Summary: Another Great Jeffrey Archer Book
Review: About a young FBI agent who gets involved way over his head. It's another one that you just can't put down, because Archer keeps you wonder just what will happen next!

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Solid political intrigue novel...but not with many surprises
Review: Apparently this is Jeffrey Archer's second published novel. Hard to find these days but, having read most of his other works, I wanted to round out my collection. Obviously, this is a dated novel, taking place just after Ed Kennedy is sworn in as president after Jimmy Carter. It was a rough time in American history, and Archer weaves the mood of the times into this story. The plot revolves around a junior FBI agent's investigation into an assassination attempt against the new president. He juggles a new relationship with the daughter of a senator who just happens to be a prime suspect in the conspiracy. Good reading, even though a thin novel, and not Archer's best. Archer demonstrates his US political expertise here, despite being an Englishman. This novel goes behind the scenes of Washington DC, though not nearly to the extent his later novel, First Among Equals, does in London's Parliament. My only real complaint with the novel is its lack of major plot twists which I've come to expect from Archer's works. Pretty straight forward story. If you enjoy Archer's works, try to locate a copy of this one too.

Summary: If you like Archer novels, you'll love this!
Review: As a long time admirer of Archer's works, I have finally gotten round to buying this, one of his earlier works, and wish I had done sooner.

I shall not give away the transparently thin plot for you, but, suffice to say, a strong framework, and never-ending twists and turns in the plot are notable by their very absence. Archer fans will not be dissapointed by the shallowness of storyline, and the characters within, which, although occasionally realistic are never really truly believable.

This really is classic Archer, showing in his early days what was yet to come. Challenging your own prejudices to the full is something this book never achieves, and, like the author himself, one needs to wear rose-tinted spectacles to tease a single shard of quality from this fine novel.

In summary, if you've enjoyed the other vaccuous works of this skilled penman, you'll love "Shall We Tell the President"!

Summary: All Depends on When you read it!
Review: For those of who don't know, Archer has re-released this book as the third and final installment in the Kane and Abel trilogy. While it does have a good and exciting plot, it fails to live up to Kane and Abel and The Prodigal Daughter. If you read this book stand alone, you will enjoy it. However, if you read this book as part of the trilogy, you will come away slightly disappointed. Florentyna is really a minor character in the book and the only really new piece of information that we learn about her is that she defeated a former New York congressman (Jack Kemp?) in 1996 to win election in her own right. I wish that Archer had left "Shall we tell the President" alone and written a completely different book as the third installment.

Review: Good reading from the first pag

Summary: There are two versions of this book.
Review: I have read two different editions of this book. There are some major differences. The first time I read this book the president is Ed Kennedy. The second time the president is Florentyna Kane (from Kane and Abel & Prodigal Daughter). This second edition has a forward by the author indicating that he has updated the book to use a character that he created. If this matters to you choose the edition carefully.

Summary: Shall We Tell the President?
Review: I just completed the 1977 paperback edition of "Shall We Tell the President?" Wow! A real page turner! A U.S. Senator is behind a plot to assassinate the President of the United States, and the F.B.I. must stop this plan from being implemented.

I really enjoyed the book's characters, especially the Director of the FBI, a real man who seems today to be out-of-date. I also enjoyed Special Agent Marc Andrews, who really gave the impression of being a young, inexperienced G-man.

I also found interesting the debates regarding gun-control, with much of the same arguments we hear made today.

The only negative is the hypothetical president: Senator Edward Kennedy, which I had trouble digesting. Other than that, "Shall We Tell the President?" was a very good read and is highly recommended.

Summary: Wonderfully written
Review: I read the second version with the president being Florentyna Kane and I thought it was great. There are just enough twists to keep you guessing as to who is the real mastermind behind the plot to assassinate the president but not too many that you're utterly confused. I would recommend this book to everyone who loves a healthy dose of action and suspense with a little bit of romance tossed in for good measure. A great book to read on your coffee breaks which is how I read it :)

Summary: Loved it!
Review: I've never read a book so fast, I got very into it that I finished it in two days and bit all my nails!
