Rating: Summary: Not her best, but not the worst Review: I've read a lot of romance and almost all of Jude Deveraux's books. Like all of Deveraux's books, this one is a cut above your usual romance (she doesn't get her plots from a can). However, it is not Deveraux's best. This book is worth reading. It wasn't terrible. It kept me turning pages for two days, but in the end I was waiting to get more out of the book and suddenly it was over. The good part of the book was that it was an easy read with imperfect characters (something that I always like to see). It wasn't totally predictable, but seemed a bit contrived here and there. The bad part was that it was more about friendship than romance (in fact, the male characters you get to know best are the bad ones). So - Read it, but don't expect the world.
Rating: Summary: One of her best!! You will not be sorry.... Review: I will not give you any details about this story & you'll thank me later... Left me wondering...If Only..? Do Not Miss This Book!!!
Rating: Summary: Reminds me why I love Deveraux Review: The last several books of hers have disappointed me greatly, but this book reminds me of what I love about her. I sat down to read a bit of it and I couldn't put it down, it so completely engrossed me and by the end, I was crying!
Rating: Summary: PICK A MOMENT OF YOUR LIFE AND CHANGE IT FOR THE BETTER Review: I ORDERED THIS BOOK BEFORE IT WAS EVEN RELEASED. I SPENT THE FIRST 2 HOURS OF MOTHER'S DAY SHOOING EVERYONE AWAY SO I COULD FINISH THE LAST FEW PAGES....LOVED IT!!! IT WAS WORTH THE BLOOD SHOT EYES AND STIFF NECK. WHEN IS HER NEXT BOOK DUE????
Rating: Summary: Time travel, romance, and a bit of murder. Review: This book has it all. Three women meet in a summerhouse in Maine for their fortieth birthday where they confront the past, only to secure a future that turns their worlds upside down. Ellie, a famous writer, is trying to come to terms with a debilitating divorce. She is the instigator of the meeting. Madison is a bedraggled beauty queen never to be found without a cigarette in her mouth, her once glowing and dewy skin now gray and pale. Our third lady is Leslie, a wanna be dancer who trained and dreamed of the future as a young girl giving it all up for a family and station wagon in the suburbs. Our ladies meet up with a strange woman on Everlasting Street who allows them to return to the past, how and why each of them does, is the stuff that books are made of. The results are cataclysmic to some and minor to others. I love how this book played out. The author had several stories going at once all to lead to a grand conclusion. After reading Temptation I almost didn't pick this one up. I'm glad I did, it was an enjoyable summer read. Kelsana 7/9/01
Rating: Summary: Wonderful, powerful story, another must read :) Review: To give you a little history of how I read, I have a select few authors that I follow with a fanatics passion. So when I find out that a new book will be released I find out the date and that's pretty much it. I like to be suprised, and most of the time I find that the 'blerb' gives too much of the story away. Which ruins the flow of the story ( not unlike movie trailers, which I also don't watch ), I'm just anal that way. That said I was not expecting how much this book would effect me. Anyway to get back to the review... Along the lines of Remembrance, half way through I almost gave up on this novel. The first half made me hide in my room for ten minutes and cry out my frustrations. How could life be so cruel? Leslie and Ellie not so much, but Madison to be put through so much to find no relief was just crushing. Then the second half made me cry with such relief. Of course there was a happy ending, but it's the journey to that end that leaves you questioning... Will 'Hapily ever after' happen?
Rating: Summary: Dreadful Review: Maybe it was because I just finished reading books by Wally Lamb, Rosemarie Pilcher, and Pat Conroy, but his was awful. The midnight ride on horseback was too much! Can anyone really imagine getting together with two other women that you spent an hour with getting your license at 21, then hooking up 20 years later and spilling your guts about such personal matters? Are all her books this contrived? If so, hand me the pen, I've got some money to make.
Rating: Summary: Too Condensed Review: Let me start out by saying this is a must read. It is light, easy and fun. It is not meant to be believable!! That is why they call it fiction! My only complaint is that Jude condensed 3 stories into one book. Although it keeps the action going, I feel too much of each character was overlooked. I loved all 3 main characters and would have liked each of their stories told in full. All in all, though, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys escaping into a book.
Rating: Summary: "The Perfect Summer Book" Review: "The Summerhouse" by Jude Deveraux was truly one of the best books that I have ever read. It is the perfect novel for the beach because you can't put it down. The idea of going back to your past to change your future was a great idea and you want to know the outcome so badly that you don't put the book down. This is a must read so add it today to your summer reading list, you won't regret it!
Rating: Summary: Time to Dream Review: Have you ever wondered which road you would choose in life if you were standing at a cross road and you knew what path 'A' lead to and were allowed to test out path 'B'? After reading Jude Deveraux's new hardbound book, 'Summerhouse', images of possibilities glide through your mind. 'What if's' abound like apples on a tree. I enjoyed the premise throughly, dreaming about the 'what-ifs' in life, but found myself bogged down in the early portion of the book. This is a nice read for those lazy summer evenings, and a good book to pass on to your friends who may not be oh so happy with their present lives.
