Summary: The Honk and Hollar Opening Soon
Review: this was a great story of hope and human nature, the story was hopeful but still kept you wondering what was gonna happen. A great quick read. Wish there was a sequel.

Summary: I couldn't put this book down!
Review: I have another new favorite author and her name is Billie Letts. This book wrapped itself around me from the first to the last page and I was disappointed when the story ended and so had my relationship with these people. Each character had a story with depth and dimension that is hard to capture. Each person had a history that you can find within the people you meet everyday, including the Sam Ketchum's of the world, unfortunately. I would love to revisit the live's of these people in a sequel to find out if Bui's wife ever came to the United States, if Molly's daughter ever got her act together and became a caring human being and to check in on Caney and Vena to see how their relationship has progressed.

Summary: Good . . . but not as good as Where The Heart Is
Review: I loved Where The Heart Is, and couldn't wait to get my hands on The Honk. For the first half of the book, I was VERY disappointed. I hadn't connected to any of the characters - I felt as though the author waited too long to give me enough background about the characters for me to care about them. Then, as they started to develop for me, I was already well into the second half of the book. Anyway, my favorite character was Bui, the Vietnamese man who was waiting throughout the entire story for his wife to join him in the US. Billie Letts could write her next book about this character and I would be one of the first to buy!

Summary: Honk & Holler Review
Review: I felt this book was not quite as good as Where the Heart is. It was still a worthwhile read but I found the story to drag at some points. Billie Letts is a very talented writer and I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a light, entertaining read.

Summary: Where the Heart Isn't
Review: For those of you wanting to recapture the warmth and spirit of "Where the Heart Is", you'll have to look elsewhere. While the book on its own is a fairly enjoyable read, it nowhere compares to Letts' previous novel. At times it seems somewhat contrived ("look at this weird and wacky character!"), and the character are nowhere near as charming as Novalee Nation and her companions.

Summary: I don't know if I can wait for Billie's Letts next book...
Review: I read her first book "Where the Heart is" and just fell in love with her unique characters. No boring people here. The next book " Honk and Holler Opening Soon" I just couldn't put it down. I think I read almost the whole book in one night...I don't think I have ever done that ever before. I made all my friend read it...I lived in Texas for 10 years and understood the atmosphere. I don't think my yankee friends got it as much as I did, but I know they enjoyed it alot. Now that her first novel has gone to film...opening up the end of April 2000, I hope this book won't be far behind. The characters here were even more endearing. Listen Hollywood...this book would make an even better movie. Billie...when are you writing another book? I will be first in line to buy it. Please say it's almost here...

Summary: Letts Honk for Opening Soon
Review: Reading Billie Letts'stories, one has the chance to embrace the cultural charm of rural America if one is willing to travel the country roads. Having had the pleasure of living in rural West Virginia, Billie Letts has given me the opportunity to remember some people in my own life who treated "newcomers" with a candidness not often shared in relationships in more urban settings. Letts reminds us that having respect for the human condition empowers people to overcome life's obstacles, to grow, and to embrace happiness without looking back. A great story that sensitively approaches relationships that struggle with loss and despair with a spiritual integrity that makes the reader feel just plain good. Let's hope Billie Letts never stops writing.

Summary: Wonderful Read
Review: I love Letts' books. You really relate to the characters with a lot of tears and lots of laughs as well. I flew through the book and lent it to my friends so they could share the same emotions. Keep on writing Billie Letts.

Summary: The Honk
Review: This is one of those easy reads that transported me away, into the story. I could not put it down. I cared about the characters and felt that they could be people I have known, people living just down the road.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Friends and Neighbors
Review: Once I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down. With the threat of a freeze, I crawled in the bed and snuggled down and read, and didn't surface until I had read the last page.

Ms. Letts has created a group of characters who I cared about. I wanted to know what was going on in their lives to the point that I was growling at those who treated them carelessly, cheered when good things happened. It's rare for an author to not only draw you into a story, but make you a part of it as well.

Excellent read.
