Summary: Starts out strong, but landslides after that
Review: Being a great fan of John's first novel, A Time to Kill, and hearing that The Firm was his undisbuted masterpiece, I went into The Firm with extremely high expectations. I assure you, the movie is even worse, so you are warned.

Mitchell Y. McDeere was given an offer he could not refuse. The young law school graduate has been hired by a law firm with his lovely wife Abby for the Bendini, Lambert, and Locke Law Firm. Things seem all right for a while, but when the FBI approaches him for help and he finds out the secret of the firm and that no one has ever left there alive...........

The premise for this book is wonderful, but when we put this mans talents beside the talent we saw in A Time to Kill, this book falls far short. In its entirety, I found that I liked McDeeres wife better since she seemed so ready for anything and so down to earth and he was just a take charge person, sort of like a dumb college football player. I'm telling you, stick to Brad Meltzer, because this guy can't keep up with his own story.

Summary: The novel that made Grisham!
Review: I read this book at the age of 13 when it first came out and decided at the age of 24 to reread it. The novel remained a page-turner even though I already knew what was going to happen! A modern classic in every respect.

Summary: the firm
Review: The story starts out simple enough. Micth Mcdeere has just graduated top of his Harvard law class. Almost every major firm in the United States wants Mitch in their firm. On a whim Mitch visits a well-known Memphis tax firm. From the start Mitch and his wife cannont belive how much the firm is offerning Mitch. Seemingly everything Mitch asks for the firm is willing to give him. The firm offers to pay all of Mitches college loans and buy him a brand new BMW!
Its hard to believe that Mitch ever came from such humble beginings. Mitch was born of humble beginings. His mother was a single mother upon the untimely death of Mitch's father. Mitch struggled to put himself through Kentucky Western University and Harvard Law School. With this new offer on the table, it seems like Mitch and his wife are financially set for life.
Unfortunatley after about a month of working for the Tax firm Mitch is contacted by the FBI. The FBI informs Mitch that the firm is an elaborate cover-up for a mafia crime family. Now the FBI is putting the pressure on Mitch to give them sercet internal firm documents. The FBI hopes the documents will be incriminating enough to bring indictments on the crime family and the attorneys in the firm. But you have to find out for yourself what Mitch decides to do.
I really enjoyed this book. I couldn't wait to see what happened next. Grisham has written an excellent book. I suggest you read this book.

Summary: Breathtaking
Review: This book is truly a keeper. The rush is sensational. Although there are some points where it does drag a bit, the drama and the suspense are unparalleled. All eyes stick to the main character.

Summary: The Firm
Review: The Firm is one of Grisham's best. It's a fast pace and exciting book. Full of deceit and mystery. Not to mention love and hate. People who read this book should see the movie too. Read the book first too. This constantly transfers from one scene to another like in many Grisham books/. Anyone who likes books about American Law should read any of Grishams great books/.

Summary: One of Grisham's best
Review: "The Firm" does keep you firmly stuck to the book until you finish it. An interesting and intriguing plot revolving around a clandestine law firm setup in the Grisham's favorite Mississippi area, captivates until about the reader is 70% through. After that the road is straight till the end as we just see the hero effectively gets rid of the unscrupulous company and the agents.

Grisham engrosses with the story and the nitty-gritty details, enabling the reader imagine clearly without a stint.

I read the story before I saw the movie and I woundn't have read if I had seen the movie before. The movie also was well taken and the selecting of artists was just perfect.

An enjoyable read. If you like Grisham, then you will love this one.

Summary: One of the better John Grisham books
Review: Gripping story, very worth reading.... this is one of the better Johan Grisham books... better than "The Brethren" and "The Testament"... as good as "A Painted House" (although a much different style)... The story is never boring and when you get further to the end, you just cannot stop reading...

Summary: Classic Grisham
Review: John Grisham has hit a home run with the firm. It's a tale that leaves you hanging breathless on the edge of your seat as you race towards the finish, hopeing, trusting, that the good guys will get away and the bad guys will go down to certain defeat.

Mich McDeere (portrayed by Tom Cruise in the movie) is a young lawyer who just made it big time. He is hired by Bendini, Lambert, and Locke--a powerful, wealthy firm in Memphis, TN. His wife and he feel like they are finally making it--trading in their cramped apartment for new, spacious digs and ditching the old car for a new luxury sedan.

It isn't long before McDeere begins to become wary of the extreme security in plaace at the firm. He is soon approached by an FBI agent who informs him that everything in his home and office is bugged.

In forthcoming meetings, the FBI informs McDeere that they are investigating the firm and they need his help. Realizing he has no option, McDeere goes along. The personal torture of putting his wife through the strain and his forthcoming marital problems add a personal element to the story like only Grisham can do.

In the end, all is saved. The partners are jailed and McDeere is re-united with his wife. A great story.
