Summary: Touches my heart deeply
Review: This bookfs drama takes place in a rural area in the U.S. Characters in the book has individual unique personality and backgrounds, although the relationships of characters are not too complicated. The relationships and influences to other characters are also interesting. The author describes the scenery carefully, so that I can imagine what is going on easily even though I am an international student. Love between a man and a woman, mother and daughter, or human and animals make me more eager to read, I could not wait what would happen in the next chapter. I usually do not finish reading a book, but this book is different. Youfll not be bored the story as you read more, and stop reading until you finish.

Summary: life of Honk and Holler
Review: At first, it was not intresting at all. But in the end of this story, I feel so happy. Caney, Vena, Bui and Molly O are not family. But each of them beccame a part of the family. Even though they don't have any blood relationship, they could become the the family. The human is very lonesome. However, they became family by taking care of each other. The important thing is the trustful relationship of the human mind. If we miss it, we will not be a part of the family any more.

Summary: Oklahoman Delight Special
Review: If you have patience enough to read through the first fourteen chapters, I am pretty sure that you enjoy very much the rest of twenty-four chapters with intriguing characters in this heartwarming story. Caney, Vietnam Vet living on wheelchair, runs a small cafe "The Honk and Holler Opening Soon" in Oklahoma and has never gone out of the cafe where he lives for more than ten years. He was afraid to change his life and trying to keep binding himself to a regular world. Vena, wandering native American woman, showed up in front of Caney in Christmas week and she turned around his life through a heartfelt interaction with her. There were a lot of charming characters beside Caney and Vena such as Molly O, Caney's long friend having a trouble with her daughter, and Bui, Vietnamese refugee leaving his wife in Vietnam, and many pages were spared to describe their backgrounds and troubles. Toward the end of the story, each life of characters was interwoven into one great story and you feel Billy Letts's excellent talent in story organization. I hope you would share this good experience with me.

Summary: Honk and Holler
Review: Overall, this is a good book because it encourages people to forget the distress and just go ahead. But I think the plots and contents are too simple. When I read this novel, I almost could image what would happen in the next step. The story seems to follow a formula, like a man, Canny, was reborn because he loved a woman, Vena, and so does the woman. And other people, like Bui and Molly O, also overcame their problems. Seriously it is a warm story, but nothing special. Therefore it didn't leave any inspiring or impressive ideas in my mind and didn't really touch me. Nevertheless, I think the author is good at writing. She used many details such as the movements to describe each people and is successful to build each person's character. If you are seeking something unique, I don't recommend this book. But you can consider it as pastime and read it in amusement.

Summary: I got it.
Review: Vietnam War has been a heavy cross to the United States' people. I am Japanese living in Tokyo. So, this is my first opportunity to read a novel referred to Vietnam War. I know Vietnam War historically, however, I did not know how impact Vietnam War provided to the United States' people. From experiences of Caney Paxon, Vietnam Vet on the wheel chair, we went through many hardships. In addition, to the stage of this story, Honk and Holler Opening Soon, the name of the café in Oklahoma, people who owed burdens came together. Molly O always worried about her seventeen-years-old daughter. Vena was ill treated in school days because she was native Americans and her mother was mutilating herself and hauled away by an ambulance. But she was tough in a way, tough enough to take on a bully. Bui was a Vietnamese refugee, who could not understand American words enough. We can also taste various hardships from their experiences and relationships between Caney.

Summary: Fascinating
Review: Caney, Molly O, Vena, Bui. They are good-natured in a sense and had many bitter and unhappy experiences in the past. They also suffer from unhappy events one after another. But at last Caney and Vena could be happy. Because they got their baby, Caney Paxton the Second. He is welcomed by regulars of the Honk and the Honk is full of happiness. I was waiting for such a happy end. The author writes fascinating twists well. This novel made me cry and smile.

Summary: My view of the Honk and Holler Opening Soon
Review: This novel is an interesting psychological study of the human being. It has a solid and well-developed argument, but in my opinion the importance of the novel relies on the characters, their personalities and circumstances. The characters represent very different ways of being and show different perspectives upon facing the challenges of life. However, they all have one thing in common: all of them share a painful past, and some of them have had a tragic experience that marked them in life. An extreme example of this could be Caney's story: after suffering an accident in the Vietnam war which left him wheelchair bound, he stayed twelve years without going out of the Honk and Holler Opening Soon. All the characters come from different places and they all meet at this coffee shop in Oklahoma. Since that moment, their lives cross and influence each other. This novel has moments of joy but most of the times it is sad and depressing. It shows real life without hiding the darkest part of the existence.

Summary: Real human life
Review: I am Japanese. I have read English novel a few times. So, it took long time to read it through, but I did not feel bored. It is because during my reading I was dying to know what happened next. I think it is a real page-turner. Stories go in the food shop, where I felt warm and friendly. If there were such food shop, I would like to go there. Furthermore, I want to try "Where the heart is." by Billie Letts.

Summary: Enjoy this book!
Review: I'm an English student in Boston from Japan. I could enjoy this book because it was very easy to read. The language was not much sophisticated and the plot was not so complicated, neither. I was impressed by her characters even though they were sad. Caney, was injured in Vietnam and confined to a wheelchair, and has confined himself inside, never went outside after opening the "Honk". Molly O, his partner at the cafe, had a daughter named Brenda. They ran the "Honk" togather and have regular customers every day, but was not a good business. Then after Vena Takes Horse came to the cafe as a carhop many things has changed. Caney fell in love with Vena. Bui, from Viet Nam, also started working at Honk. Vena and Bui finally get Caney outside in a surprising(strange?) way. Chek it out!! This story was interesting because all characters has different personalities, but everyone has lot in common. I wolud like to read soon another book written by Billie Letts.

Summary: You can enjoy "Bui's Asian Delight Special"at The H&H!
Review: Everyone including me live with bitter experiences. The characters in the story also have them. A Vietnam Vet Caney is in wheel chair and the owner of the H&H in OK. A waitress Molly O has a daughter who always annoys her daughter. A Vietnamese refugee Bui who is not good at English looks for a job. Everything seems dark and unchangeable until one December day, an Indian woman with a three legged dog coming to the H&H.

Although we sometimes have the sadness that we can not overcome all alone, the story helps us to believe that we can overcome it with somebody and help each other. After reading the story, I realized that I wanted to be with the characters more and I was happy that Bui was not killed. Because I could enjoy “Bui’s Asian Delight Special” again in the H&H-2. (Sequence of H&H)
