Rating: Summary: A worthwhile signpost Review:
Wayne Dyer's writing, in my view, is for the ordinary mortal, not the collector of esoteric philosphies. What the rest of us want to know is what we can DO to live our lives more powerfully and authentically. "The Power of Intention" does just this, focussing on a concept that has had little attention so far from other authors. I am not into Castenada, or the Kaballah, but would suggest that the source is Universal. Nice to have it put in my kind of language.
For the previous reviewer, it is well to remember what a sage once said: that what we see as fault in others is actually a reflection of ourselves. A pity to miss out on any opportunity to learn.
Rating: Summary: Praise for the Power of Intention Review: Another great book by Dr. Dyer. He is a very passionate persuader. I was watching Dr. Dyer on PBS and his message sounded so simple and sincere: determination as energy, not something you do, but something you are. Lots of platitudes but never vague, The Power of Intention has inspired me to get going with my life; To overcome negative thoughts and feelings, to let go of erroneous thinking and seeing. This is also a feel good and warm book. After you read it, you will feel uplifted for a while and if you are like me, you will strive to be a nicer and more sincere person. As the father of some very active young children, I found myself searching for a way to teach the Power of Intention to them. I knew that they could benefit greatly from Dr. Dyers material, and I was right. I read a book by Matt Pasquinilli called The Child Whisperer a couple of years ago and I got it off the shelf and reread it after reading The Power of Intention. Although the two books are very different in scope and style, I found that they compliment each other nicely. The Child Whisperer is a step by step guide to employing concepts like the Power of Intention with children.
Rating: Summary: Dyer Is Confused Review: As I have indicated before, I have read and enjoyed numerous Dr. Dyer titles. However, I do feel that in this book and the previous There's a Spiritual Solution to Every Problem, Dr. Dyer has become increasingly vague and unsure of what he wants to say. When he attempts to talk about "higher energy", he never really comes to the point, or how it might be applied to our lives. I really think he is confused. And the sources he cites, such as Hawkins and Hunt, are spurious at best. My advice is to stick with Your Sacred Self and You'll See It When You Believe It.
Rating: Summary: Focus on the best then let go Review: Dr. Dyer expalins the art of manifestation in this easy to read book. I have read these theories before in many metaphysical books but this book says it in a way that you can put into practise. I recommend Optimal Thinking: How To Be Your Best Self to learn how to make the most of everything within your control.
Rating: Summary: More like The Power of Deception Review: Dyer talks about supressing ego and yet his blankets this book. I bought the "whole enchalada" via PBS fund raiser. Thank God for tax deductitions. What turned me off the most was his treatment of the poor. It is as if because they haven't "connected to" the "source" they were responsible for their own situation. I wish he would go to the Sudan, or maybe the 150,000 lives lost in Asia is because they couldn't manifest themselves from disaster. This book is so bad.It has no scientific or spiritual basis to it. It is Dyer's way of manifesting his own wealth. Do not waste your time or $.
Rating: Summary: Most excellent. Review: I bought this book after seeing Dr. Dyer's boost for public broadcasting. I woke up one Sunday morning, put on the TV and there he was trying to raise money for those airwaves. I've always been a big fan of NPR and public TV so I gave it a chance and listened for 15 minutes or so. I was amazed at how much sense he made. When I got the book I was not disappointed. It is so "commonsensical" that I was almost shaking my head saying to myself "I already knew that" when I was finished. The book was almost like the slap I needed to remind myself. He taps into all of our souls...all of our innate knowledge. It is a very good book and one that will benefit those who have become "disconnected" as well as those who may have just forgotten what we already know deep inside us, and ones who already "remember". I read it in a week only because I was busy at work, otherwise I think I would have devoured it in 2-3 days. It is a welcome addition to my home and heart and its lessons won't soon be forgotten. I've already shared it with many friends as I feel that it is one of those "life lessons" manuals--everyone should read it.
Rating: Summary: Teaching us to be smart Review: I find that Dyer's work has had a huge impact on how I think and feel and really how I behave as I walk this earth. When I bought this title I also bought the recommended title, The Emotional Intelligence Quickbook. I'd love for Dr. Dyer to write about this concept. It is AMAZING and really related well to his work.
Rating: Summary: Can you say Kabbalah? Review: I give him 1 star for nerve. The PBS special for this book was appalling, somehow he managed to credit Carlos Casteneda, but neglected to mention that his entire premise for intention, and pleasure, and source of G-d or divine energy, is completely 100% kabbalah, that would be real kabbalah, not kabbalah centre reconstituted kabbalah--Guess he didn't get the part about the ego, huh?
Rating: Summary: A must for everyone striving to reach the next level. Review: I was bored one afternoon and switched on the TV. I saw Wayne's familiar face and heard his wonderful voice. This caught my attention and I watched the entire show for the next 2 hours. Impulsively I ordered the entire set (including the DVD, audio CD and the meditation books and CD).
These promptly arrived a few days later. Both I and my wife thoroughly enjoy watching the DVDs when we are at home together. The book is very powerful as well. I have been a great fan of Wayne this has been one of his best works. "You'll see it when you believe it" being my all-time favorite.
Rating: Summary: I suggest that you pass on this book. Unnecessary. Review: I'm not adverse to co-creating or re-creating my world my way, however, when I stand back and consider a bigger picture I would rather focus on parenting and insuring that my children will have better chances of success than I. I think this point is missed in "The Power of Intention." We act and react in the way we do largely due to the experiences we received during our influential years. It is helpful to maintain those skills we absorbed that are healthy and helpful, while eliminating those skills that are less helpful and healthy. I'm not sure it is too productive to begin completely recreating our perceptions of our world when we already have a pretty good base that might benefit from a tweak or tune-up. What Dyer suggests sounds good on the motivational speaker circuit but is probably not too practical for the masses. I suggest that you pass on "The Power of Intention" but rather take a look at "Systemic Parenting: An Exploration of the Parenting Big Picture" - written by a family therapist named Mark Gaskill. Don't let the name fool you, this book is about all relationships not just the parent-child relationship. There is a quote on the cover that states "It's almost as though this book is about everything - or maybe everything is about parenting" - J.M. Shaw Ph.D. I could not sum it up better. I cannot say the same about the Power of Intention.
