Rating: Summary: Wonderful-Heartwarming-Totally Captivating Review: I read the book in one sitting--and am ready for more---Billie Letts can't write books fast enough for me. I felt an instant connection with the people in the book--and didn't want it to end.
Rating: Summary: Another wonderful ,quirky story from Oklahoma. Review: I thought it was slow starting, but when it picked up the pace I loved it and couldn't put it down. I love the realness of her characters and how their neediness all seems to relate. These are lessons in life.
Rating: Summary: Excellent follow-up to Where the Heart Is Review: I read her first book, Where the Heart is and fell in love withit. I put off reading Honk and Holler because I didn't want to bedisappointed, but I wasn't! The characters were every bit as engaging and unique as in Letts' first book. And where does she come up with those names?! The thing that impresses me the most about LEtt's books is her ability to write dialog. As I read the conversations I could hear the characters actually having these conversations. So many writers today write dialog that I've never heard spoken. She expertly captured and conveyed the emotions that the characters were feeling while they spoke.
Rating: Summary: Book pulled me in Review: At first, I thought that the book wasn't for me and I was tempted to put it down and not finish it, but the book pulled me in. The characters and plot line are intriguing. I liked this book as much as I liked where the heart is.
Rating: Summary: WONDERFUL!!! Review: I thought that nothing could compare to her first book till I read The Honk and Holler Opening soon. An eclectic group of characters put together via fate or whatever. Seems a little too altruistic sometimes. But it is a good read, a good cry. Can't help but ask the author for more.
Rating: Summary: WOW! Review: As much as I liked "Where The Heart Is," I liked "The Honk and Hollar Opening Soon" much more. Ms. Letts' writing is so comfortable, the characters in this book were so likeable. I couldn't put the book down and am now in withdrawal - where is No. 3?? I kept thinking the story would easily make a movie then read that Billie Letts has written the screenplay already. Just hope the movie cast is as good as the written cast. The only drawback I find are the covers - they are not appealing to me and I would not have bought the books from those covers if it hadn't been suggested that I read "Where The Heart Is" - I would have hated to miss these two books. Keep it up, Billie! Don't let the "Agonies" getcha.
Rating: Summary: A WONDERFUL BOOK Review: I wish i could get another book that she has written I cannot even wait till she writes book number3 . I look on the computer to see if a new book is out yet, or i call the book stores in my area or in another state just to see when there will be another book out that Billie Letts has written. I cannot wait till there is another book out there because i will be the one first in line to get it.I could not hardly put the books down that she had written, i found this author out on the Opraph win. show, and I am so glad that I watch that show that day. In fact it has spoiled me so that i do not feel like i want to even read anything else if it is not written by her. Wonderful stories and kept my interest at all times. I would put the kids down to bed and get a cup of tea and just sit back for hours reading her books. Thank you so much for that. Jackie Murray
Rating: Summary: Devoured in One Day Review: Loved this book! I started it during lunch and found myself wanting to pick it up several times at my desk at work. As soon as I got home I plunked down and devoured the rest of this book.I liked how this book made me feel -- kind of calm and content. It also has some good lessons in it. I'm going to pass this book on to my sister, mother and grandmother -- and anyone else who will read it. It seemed like Billie Letts left the door open for a sequel ala "The Mitford Books". I hope so. I'd like to read more and find out what else happens to the characters in this book as they travel through life.
Rating: Summary: This was truly a heartwarming book. Review: I loved this book, and I loved all the characters and how they all worked together. I think it was really awesome how everyone came to be so accepting of a woman who had never been accepted anywhere else.
Rating: Summary: A great follow-up Review: What a truly engaging novel. I loved Ms. Letts's characters in Honk and Holler just as much as I did in Where the Heart Is. Somehow she makes you really care about them, which is a hard thing to do in my opinion! A word of warning to some who hope that this novel is a Where the Heart Is knock-off: it's not, far from it. You cannot compare the two, if you do you will be disappointed. Honk and Holler is a completely different novel that stands tall all by itself. Please read this one, it's fantastic. Can't wait for book number 3!
