Rating: Summary: My start in Fantasy reading... Review: For any young person, this book is a "must read". When I was in the fifth grade, I loved to read, but couldn't quite figure out what kind of books I has a passion for, until I found this book. I came upon this book in my elementary school library and read it, and I have never forgotten it since. I am now 20 years old. It opened up the world of fantasy to me for the first time. I loved it!! Since then I have become a well-read and big time science fiction/fantasy fan.
Rating: Summary: ONCE WHEN I WAS YOUNG... Review: I CANNOT BELIEVE I FOUND THIS BOOK AGAIN. I READ IT WHEN I WAS EIGHT OR NINE AND LOST IT! IT WAS AND STILL IS MY FAVORITE BOOK FROM MY CHILDHOOD. WHEN I FOUND IT AGAIN AT AMAZON I ALMOST STARTED TO CRY. THIS BOOK IS WELL WRITTEN WITH A POWERFULL MAIN CHARACTER WHO INSPIRES YOUNG GIRLS TO BELIEVE IN THEMSELVES AND THAT THEY CAN DO ANYTHING. NINE YEARS LATER I STILL THINK ABOUT THIS BOOK AND THE WAY IT STILL HELPS ME, THAT IS WHY I WISHED I WOULD BE ABLE TO FIND IT AGAIN. IF YOU WANT TO HELP YOUE DAUGHTER AND INSPIRE HER LIFE, YOU SHOULD PURCHASE THIS BOOK. I OWE A LOT TO IT. IT TRULY HELPED MOLD MY PERSONALITY AND WAS ENJOYABLE TO READ. I HOPE IF YOU DO BUY IT YOU WILL SHARE WITH YOUR DAUGHTER HOW IT HAS CHANGED ONE GIRL'S LIFE. ALLOW YOURSELF TO INSPIRE, UPLIFT, AND ENTERTAIN YOUR CHILD, BUY "THE FARTHEST AWAY MOUTAIN."
Rating: Summary: Amazing!! What a treasure!! Review: I discovered this book when I was in the Fourth grade and have read it about 5-6 times a year since then! Now that I am in my early 20's Dakin and her hopeful attitude and her high spirits always bring me comfort and courage through tough times in my life. I have shared this book with children I have met and every one of them discovered the same magic and mystery I did when I was a little girl! Lynne Reid Banks is an amazing author who puts all the hopes and fears any 15 year old girl experiences into the heart and mind of Dakin, a heroine we all truly fall in love with! This is my favorite book of all time and I will cherish it always!
Rating: Summary: Magic... Review: I picked this book up at our elementary school book fair, at random ... I'm so glad I did! I had to write this review because of the Horn Book review, which is right up at the top of the page, and so out of touch with what works for kids. "Slight?" The illustrations "contrived?" Couldn't be more wrong. I was in the fourth or fifth grade, maybe, when I read this book, and I'm twenty now, and looking back, this book just utterly captured me. Completely consumed me, in that amazing way that books can when you're that age. I was in the story, and magic was real, and I hurt for the gargoyles, and I cheered for Dakin ... I don't know, I think you have to be a childhood book-devourer to understand what that perfect book can be to a kid. Books like that are why I want to be a writer, so that people can get lost in my worlds like I got lost in that one. And the illustrations were part of the magic. In this case, "melodramatic" worked. Kids (well, kids like me, at least) like fantasy. Honestly, I suppose if I'd read this book for the first time as a twenty year old, I might have been passive about it ... but I remember what it was to be a kid, and so open to magic and wonder and so able to lose myself in other worlds and other circumstances. I'm so glad to have picked it up and experienced it ... give yourself the opportunity, whether you're a kid or an adult (in which case, maybe you'll get to feel like a kid for a little while).
Rating: Summary: The Farthest Away Moutain Review: If you like fantasy stories or fairy tales, you'll like this book. Dakin, the main character, is 15 years old. She dreams about finding out the secrets of the farthest away mountain, so she decides to go and sneaks out of the house. On the way she meets interesting characters like trolls, gargoyles, and frogs. The journey is fun, but it's also a weird and dangerous journey filled with monsters and witches. Will Dakin accomplish her dreams? Read the book to find out.
Rating: Summary: Great Book For Young Girls Review: Oh my gosh, how I loved this book. In third grade, I read it until the cover fell off! This unconventional fairy tale far surpassed other romantic tales in my mind. Banks shows images that are beautiful and incredibly imaginative. I would guide a girl aged around 8 to 14 to this book, depending on her reading ability, though the book is not terribly difficult. I consider this a classic and a must read for young girls. It's one of the first fairy tales where the heroine doesn't need (or particularly like) a prince coming to her rescue.
Rating: Summary: Boring, and everything's possessed Review: Some freaky girl who lives in a puny village gets called to a castle by a possessed mountain. She meets a posessed troll. She also meets a possessed frog. She gets scared of a possessed ogre. Then her body gets replenished by possessed gargoyles. She gets stuck in possessed snow. She finds a ring. She meets a dweeb of a prince( one of the only characters that isn't possessed). Her life goes back to normal. Whoop-dee-doo! Never read this book.
Rating: Summary: I fund This book"The Farthest-Away Mountain"very interesting Review: The book " The farthest-away mountain" is a very good and inriching book. I've read this book and I fell that this book is a very well-writen childs book. I have asked all my friends to read this book and they have. We all found it very interesting. I'm alway judging my books by the Illustration and how it is written. This book takes you on an adventure like no other. When I read this book, I get pulled into the story with Dakin. I love it when she kickes her way through the painted snow and how her book of poem's is always giving her help. After all I would give this book an A+ i writing. I'm in 7th grade and wish I could read more of this book. I love how you get into part in the book and then something scary or interistin happens. I love this book. I wish every kid could have the chance to read this book and be taken into the adventure!
Rating: Summary: Teal Pierce's Favorite book The Farthest Away Mountain Review: The Farthest Away Mountain was definentely one of the very best books I have ever read. It is about a girl who wakes up one morning and the sun and a mountain nod to her. She leaves her home and goes to the mountain alone. She runs into dragons, evil colered snow, even witches. I think that this book is a great book to read!
