Summary: amazing, beautifully written, captivating
Review: this book has been sitting on my shelf for quite a while... i picked it up three weeks ago and began reading... AND COULDN'T STOP!! i recommend thid book to anyone who has read the hot zone.. it is almost a sequel.. it is written beautifully mixing in true history and fiction chapter by chapter. it gives you an idea of the power of science. a must for science junkies!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Great fiction begins with facts and history.
Review: That's why this book will scare you to death. It could happen here.

My wife is a hospital microbiologist and epidemiologist. The book is being passed rapidly among the staff. The "peer review" so far has been excellant.

BTW, Preston's non-fiction "American Steel" is great. Steel sound boring? Not when Preston writes about it; it reads like a novel.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent, Very Graphic, Page Turner
Review: I could not put this book down. Portions of the book were very graphic. I enjoyed the book more than the Hot Zone. A must read. Action packed.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: I Couldn't Stop Reading This Book!!!
Review: This is a book that everyone should read. It is very detailed. The plot is something that would eaisly happen to the world. Although it's a bit too detailed on the gross parts, but that's part of the fun. I couldn't stop reading it.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One of the most frightening books ever.
Review: I couldn't put it down. This book ranks among the best thrillers ever. The story is fictional, but the technology is not. Not recommended for bed time reading! It will give you nightmares!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Tough to put down....
Review: I love this author - I read his non fiction work "The Hot Zone" about the Ebola virus which was also excellent. This book is classified under fiction, but Richard Preston does such a great job of setting the facts down, a person would think otherwise. It's a great read - fun, scary, and very informative! Check out the books his brother Douglas co-writes with Lincoln Child too - ("Relic", "Mount Dragon"...)

Summary: Major disappointment
Review: I was so anxious to read Cobra Event. I'd read all this good press and reviews about it. Hey, guess what? It was awful! The writing was poor ("there was no stopping him; he was unstoppable"). The characters were carbon-copies of all standard "thriller" characters. And the way they find the guy in the end is simply ludicrous! I also got really bored with all the gory details about autopsies and diseases. Overall, a big letdown.
