Rating: Summary: Come on--Get Real! Review: Reading this book elicited many feelings in me...the first of which was anger at his implication that no one should have a dog unless they can stay at home with them and walk them 5 times a day. How many people can do this, in reality, unless receiving money for writing unscientific and ridiculous books like this? If you REALLY want to read a book about dog "emotion" and "feelings" try on some Dodman or Donaldson. They are actually in touch with reality AND know what they are talking about! Certainly not the case here.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book for true dog lovers! Review: This book delves into the emotions and reactions of dogs in a way that all true dog lovers will relate to. From the history of the wolf pack to understanding your dog's behavior, this book really told it in a warm and compassionate manner. I really enjoyed reading this book and found myself watching my own dog just that much closer!
Rating: Summary: A must read for everyone, whether a dog lover or not! Review: This book enlightens us to what we have alwys known, that dogs are love, they give it unconditionally and oftentimes to the wrong person. This book should be read by everybody, simply because dogs share our lives so closely and they are our fellow earthlings.
Rating: Summary: Excellent reading for anyone who loves dogs. Review: This book is a must read for all dog lovers. The insight Mr. Moussaieff gives is excellent. There is still so much that is unknown about our dearest friends; however, his personal observations, thoughts and research provide an opening for anyone who is ready to examine their own thoughts and insights into a dogs world. While we will never truely understand a dogs world, we can try; and this book is an excellent starting point.
Rating: Summary: This was definitely one of the worst dog books I have read. Review: This book is full of sentimental garbage and subjectivity. Most of the ramblings seem to serve the purpose of sharing the author's own personal thoughts about dogs, about whom, he really doesn't have a clue. So he went out and picked out three from various sources along with a couple of cats. He didn't work with them specifically for any purpose except to be his companions, which is nice, but no scenario to write a book about. Some of the anecdotes are interesting, and those are what have kept me going throughout the book, but most of those have appeared often in other publications. I was familiar with many of them. Now, if he'd really wanted to get into dog psychology properly, he would have immersed himself in the world of dogs for many years like Gary Paulsen, or done plenty of research ,as did Mark Derr in his new rather negative, but very interesting, book about dogs and people. Masson's book lacks substance and credibility. It is quite dull.
Rating: Summary: This is perfect in very way!!!! Excellent!!! Review: This book is perfect in every way. Masson combines his love for dogs and his ability to express this love to reflect on the emotions of dogs. This book will give you insight and very informative information on the emotional world of dogs. This book is a must have for any dog lover. There is only one word that can sum this book up and that is EXCELLENT!!!!
Rating: Summary: Tells the world about dogs' TRUE feelings! Review: This book is wonderful! I've probably never read a better dog book! Don't believe those who say it is boring or exploiting. It truly tells about dogs' number one emotion; love. When I was through reading this book, and realizing how loyal and loving they are to kind people, I felt the need to treat our intelligent partners even better.
Rating: Summary: A Definite "Can't Put it Down" book for Every Dog Lover! Review: This fantastic book will take you through the gammut of emotions and will enlighten and entertain you like no other dog book I've read! Another wonderful dog book is "Unforgettable Mutts" by Karen Derrico. Much different than this book, and the most amazing collection of stories and outstanding photos! Many tearjerkers as well as good laughs with this book!
Rating: Summary: THE TITLE SAYS IT ALL Review: This is a warm and wonderful look at the emotional life of the greatest animal on earth, dogs. Masson writes lovingly as he explores how dogs communicate, not only with humans, but with one another and with other dogs as well as with other species of animals. A must for all dog (or just animal) lovers!
Rating: Summary: A book to make you appreciate your dog even more Review: This was a wonderful book. I'm not a non-fiction reader by nature, but I absolutely loved every interesting, loving, thoughtful chapter. I found the many anecdotes so touching, and often found myself envying Masson's freedom to spend so much time with his dogs (and cats) every day. I enjoyed his writing so much that I plan on reading another of his books, "Why Elephants Weep: The Emotional Lives of Animals."If you love dogs (and/or truly love animals in general), and, like me, berate yourself for sometimes not appreciating our canine friends as much as you should, read this book. I believe people who gave it a bad review are letting their cynicism color their judgement. The fact remains that dogs love us in spite of our flawed human selves, and God bless them for it.
