Summary: The Lion's Game, by Nelson Demille
Review: My favorite author has done it again! The Lion's Game was terrific, and it was a pleasure to follow John Corey, NYPD, once again, as in Plum Island. This book has it all, terrific humor, suspense, nonstop action. I highly recommend reading it, but beware, you will not be able to put it down until you have read every word!

Summary: Couldn't be any better
Review: I've read all of DeMilles works and without a doubt this was the best......I enjoyed Cory's wit and sarcasm (sometimes it gets a little much tho). The story line was good and never left you in the dark too long. His characters were believeable. Asad was a trip! DeMille did a great job of researching the Arab nation (as well as the NYC police dept , the FBI, CIA, etc)

Thanks for a good read....looking forward to your next one>>>

PS: did anyone catch the reference to "The Generals Daughter?

Summary: Still Searching for the vanishing Mr. DeMille
Review: I purchased the Lion's Game with the hope that Mr. DeMille would have created an edge of your seat thriller like Charm School, By the Rivers of Babylon, Spencerville, or Word of Honor. I had a secret dread that instead, this work would contain his "fast and loose" slang and use of idoms ad nausem. The plot of the book is good. However it's not written to the same level of intellectual stimulation that the aforementioned books are. Lions Game has a shallow, "slangy", high school locker room "undercurrent" and I was very disappointed. As of late, it's almost as though Mr. Demille has gotten lazy in his writing style and tries to utilize cliches instead of intellect to fill the pages. It appears that Mr. DeMille is NOT at his best when writing about and trying to emulate police officers. He can't depict them with the same level of skill that he depicts military and foreign service officers. I am saddened that this work falls short of his best. However, the plot is exciting - so maybe it's for you if you are not a content and grammar snob, as am I.

Summary: Fast, Funny, Totally Entertaining
Review: I'm only sad that I'll have to wait another year or so for DeMille's next effort! (I've read everything else by him.) This book was great - right up there with The General's Daughter and Plum Island with respect to an engrossing story, and on par with The Gold Coast on the humor front. John Corey is by far my favorite character. If I had one complaint, it would be that the romance between Corey and Mayfield did not completely ring true to me. But that's a small quibble. This book was utterly entertaining and I enjoyed every minute of it. I'm ANXIOUSLY awaiting your next thriller, Nelson!

Summary: terrific read
Review: I thought this was an extremely well done book -- funny, tense and a heck of a story. Be careful when you start it, because you won't put it down! I just lost a week-end!

Review: I couldn't put this book down. Although it's a long story..every page was great! can hardly wait for the next one!

Summary: Excellent read
Review: Although The Lion's Game is not quite the Charm School, which may be the most entertaining book I have ever read. The Lion's game certainly delivers with an incredibly entertaining book that is skillfully written from beginning to end. I thought the ending could have been a little stronger, and I am shocked by what happens to John Corey at the end. It seems so out of character for him, we'll see how long it lasts. Other than that, The Lion's Game is a great book that I would recommend to anyone.

Summary: The Lion's Game is a winner! (refers to hardcover edition)
Review: I had been eagerly awaiting the sequel to Plum Island and wasn't disappointed. The first person POV of John Corey is as captivating as the peek into the mind of the terrorist, Asad Khalil. I am a huge fan of The X-Files and couldn't keep up with all the references, hilarious! The in-joke about the movie critic that bashed The General's Daughter was cute too. I have read most of Mr. DeMille's work and have also listened to several of his books on audio tape. The interview with Thomas Block and Nelson DeMille on the Mayday audio tape was enthralling as was DeMille's solo interview on the Spencerville audio tape. I prefer the unabridged vesions of audio tapes where available, as I miss certain parts of the book I remember reading. Keep writing Mr. DeMille and I'll keep reading and listening!

Summary: Much better than I expected!
Review: Forget Grisham, Baldacci and the like who have failed with their last books, pickup DeMille. He never fails. The dialogue is witty, believable and delightful. The plot moves along so swiftly I suspect a good many people have called in sick to the office just to finish this thriller. Having worked for the government I'm familiar with their incompetencies and find it refreshing that an author actually tells it like it is instead of glorifying federal law enforcement. John Corey is, of course, what everyone thinks of when you mention New York cop, cynical and a whole lot more intelligent then expected. This book, like the General's Daughter, grabs you at the beginning and does not let go. After being disappointed in Plum Island I was a little leary of reading another DeMille but this one does not disappoint, actually it's probably worth reading a second time. Not only is it a good thriller but it's funny. There were parts I had to read aloud to my spouse--calling the terrorist a 'psycho camel jockey' was priceless and just one of many of the book's amusing quips. Buy this book, you can't go wrong!

Summary: I couldn't put it down.
Review: The only other DeMille book I had read was "The General's Daughter." But if all his book are as good as that one and "The Lion's Game", I 'll have to read more. The story line was interesting, and DeMille's use of humor was excellent.
