Rating: Summary: More than a "bat" book Review: This book is about Stellaluna, a baby bat who finds itself lost, hungry, alone, and accidentally in a nest full of baby birds. The little bat is accepted by the birds, but somehow never feels at home, especially after a good scolding from the mother bird about hanging upside down -- hillarious. The artwork is outstanding, the story is entertaining, and children and adults love this book. I have even picked it up and read it a time or two after the children went to bed. This is an award winning book, and for good reason. There are strong underlying messages in it about place, acceptance, home and family. Definitely 5+ stars.
Rating: Summary: Stellaluna Review: What a wonderful Book! This book has great illustrations that tell the story very well. This book is about a bat who's mother is attacked by an owl when he is just a little baby. Luckily enough when he fell from his mother's arms he landed into a birds nest and they took him in. Although the birds and Stellaluna are very different, the become a family. Although Stellaluna never really feels at home. One day Stellaluna gets yelled at by the Mama bird because she was hanging upside down and the little birds decided to do the same. The two animals have very different personalities. This story teaches us a lot about acceptance and differences between things. But even though people and animals are different doesn't mean they can't get along. ~Kellie~
Rating: Summary: wonderful book- beautiful illustrations & good moral Review: Stellaluna is about a bat who lost her mother. She was then raised by birds and learned to grow up like them (fly during day/eat worms). She eventually found her mother bat but went back to her bird siblings to introduce them to flying at night & eating fruit. The birds were unable to do those things but Stellaluna & the birds decided that despite their differences they will still be friends. I think this book is great because it teaches children to embrace their differences and also that friendship goes beyond those differences. I love this book & think it has wonderful illustrations- my little baby is only 6 months now but I am sure when he gets older that he will love this book.
Rating: Summary: Stellaluna Review: In my opinion "Stellaluna" (a children's story book published for children between 4-7) is an extremly well written children's story book. When a mother fruit bat is attacked by an owl, her baby bat falls. Between branches and trees, twigs, thorns and vines; falls the dear Stellaluna. This book is about survival of the battiest. Cannon describes with great detail and emotion. When I first read this book, I didn't think there was a moral. I was to engrossed in the book to bother for menial tasks as paying attention. But, I have finally figured it out. The moral of this story is, "No matter what happens in life, those who you can depend upon the most is your family and friends". When you read this book I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Rating: Summary: Stellaluna Review Review: This book is about a young fruit bat, who gets separated from her family and has to learn how to live like another bird. She has to overcome sitting upside-down and and eat the same food as birds, like worms. I liked this book when I was young and I still like it now. I like this book because of its equisite illustrations and its rich content. The author, Janell Cannon, really worked his magic in this book. He has made other books but this one is the best out of all of them. This book is a lot more interesting than all of his other book. It is amazing. I would recommend this book to all kids who like birds and bats.

Rating: Summary: Mother bird is a bad role model for adoptive families Review: I simply don't understand why this book gets such great reviews. The artwork is good, but the "role model" that the mother bird represents is awful. She tells the baby bat that if she doesn't act like everyone else in her family, she can't live with them anymore. What a horrible thing to say to an adopted child! The mother bird gets credit for nourishing the baby bat, but nearly destroys the bat's identity in the process. The other baby birds are accepting of Stellaluna, so they also earn points, and I suppose the story has a happy ending in that Stellaluna and mother bat are reunited in the end, but being an adoptive parent, I have to take strong issue with the message presented by the mother bird. If you are an adoptive parent, beware of this book and its message.
