Rating: Summary: A Great Read! Review: I would definetely recommend this book to anyone looking for a great read! I found it to be horribly close to the American home, the three women involved going through such real (sometimes exaggerated, but nonetheless real)disasters. And then a chance to do it all over again... This book teaches about the rarity of second chances. Live life to the fullest now!
Rating: Summary: Loved It!! Review: This is the first book I've read of Jude Deveraux's but it will definately not be my last.
Rating: Summary: Terrific Book! Review: Amazing book! I couldn't put it down! The Summerhouse is a must read for your list of summer books!
Rating: Summary: GREAT BOOK Review: Whether a reader liked THE SUMMERHOUSE or not, I think the premise was great. Who wouldn't want to go back in time and and relive and maybe change a bit of the out come of a particular time in one's life. There have been many times I wish I could find a lady like Madame Zoya, who could transport me back. It was a great read!!!!!
Rating: Summary: ugh. Review: This book was the monthly choice from a member of my book club; therefore, I was somewhat forced into it. Though I do occasionally encounter a book club choice that I would never have picked but end up thoroughly enjoying, this was not the case for Summerhouse. The plot is somewhat upsurd, but I would have been willing to accept that if the characters were believable and a little less insulting. This book is one big cliche (Leslie's husband is cheating on her with a secretary named Bambi! No, really). The female characters are shamefully pathetic and needy, and the circumstances surrounding their original meeting are just plain goofy. Don't even get me started on the dialogue--completely unbelievable. The only reason I gave this read two stars instead of one is because, amidst all of the incredulous elements, I was somehow compelled to find out how low the book would go. It's redeeming quality is the guilty indulgence you will feel upon completing it.
Rating: Summary: A beach read, fun and supernatural Review: This is my first Jude Devereaux book and I enjoyed it. The premise of the story is three women who met at 19 at the DMV get together as they turn 40 to look back at their lives. It takes a supernatural turn when an opportunity arises for these ladies to go back in time to live three weeks over again. All three women chose a time important to them, a turning point in their mind, where their lives could have gone one way or another. I enjoyed this read. It was not a deep enduring story, but it was unique and a fun way to pass the time. Sometimes Devereaux's story is a bit too perfect, but it is a romance after all. Overall, a good story to take you away. Although, it may make you look at your life and decide where in time you would like to return to and daydream about the road not taken.
Rating: Summary: Too Stupid for Words Review: This book insulted my intelligence. I realize that when I pick up a book from the romance section that I am not buying fine literature. However, I do not expect to be purchasing a book that reads like it was written by a 10 year old. Jude Devereaux just writes without any reason and if she needs a certain prop at a certain time, she just pulls it out of thin air and plops it in there. One example: Three girls meet at the DMV and are kept waiting on a bench together by a clerk "Ira" who just wants to look at them because he thinks they're cute. Then when they discover that all three of them are celebrating the same birthday that day, they mention to "Ira" that they are going to get a cake to celebrate. Well, it just so happens that "Ira" noticed that it was their birthday and arranged to have a cake baked by the bakery next door for them. How convenient! And how ridiculously stupid. I should have stopped reading this book at this point and pitched it. But, no, I had to continue reading it and the same type of stupidity went on through the entire book. I definitely would not recommend this book. There are thousands of romance and time travel novels. Select another one.
Rating: Summary: How many times have you said ... Review: "If I only knew then what I know now, I'd have done things differently." Three women get just that chance. I read this book and have passed it on to all my girlfriends. I fell in love with all the characters, and found myself rooting for Madison. I laughed out loud and I shed a few tears. I love this book! This was my first Jude Deveraux book. It certainly hasn't been my last. "The Summerhouse" was a fun and easy read, but makes you think and wonder at the same time...wonder what I would do differently if I had their chance. One thing for sure, this is one book that I'll re-read over and over. "The Summerhouse" just has to be made into a movie.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down!!! Review: Although the premise is far fetched - that anyone could be transported back in time - this book was wonderful. You really come to care for the characters and feel their emotions. I couldn't stop turning the pages to see how it all worked out for the 3 main characters. I was particularly rooting for Madison! It really made me think about how small decisions could change your entire life. I started wondering if I had the opportunity to go back and revisit a period of my life when it would be and what I would do differently. A fun and fast read. I enjoyed it thoroughly!
Rating: Summary: Summerhouse take me away! Review: This is a great book!!! I couldn't tear myself away from reading it... I was unable to put it down. I read "Summerhouse" this past summer. I took it everywhere with me! What a great fantasy.... enjoy!
