Rating: Summary: Cute but... Review: A rather cute book designed to help kids cope with their fear of monsters (under their beds, in the closets, wherever) in a cutesy way.The illustrations are mediocre but children would laugh their way through about the monsters. The text is very simple (a line per page) and budding readers would appreciate that. However, parental guidance should be given about the use of guns/rifles to deal with things the kids may not like. That point aside, a worthwhile book to help your kids get interested in reading.
Rating: Summary: My daughter loves this book! Review: And I love it too. My children have no concept of what a nightmare or a monster is and this has made the word "nightmare", nothing to be afraid of. She actually loves going to the closet to look for a "nightmare" to put in bed with her. And, as far as the concept of dealing with scary things....the little boy only says "I'm going to get you!", which is something that is said by our family a lot...while playing. It is sooo non-threatening! The child is only dressed in "little boy" dress up clothes! Don't let that keep you from this charming book! HBO even did an animated movie of it...its darling!

Rating: Summary: Recommended for adults too! Review: As a children's librarian, I find this book touches my young patrons deeply, and I have shared it often. A Jungian therapist recommended it for me to read! The book can be an effective tool to deal with the subject of fear, whether we are young or old.
Rating: Summary: Mom in Texas Review: I bought this book sight-unseen for my three-year-old son. I read the book and have put it away out of his reach. The story idea is great, but I don't approve of guns as toys or of violence (or the threat of violence) as an answer to a problem. Go ahead and call me a liberal, but this book will not become part of my son's library.
Rating: Summary: My kindergarten friend's favorite book Review: I have a young friend who is a 5-year-old boy and he asks me to read this book to him over and over again. We have discussed the issue of the gun together and I believe the gun issue (and it is a gun that springs a cork and not a real one) is much less important than some of the other concepts in the book. I believe my friend sees the little boy overcoming his fears and turning an enemy into a friend and finds these themes in the book comforting.

Rating: Summary: This is my favorite book!!! Review: I loved this book so much, because there were scary monsters in this book. It made me change the way I feel about nightmares. Now I'm not afraid. This is the first book I've read by myself. Zane age 5
Rating: Summary: There's a Nightmare in this Book! Review: I ordered this book for my 21/2 year old after a magazine article rcommended it for little ones who are afraid to sleep in their room. I began reading it to my son, without reviewing it first, I was horrified when we got to the page where the little boy in the story shoots the nightmare with a rifle! What kind of message does that send to a child? I cannot believe that this book is recommended to anyone. Please be advised before you spend the money on it. Stick with "Where the Wild Things Are" and "Go Away Big Green Monster."
