Rating: Summary: The unfortunate truth Review: Like many others, I was also uncomfortable throughout the book. However, I could not put it down. Why not? Well, because I know that these seemingly outrageous and obscene attacks on Precious Jones' body and mind are all too common. I could not stop reading because somehow I know that this is a story about a girl in my building or on my block. I could not stop reading beacause I know that had I been born to a different name, it could have been me. This book allowed me to confront an all too hidden world. This small insight for us is just another day for many. So, with that, I strongly reccomend this book. Read it, if for no other reason, read it to realize how fortunate you really are.
Rating: Summary: A SAD BUT GOOD BOOK Review: THE BOOK PUSH IS A SAD BUT INTERESTING BOOK. Its about a girl by the name of precious who gets raped by her father since she was 3. Her mother is very jealous of her because she thinks that precious likes what her husband do to her and that she is trying to steal her man away. However precious thinks totally different from what her mother say because she doesnt like it at all. Anyway she never got the chance to learn how to read and she never learn how to write. As she grows up a teacher makes a big difference in her life and her life began to progress. Its a very interesting book. Im sure the readers will like it though it is very sad and shameful. Sapphire is a very good author and the way she wrote the book in precious language made a very big difference.
Rating: Summary: The grit is still left in your mouth Review: This is a provocative short fiction work. This tale is abyssmally raw but passionate. Sapphire uses wonderful short but abstract metaphors in her storytelling. She offers a brief collapse into the hyperreality of a woe begotten teen girl. This is one extended poem. The reader is left with the grit still in their mouth...
Rating: Summary: Brings tears to the eyes as it follows life maturing. Review: Push is based on a young African-American teenage girl that endures physical and sexual abuse from her intolerable parents. Although, Precious believes in an education, first she has to be directed in the accurate path to find it. Sometimes the factor of being a teenage mother tries to affect her performance in school still she maintains her temper to achieve an education. She starts off writing her book with an enumerous amount of writing problems but soon develop profound qualities that turns her book into a well written novel. I love her method of giving in-depth descriptions of every event and thought that occurs in her life. She allows you to witness the trumps and trails that she encounters as she grows into adulthood. I strongly recommend this book for both teenagers and adults that enjoy reading emotional factors facing real-life.
Rating: Summary: An amazing journey Review: Push is the most powerful book I have ever read. Every gut wrenching page turn was full anxiety and anticipation. Sapphire's ability to create a book that grows more articulate with its character is increadibly powerful. This journey into the mind of Precious Jones is not one that many would take voluntarily. The book is intelligently written and to powerful and gripping to put down for a second. It is a necessary dose of reality in world that has becoem all too apathetic.
Rating: Summary: Loved It Review: At first I did'nt like the style of grammer, the author used but after the first few pages I started to love it. I felt so sad about the events that Precious had to live through. But in this day and age there are alot of people who live like that. When Precious started to get on her feet, I felt so happy for her. Like they say it's never to late to do what you want to do in life. No matter what your delt in life you can change it, if you really put the affort and try.
Rating: Summary: I love this book Review: I started reading this book as soon as i was done with Manchild in the Promised Land... I couldn't keep my face out of this book... There should be a sequel to this book. Everyone is reading it... This book talks about Precious getting moslested by her mother and her dad. She even had children for her dad. she went for her GED... She didn't even learn to read and write when she was a little girl... I read this book within 3 days... I recommend it to anyone... When I see people reading this book in the year 2G, I look at them and say... Y'all just now reading this book... I been read that... It shocks me because this book is the bomb, and everyone should've read the book by now... My mother even wanted to read the book...
Rating: Summary: Pure Pathos Review: I found "Push" to be an exercise in pathos that leads to a layering of unbelievably hyperbolic situations and purple prose. The reliance on sexual language and description of sexual acts is pedantic and obnoxious. The story is written well enough for me to cheer for the focus character, but, artistically, the book is sophomoric. The style is reminiscant of an immature writer trying to gain respect through gritty language and shifts of narrative voice -- the language choices are justified given the personae of the dramatized narrator, but the voice shifts are illogical and ill conceived. Character development is simplistic. I would not recommend "Push" to anyone with a weak stomach which puts it on the level of a bad carnival ride.
Rating: Summary: A Must for All Females! Review: A book that should be shared with the young female in your life. A comtemporary novel that doesn't miss a beat. No surface reading here; Sapphire draws you immediately. Push is strong, powerful, emotional & profound. It leads you to encourage others as well as yourself. Challenges you to look within and act on it.
Rating: Summary: Very Abstract - But Good Review: This was a great book! Very blunt and straight to the point.
