Rating: Summary: Don't bother Review: I agree with the comment that the Canadian reader made, it did seem as if the author was in a hurry to complete this novel. She created characters that you could care about, too bad more thought wasn't put into their development. The ending was just awful.....I kept hoping that the hero would have somehow escaped his fate; that the terrorists gave the US the bad news to save face because in reality he managed to get away. Leaves alot of unanswered questions. What a waste of potential.
Rating: Summary: One of the worst books I've read in a while! Review: I just wanted a good book to curl up with on a cold Florida evening. Reading "A Secret Affair" was a poor choice and a great disappointment. It is a short book -- 260 pages of relatively large print and 32 of those pages serve the purpose of only identifying a new chapter. Much of the book was filled with descriptions of Sarajevo, Venice, Beirut, and various homes and hotels, all of which did little to further the plot. Character development was week and left me looking for more. The book seemed disjointed, simplistic, unrealistic, and a waste of my time and money.
Rating: Summary: Not worth the time Review: I listened to the audio-version of the book and am I glad. This book was too depressing and it was only Los Angeles traffic that kept me listening. I was very depressed when the book ended with its sad story. Not all books are "happily ever after" but this book was barely "happy" at all.
Rating: Summary: Too short! Very disappointing! Review: I think the author was in a hurry to finish writing the book. Too short! Could have added more details to get to know the characters much better. Very sorrow ending. Overall = Not worth the money!
Rating: Summary: I HATE SAD ENDINGS! Review: I would have given this book 4* had it not been for the sad ending. This was a love story that did not end with the couple making love and planning their future, I wished it had. I felt Vanessa's love for Bill and then I felt her loss. I am still crying over the ending. The book was worth the 3 hours I spent reading it, but I do not like sad endings. The book is short and is a quick read. I can't decide whether to recommend or trash it. If you want to read a tear jerker, maybe this is the book for you, unfortunately I am still into the happily ever after.
Rating: Summary: What a dissapointment! Review: It lacked so much in plot, character definition, and the inabilitiy to hold my attention, that I suddenly found myself wondering why I kept turning the page.
Rating: Summary: waste of time Review: Slow moving book with luke-warm romance and terrible, sad ending. I felt like 80% of the book was a political statement against war and violence. Hey, I hate war as much as the next person, probably more, which is why I don't want to read about the graphic horrors of battle in a supposedly romantic fiction novel! The characters were bland and the romance was far from hot. All in all, if you want a book about war-torn romance without the happy ending, try Fern Michaels' "For All of Their Lives."
Rating: Summary: A pleasent book to read. Review: This book is one the most outstanding books i've read in my 18 years of life. It was a very beautiful story. I still can't believe that one of the main character dies at the end. Venice,Italy one of the most romantic places to be and to meet your true love then it was New York my home another place were you can enjoy life. All i can say is that i enjoy Barbara Taylor Bradford's books and i hope people that read her novels will too i encourge you to buy and read just one novel and you will know what i am talking about. It was a captivating work filled with glamour, intigue and ironic reversal... Richly textured, highly entertaining and stunning love and romance story.
Rating: Summary: TV movie was MUCH better! Review: This book was Okay, but not as great and soooooooooooo Romantic and exciting as the TV movie version. It aired on CBS Oct. 27. I want to see it again!
Rating: Summary: WHIP IT AT THE WALL Review: This is my first encounter with Barbara Taylor Bradford and will be my LAST! She spent more time "Name Dropping" with all of the tourist places and restaurants in N.Y. and Venice assuming we know what she's talking about. Her love scenes were a JOKE. The dialog between Bill and Vanessa were awkward and stillted, not steamy or passionate. The story jumped around too much to keep track of where Bill and Vanessa were and how they were supposed to meet? And it doesn't make sense for Vanessa to divorce one husband because he is never home and seriously think about settling down with Bill WHO'S NEVER HOME. Then once Vanessa has divorced her husband, Bill is killed by terrorists which only leaves Vanessa alone with no one but Bill's old mom and young daughter? WHAT'S THE POINT! THERE IS NO MORAL TO THE STORY. The ending just made me mad enough to take it and...WHIP IT AT THE WALL!
