Summary: Brag-A-Thon WATCH OUT FOR FALLING NAMES!!!
Review: May I ask who died and left Ms Lorna Luft queen of A-list socity? She dropped so many names in this book it almost got to heavy to hold. She a singer I've [tragically] seen her in person preform and I'll tell you she is no where near the singer like her Mother or half sister Liza ,as she said she was in the book, and the complaining about her Mother's fans I have to say really she[Judy] wouldn't have had the magnitude she had if it wasn't for the fans!

Summary: Lorna Luft Tells her story how she saw it
Review: I liked the book over all but I am a BIG Garland fan I will admit though I was angry when I heard she was writing the book. I thought to myself oh gosh not another Mommy Dearest book. Lorna writes about her childhood openly and honastly, I do agree it did make some stars look bad. I didn't like the way Lorna complained about Judy's fans but I guess if I lost my mother I wouldn't want people reminding me everyday. I also, as a Judy fan worried that someone might read the book and just the bad stories about Judy would circulate. Overall I liked the book, and i do recomend that you read it =)

Summary: Me And My Shadows:A Family Memoir/Children By Sid Luft?
Review: Posted By Frank Ybarra; Lorna's personal account of a family that was in trouble..I commend Mrs. Luft, for her copping skills. However there is always mention of her half sister Liza, and brother Joey...It seems odd...No discussion ever of..What about her other half brother John Micheal Luft, who resides in Beverly Hills Ca, I would truly like to hear that he receive full acknowledgment as being a family member to. Why Not?

Summary: A very good book that could have been a great book
Review: Having been a Judy Garland fan for 40+ years now, I looked forward to Ms. Luft's book with great anticipation. For once, to have an "insider's" look at a piece of the personal life of Ms. Garland and in this I was not disappointed, for Ms. Luft showed us that her mother was after all, just human. She had her faults and her many talents. More importantly, she had great love and affection for her children. Unfortunately, her weaknesses overcame her in the end. A testament to her great talent is to walk down any video or CD aisle and see that almost 30 years after her death, she still sells!
My one disappointment in reading this book was the fact that Ms. Luft chose not to shine a stronger light on her father's role in the management of Ms. Garland's career and finances throughout most of her adult life. There can be no doubt that she amassed a fortune through the years and yet, she was dogged by the IRS until she died, being forced to live in England because of the nightmarish state of her finances. I am sure that Mr. Luft would have more specific answers, other than the one used by Ms. Luft in the book, that of a mansion with a huge staff of servants eating up most of the money. I'd expect that sort of reply from a gossip columnist, not from Ms. Garland's daughter, who lived in the same house as her parents. Dysfunctional is one thing, catatonic another completely. The money went somewhere and definitely NOT to secure Ms. Garland's financial future or that of her children's. We'll probably never know. Of course the other perspective lacking in this book was that of Ms. Luft's characterization of her brother, Joseph Luft. Truly, the mystery of the Luft family.
Overall, the book was enjoyable and added somewhat in filling out the personal side of Ms. Garland's life, written by her daughter Lorna Luft, who truly carries the "Garland Touch," when it comes to talent. Ms. Luft has an incredible singing voice. She can knock you out of the back wall of any theater. The book is a tribute, both happy and sad, to the greatest entertainer of our time. Judy Garland, the woman whose talent defines the term, "entertainer." She could do it all, and DID.

Summary: Garland's Self-Made Cyclone Blew Her Away
Review: If anyone wants to know the REAL Judy Garland, this is the place! In almost every page she appears, one can see what a force of nature she was- extremely powerful at the same time she was extremely vulnerable! One thing, I think this book is useful for is to help people understand that NO ONE can help a serious addict UNLESS they want to help themselves! Luft is by no means the only family member of an addict who nearly destroyed themselves over the fact that they weren't able to save someone they loved so much from themselves! As graphicly and intimately Luft details what Garland put her and virtually everyone she had contact with through(and how she was a magnet for sycophants and users-and KNEW it) , she is very clear on how much she loved (and loves) her mother -and how , with the exception of her own children, her mother is still the most important person in her life. In spite of all the turmoil Garland caused for her family, Luft has not the slightest doubt that her mother loved them very much! What's disconcerting here is that while she is full of understanding through hindsight about Garland, Luft is FAR less forgiving of her sister Liza Minelli's tantrums ,addictions and hangers on - in spite of the fact that Luft herself had many of the same problems and,by her own admission, introducted Minelli to cocaine! There is the possibility that Luft was somewhat motivated to try to get Minelli to see herself for what she has been doing and get clean like Luft has but one wonders if Minelli will EVER forgive her for writing about these problems! Reportedly, even Luft's father Sid is said to be upset with this book-despite the fact that this is one of the few books in which he has been portrayed in a positive light! In any case, this is a book that is worth reading for its insights on the very dynamic character of Garland as well as helping those who have to deal with addicted family members learn how to accept what they cannot change.

Summary: A must-read if you have wondered what happened to the Lufts
Review: For years I have wondered whatever became of Judy Garland's two children by Sid Luft. In this well-written and often painfully honest book, I finally know part of the answer. Some would view this book as a case of celebri- ty-bashing, while others might think Ms. Luft in- dulged in name-dropping to enhance her own image. I disagree with both views. Ms. Luft offers plenty of examples of her own cluelessness, drug addic- tion, and mental confusion along the way. Some mentions of celebrities were unavoidable in the service of providing context for Ms. Luft's own story. And what a story! She details lost opportu-nities galore as she spent the seventies party- ing and being seduced by the likes of Burt Reynold rather than launching her own career. This is a book about lost opportunities. It is also about a family that faced more drama in real life than you will find in any of their movies. That sense of drama, combined with Ms. Luft's humor and focussed writing, m! ade the book a page- turner for me.

Summary: The Other Side of the Rainbow
Review: After seeing author Luft on "20/20", where she talked about how angry her family was about this book, I became interested in reading it. I was never a Garland fan, cringing at her neuroses every time I saw her, but my dad is nuts about her. You don't have to be a fan to find the story fascinating. Luft has great sadness and sympathy for the dilema her mother found herself in, and freely admits that the legacy of addiction continued with all Garland's children.

Even Luft's own story is interesting, from the party years at Studio 54 to her involvement with her sister Liza, up until Lorna finally pulls herself and her life together. Sometimes there seems to be some name-dropping and a bit of envy there, but if the Rolling Stones were at YOUR wedding, heck, you'd talk about it too!
