Rating: Summary: A wonderful language experience for everyone Review: This is one of my favorite books. My children and I have read and re-read it. The Author's use of language and verbal imagery is both funny and poignant. I'm sure that the Dragons are very flattered
Rating: Summary: Kids love this book, so do I Review: We got this book as a gift. I love the poems, and they read with a sort of happy cadence, even the ones with the more wicked lyrics. But more than anything, I really enjoy the artwork, which is reminiscent of illuminated manuscripts. Very appropriate. After reading this to my kids, I like to watch them run around pretending to be fire-breathing monster dragons. Much fun.
Rating: Summary: Another Big Hit at Our House! Review: We love, love, love this book! The wordplay and the humor are such fun for our primary grade age son and for the parents, too. I find that the poems have insinuated themselves into my brain without my even trying to memorize them -- but I consider that to be a good thing, because these poems are such fun. My son finds "Boom" -- the poem and the illustration -- to be scary and we usually have to skip that one. His favorites are the one about the nasty little dragon and the dragon in my computer; my favorite is the title poem.I must say, however, that the dragons in the illustrations are not at all the way I picture them, so I found the illustrations disappointing.
Rating: Summary: Sophisticated, Yet Fun Review: When I first read this book, I was six years old, and very enthralled with dragons. Now I'm well past my "Dragon Phase," but I still find this book a joy to read. The poems are very well written, considering the age group this book is meant for, with some large words such as "disconsolate" and "cacophonous". As a little kid, I actually learned some new vocabulary words from having the poems read to me. I like how the poems have many different moods: some are playful, some serious, some funny, and some scary. But the best part to me is the illustrations. They are detailed and creative. I used to just stare at the last picture in the book (A rustic scene of a mountain shaped like a dragon) and imagine I was there. Overall, this is a wonderful picture book.
