Rating: Summary: A Truly Beautiful and Moving Film Review: I caught the recent airing of this movie on the Hallmark Channel, and was totally blown away by this amazing story of courage and the healing power of love. Not to mention finding something you never knew you needed, and just when you least expected it--which is a fairly accurate descripton of what happens to Jacob, a widowed father of two who places a newspaper ad for a wife, with the main intent of finding a mother for his lonely young children. Enter Sarah, an intelligent and independent woman from Maine who exchanges letters with Jacob and his children and decides to journey to Kansas and stay with them for a month on a sort of trial basis. As the four get used to this new arrangement and go through several trials together, Jacob's children quickly grow to adore Sarah, and she them. Jacob clearly likes and respects Sarah, but his refusal to acknowledge his grief, pain, and feelings of guilt over his first wife's death mean he isn't able to let himself LOVE Sarah--yet. But soon, Jacob finds himself forced to confront those feelings head on. Finally, Jacob gives in to his long-buried grief and pain--and, at last, he is able to open up his heart and confess all to Sarah. But will Sarah decide to stay--or leave him and his children for the seaside home in Maine she misses so much? Glenn Close and Christopher Walken are both OUTSTANDING in this film which is a wonderful choice for a family film night or if you just want to see a really great movie all by your lonesome!

Rating: Summary: Sarah, Plain and Tall Review: I am enrolled in a children's literature class at West Virginia State College. My teacher has recently given our class an assignment to read a Newbery Award Winner book. I chose to read this wonderfully written and touching book about two children and their father who is trying to find a wife by placing an ad in the paper. This book shows wisdom and courage of young children coping with living without a mother. I would highly recommend this book to everyone. It would be wonderful to read in a classroom setting while talking about this time period in history.
Rating: Summary: The best book ever Review: This book was the best book ever! I will tell you five characters in this book: Caleb, Anna, Jacob, Sarah, Maggie. One day, Jacob Winning put an ad in the paper for a wife and a mother because Caleb and Anna's mom died. The Winnings received an answer from Sarah that she would come and stay for one month to see how she likes it. Lottie and Nick are their two dogs, but Sarah brings a cat named Seal. The cat and the dogs get along. In the middle of the book, a squall comes. They have to hide in the barn. In the last part of the book, Sarah is missing her home near the sea. She tells them about sand dunes. Jacob goes to the barn. He uses the hay to make a dune for Sarah to slide down and Sarah liked the dune. Caleb, Anna, and Jacob slid down the dune, too. I loved this book. I want you to read it!
