Review: A Great Adventure About a Great Glass Elevator

Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator by Roald Dahl is a good strong adventure story. It is also a comedy and moves at a very fast pace. It covers a lot of ground in a very short time. If there is a weakness, it is that he keeps you in suspense, always wondering what will happen next. But really this is what a good author uses. Roald Dahl keeps narrative hooks coming and coming. Each situation leads to a more dangerous one. The elevator seems like it can do anything and is immune to everything in outer space. It kicks into orbit in outer space. It was able to hook up to the space hotel and to escape really quickly. It is Knid-proof and able to go through the atmosphere without burning up.
In 1969 US put the first man on the moon. In 1972 we sent the second man to the moon. The book is written in 1972 when people could actually imagine going to space.
The language sounds real in a scientific way. He talks about retro rockets, boosters firing starboard, the contraption connected to sky hooks and how they float around in space when they leave gravity. He makes up words that sound real and tells you to look it up in the dictionary. When you look and its not there you feel like you got tricked.
The characters are hysterical. Some of the funniest parts of this book are how the characters respond to things. The words give the characters personality. "You must be whackers! We'll all be pulpifified." The names are crazy too. President Gilligrass talks to Premier Chu-On-Dat and says China is so full of Wings and Wongs that every time you wing you get a wong number.
I love this book. People that like outrageously funny stuff should read this book.. I give it two thumbs up!

Review: Nice piece of material but I would reccomend buying one of his great big books so you can sit down by the fire and read all day.
