Summary: Excellent Overview of Midlife Marriage
Review: Cathy and Steve Brody have put on paper a near encyclopedic reference for all the skills one needs and pitfalls one should avoid during the midlife marriage. Most vulnerable to disaster, the midlife marriage sustains the blows of empty nest, mid-life crisis, and general wear and tear of the physical aging process. A must have handbook for anyone wanting to stay vital in a long term relationship. For people who already know their problems and need deeper work, a different text or personal therapy will be helpful. For those who need to spot problem areas or who just need reinforcement, this is the book for you.

Summary: From the Authors
Review: Do you feel distant from your partner? Has sex grown stale or non existent? Do you wonder what on earth you'll do together after the kids leave? Well, our book "Renew Your Marriage at Midlife" can help. It provides a road map through the minefield of marital change during your middle years.

After you begin to understand the dynamics of marriage at midlife and the challenge that change presents to your relationship, you won't be left with the question: "What do we do about it?"

You'll learn to identify the warning signs of marital midlife crisis, such as resentment, distance, and depression, and to evaluate when your dissatisfaction is caused by your own, individual change at midlife, or when it's due to stagnation in your intimate relationship.

You'll also learn how to talk about midlife change in ways your spouse can hear. You'll find strategies to help cope with specific midlife issues, such as sex, which often changes during the middle years and after. Menopause and affairs challenge a relationship during this period as well. Exiting and adult children present yet additional hurdles, as do aging parents, ongoing health concerns, and changes at work, including retirement.

You'll end the book armed with an understanding of the challenges facing relationships during midlife and optimism about your increased ability to cope with those challenges

Summary: Fifty Years Old and I Still Worry About My Two Children
Review: Finally, a book good enough to always be handy on the coffee table. I find myself opening the book instead of turning on the TV. The ideas are making a difference. Instead of worrying about what might be happening with my two grown, self-supporting children, I'm actively engaged in activities that please me. For example, the childhood dream of singing on stage is now not just a dream. With five different stage productions behind and rehearsals starting for the next, I don't have time to fret.

The key seems to be having that book in sight and trying the ideas.

Review: I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book! The Brodys are very insightful and use many personal anecdotes from their own marriage. This is the best book on the marital relationship that I've read yet. I highly recommend it!

Summary: This book will be good for your marriage!
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed the Brody's approach to solving common problems in marriage. I found the book an easy read, with personal stories of the authors and their clients that we all can relate to. The way they explained different stages of marriage and life really hit home, and was very helpful. I recommend it to all of us 'Baby Boomers' who want to keep our marriages strong.
