, although I wouldn't know what a typical gay male feels, so I am sorry if I offend anyone by saying this(I would think though its a pretty bad fantasy for anyone, whether you are gay or not). Perhaps I am being shallow and stereotyping. I just couldn't read about the sexual relationship of a young thin fragile boy and an older man. Besides that I was ok with reading about Lestat's attraction to David in previous books. I thought it was extremely boring and not to mention disgusting at times. Considering that Armand was one of my favorite characters to begin with, I was looking forward to this book. Unfortunately I couldn't finish it. Getting through the nasty parts would be ok if the story was good. Unfortunately the story was boring and Armand a disapoitment as a character. I do not recommend this book at all. Although it seems that a lot of people liked, so I suggest reading some other reviews. I am giving it 2 stars only because it still resembles Anne Rice and I didn't care about the overuse of the word velvet lol
