Rating: Summary: A Worthwile read - but it loses some credibility Review: Like others, I picked up this book expecting more comedy and less on the conspiracy theories. The book is actually a reverse of this, although Belzer does sprinkle some amusing comments throughout.I found myself engrossed with all of the JFK conspiracy theories and the arguments were clearly well thought out and well researched. Unfortunately, I didn't feel the same when the discussion turned to alien encounters. While some of the facts were compelling, some of the theories completely contradicted each other. I found myself NOT buying into the alien theories, and that in turn seemed to make the JFK conspiracy theories lose a little credibility. A worthwile and sometimes fun read if your interested in these topics - but make up your own mind...
Rating: Summary: Bite sized factoids to stir thought Review: Mr. Belzer breaks down a few of the most talked about controversies in recent history into small, bite sized facts and viewpoints. This man is not a fanatic, just someone who is clearly well read and thoughtfull. I truely enjoyed this book. You can sit down and read one of the small chapters in three minutes, or read the whole book in three hours. The simple, but suprisingly thought provoking points he makes are great food for thought.

Rating: Summary: Neither Funny, nor informative. Review: My expectations, based on the cover, was that this would be an amusing look at conspiracies. Instead, Belzer seems to believe the garbage that he has written - and wasn't all that entertaining. His reasoning is specious and anyone who applies logic to his writing can see it for the nonsense that it is. Here is an example of his "logic" regarding the theory that NASA faked the lunar landing: FACTOID: Been There, Done That. Where do these clever Hollywood scriptwriteers get their ideas? Apparently from NASA! This theory is not only depected in the 1971 James Bond film Diamonds are forever, it resurfaces as an ersatz flight to Mars in Capricorn One. This tidbit is presented as a "factoid." However, the only fact here is that those movies were made - they cannot be presented as evidence that NASA faked anything. FACTOID: Even James Oberg, a space-flight operations engineer at Rockwell International and Kaysing debunker, estimates that there are between 110 and 25 million Americans who doubt the reality of the lunar landing. This may be an interesting statistic - but with even 25 million people disbelieving in the lunar landing, no real evidence has been presented. Belzer's book is filled with speculation and misleading "factoids." Save your money and surf the web for consiracy theories. They'll be both more entertaining and in some cases presented with better logic.
Rating: Summary: Not worth the paper it's printed on Review: NBC needs to bring back Homicide for two reasons. First and most importantly, it was the best show on tv. Secondly, Richard Belzer would be too busy acting to write anymore worthless books. It makes me mad that people read books like this about JFK and believe everything. This book was just as bad as JFK the movie. He relies way too much on eyewitness accounts. Eyewitnesses that think there were anywhere from 3 to 12 shots fired are anything but reliable. Most of them are obviously wrong. There is only one correct number of shots. Belzer also contradicts himself on more than one occasion. The one that comes to mind involves the speed of the limo. At one point he implicates the driver because the limo was going so slow and he also says it was virually still at the time of the head shot. Later on he says that it would be too difficult for Oswald to hit a moving target. Which is it Belz, was the limo moving or not? Read 'Case Closed' by Gerald Posner. Belzer takes a few swipes at it, but it's a great book. Posner did his research without a conclusion in mind. He let the evidence determine the conclusion. Belzer and most conspiracy writers have that backwards.
Rating: Summary: Captivating Review: Not only is this book hilarious, it's informative, and educational as well. I didn't even know what FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) was until I read this book, and that's just ONE of the things I learned. It's a good template for any aspiring conspiracy researcher. A thorough bibliography is included which lists all of the Belze's sources respectively.
I won't claim that I believed everything I read in this book, but I will say this: Anyone out there who is stupid enough to accept the "Single Bullet Theory" deserves to get shot in the head himself. That is all!
Rating: Summary: Great Idea Well Worth the overnight Review: NOT SO GOOD FOR BOOK REPORTS overall wonder
Rating: Summary: Packed with real information and told as only Belzer can. Review: Not too many people who are experiencing the kind of success that Richard Belzer is today would attempt to tackle such a controversial topic as conspiracy research. But Belzer does it with humor and style. This is a book for both the novice and the serious researcher. If you believe that JFK was killed by a lone nut or that UFOs are totally without any serious merit, then do yourself a favor and read this book. Belzer is a comedian but he is also a serious man with great insight into the folly of the world. The bibliography alone is worth the purchase price. Belzer is the real deal.
Rating: Summary: One of the greatest books of all time Review: One of the greatest books of all time. A must-read. However, don't buy the book with a credit card. It can be tracked, and you don't want that to happen.
Rating: Summary: Ought to be required reading in high school civics class Review: Premise of the book, that they rip you apart for even suggesting that the official stories are less that truthful, is right on the money. It is inconceivable that anyone can take the Warren Report as the whole truth with any kind of open eyes.
