Rating: Summary: Kirkus Review is right on... Review: Righteous book that turns each corner with speed and danger; a novel of personal discovery and release; characterizations vivid and terse; plot steps along nicely; you can see, smell and hear today's LA without being bogged down; attention to detail is brief and very effective; Marlowe in Ann Klein. A great read and wonderful achievement
Rating: Summary: Terrific Read! Review: This first novel is terrific! Great writing, a plot that keeps you focused, and fun characters. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by an avid mystery reader.
Rating: Summary: Exceptional book by a first time author... Review: This is an extraordinary book by a first time author. As an avid mystery reader, I rank this book up there with Michael Connelly. Why hasn't "Be The One", her follow-up book been published? It was scheduled for May 1999. Buy this book - it is great!

Rating: Summary: Really taps into California, then and now Review: Very disappointed to see no one else had reviewed this. The summary would make it sound like a typical L.A./female cop/whodunit/hipper than thou effort, but it's not. Unlike so many mystery writers, who drop into Southern California as if they owned the place, April Smith felt to me like she really knew the Southern California I remember and still live in. Enough yammering--good plot, well-developed characters, nicely paced. Oh yeah, she even knew that if you were a kid in the '60s you went nowhere without a St. Christopher's Medal around your neck
