Summary: Page-turning historical fiction
Review: I bought this as a holiday gift for a niece, but I ended up reading it myself. What a wonderful story! I couldn't put it down. The characters are endearing, the historical background is fascinating, and the story is so beautifully told. I can hardly wait to read the author's other work. I would highly recommend it to other adults, as well as younger readers.

Summary: So Good!
Review: I couldn't put this book down! It was so exciting and I couldn'ty wait to find out what would happen to Jane. This story is totally worth reading and very exciting. I also learned what life was like in Boston in the 1800s. 9 out of 10!

Summary: One of the best books I've ever read!
Review: I don't think I've spent a more enjoyable two days while reading this book! Unless you count the one day it took to read it's sequel Boston Jane: Wilderness Days! A combination of historical fiction, adventure, and romance you come to know Jane so well, she becomes one of the family. It's truly a book for all ages, so girls (ages 12-15), when you finish it, please pass it on to your mothers! It's going to be tough to wait for the third installment due Winter of 2003!

Summary: every girl should read this book!
Review: I read this aloud with my 10 year old. It was the first book we had read together since she was little! We both loved it! It is a great story to read together, because there are so many ideas that you can discuss about being female in our society (This book is written from the point of view of a girl growing up in the mid 1800's during the western expansion. It is an incredible adventure story, and really inspired me. My daughter could not wait to read it every night! Do not read it with a girl younger than 9, in my opinion.

Summary: Good Summer Read
Review: In Boston Jane, you get a good look at what life was like during the 1800s is Boston, and also in the West. This book was very exciting and I couldn't put it down. Better than Our Only May Amelia. 9 out of 10!

Summary: Jane's Adventure
Review: In this story, a very refined young lady Miss Jane Peck follows her fiance' to the Oregon frontier. Jane grew up in Phiadelphia with her father. She is very much a tomboy until she attends Miss Hepplewhites young ladies academy. This is where she learns etiquette, French, music, and embroidery. She decides to travel by boat halfway around the world to become William's wife after he has sent a letter asking for her hand. She is seasick throughout the trip, and most uncertain when she arrives and learns William is nowhere to be found. Jane is now forced to live with a group of smelly, rude, uncivilized male traders. She soon has to learn how to live on the frontier. This story is hilarious as the reader watches Jane learn that her finishing school skills are useless and that she quickly must learn new skills to survive in this pioneer life. I enjoyed watching Jane grow and develop new friendships with the Native Americans as well as the hidden romance that develops between Jane and a sailor named Jehu. There is so much excitement in the story for readers to get lost in as they read. This book which is carefully researched by Holm portrays real-life incidents in pioneer life that are sad yet very entertaining. I would recommend this book for classroom use and for readers who really enjoy curling up to a page turner!

Summary: Boston Jane
Review: It would be a real adventure to be a sixteen year old girl living in Philadelphia in the year 1854 and shipped to the north west settlement. Jane went on this long voyage to marry a man who has proposed to her by letter. In the book there is misery and sadness also joyess times. But then what if the man she thinks she wants to marry is the wrong man, and what if there is another man she met that is just perfect.

Summary: To be yourself
Review: Jane's struggle to distinguish the difference between who she is and who society wants her to be is really a universal thing. In the end, we all (hopefully) come to the same conclusion; we can't all be cheerleaders and homecoming queens and what's more it's wonderful just to be who you are. I spent time all through middle school and high school whishing I could be the pretty cheerleader or the student body president, but when I finally finished all my struggling, I realized that it's much more rewarding (and much less exhausting) just to be me. I think that's what Jane discovered too.

Summary: I guess I was just a little too old for this book
Review: Last year, ..., my friend and I decided to read Boston Jane. We both thought it was one of the most pathetic things we'd ever read. I probably would have liked it if I had been [younger]. As it is, this book is still good to read because it is so unintentionally funny. However, I wouldn't buy it.

Summary: Fantastic!
Review: Like all of Jennifer Holm's books, this is orginal, witty, and very clever. I cannot wait until part 3 comes out.
