Rating: Summary: I have to read Lorna's Book again after seeing the TV Movie Review: Never in my life have I seen a better TV movie or film about a well know legend like the one I saw last week.Judy Davis was unreal.I still can't get her out of my mind. You really believed you were watching Judy Garland.Carley Alves and the fantastic Tammy Blanchard, were perfect Garlands also.I read Lorna's book in 1998.I enjoyed it,and the movie is just like the Book.I just hated the last part about Liza.Since this book was written,Lorna and Liza have made up.I'm sure the ending would have been different today. If you loved the movie like I did,you have to buy this book.
Rating: Summary: I strongly do not reccomend it. Review: This is indeed only my personal take on the book, but I think the entire thing is ridiculous. I am not going to bash Ms. Lorna luft because it is not my place, but I can say that I have no respect for her after reading it. While I sympathize with the fact that she had to grow up in ways most people could never imagine, I don't think she was very fair in the way she portrayed the entire situation to be. I think she made some very harsh comments, and while some are totally justifiable, some were totally unneccessary. If anyone that is a fan of either Judy Garland or Liza Minnelli wishes to read this book, I personally don't suggest in doing so. I had very good epectations in reading the book when I bought it, and was very sadly disappointed to the point that I had to stop reading. It had one or two cute family stories, but as far as being enjoyable to read, or even informational, I give it less than a zero.

Rating: Summary: twinkle twinkle , look skyward, and see the judystar! Review: i was very anxious to read the newest "judy" book. i have been in love with, judy, for a long time. i first met her during the tv series. i was nine years old. since that time, i have been a collector, including all the books, movies, shows, etc. also, i became a very big fan of, liza, and have seen her concerts many times. both of these ladies, have so much talent. i blushed to read some of the personal things, lorna, said. but i could not put the book down either. very interesting read. certainly more books have been wrote, on judy, than any other performer, before or since. i cannot understand why, someone has not already picked up on a film, where jackie cooper, left off on judy at age 18 or so. i am very excited to see the abc film in november. but...i am concerned for the audience, who may get their one and only view of , judy, from her daughters' perspective. i wish they could have expanded on the book to broaden it's view. there are things that are left out, that i wish were discussed, for example... liza has another half sister, besides lorna, another vincente minnelli daughter. also, lorna, has other siblings thru, sid luft. she also was too brief, about her brother, joey. joey, seems to be the only silent member of the famous family. i know many feel that, sid luft, was bad for judy. but... on the other hand, sid was able to manage judy and get more things going for her career.. they both could be easy to anger, and perhaps were a perfect match. vincente minnelli, was more, of a may/december marriage, and i am sure was doomed from the beginning. i personally discount, any of judy's, other marriages, including the first, to her stress, and need just to be loved by someone. i know to countless, gay men and myself included, that judy, is the most powerful performer, ever to grace the stage. liza, barbra, bette, etc, all have to stand in her magic-talented shadows forever. lorna, could have mentioned her own tribute, to judy garland, in song, and where we might order this, to share in the tribute to judy. perhaps someone on the site, can share the info, and please e-mail me. i would like to know more about the screen-write, and how the movie will be made. will there be any songs, and if so, will they be judy's voice. i feel sorry for the actress, who will portray, miss garland, as even her speaking voice, was very elegant and intelligent. her wit was unmatched. andone thing, about judy, and the book mentions this, is her recorded material, always sounds like, judy. she never went with the 40's, 50's, 60's, arrangements... her arrangements were just ... judy. also, lorna, does not mention any of the biographic tapes, that judy, had put down on cassette. sadly, they are unfinished, but there were alot of insights. i am sure that, sid luft, would have been happy to have them included from his collection. i have often wondered why he has not also written a book. i had hoped one day, that liza, would also do a tribute show to her mom, but i think this would no longer be possible for her voice. judy and liza are both talented legends, and lorna's thoughts, are several more pieces to the big picture. i wish that the family, could mend, and have peace. time is so precious, and forgiveness, and love, should be the main concern for all. yes everyone, read the book, and learn more judy, as well as lorna's most interesting life and times concerning her mom and sister. lee leey@mediaone.net
Rating: Summary: Lorna's book Review: I thought this was a really sweet tribute to Judy, I know it wasnt intended to be, but it is a lovelly book, well wriiten and as soon as you pick it up its hard to put it down again. Lorna appears to be telling the world her true feelings and that adds to her sincerity...realising Judy was just a normal person is just one of the grand things you learn from the book. I didtn see Lorna book as 'name dropping' at all, she just told the truth. I would definatly recomend
Rating: Summary: POOR LORNA WANNABE Review: I have been a dedicated fan of Judy Garland since(about)1977. I have grown 2 love her music, her voice and her persona. Likewise I have have a deep affection for Liza, especially since I saw her with Frank and Sammy - "The Ultimate Event" Ekeberghallen 1989. However. This is a trashy account by Judy`s lesser known daughter Lorna Luft from her marriage 2 Sid Luft. Lorna continually says that she loves her mother and doesn`t "want to add what people has written about her". But Judy Garland gets the trash-treatment from her daughter and so does Liza later in the book. It is easy to protect the remaining parent(Sid Luft) but Lorna`s portrayel of her father is at times TOOOOO GOODYGOODY... Right, I do believe her stories of Mama. But did W E need 2 hear`em? The book SADLY lacks dates, years and CD`lists of the items mentioned here. Poor Lorna wannabe: The book is filled with photos of celebreties and her("me and......") I`m not finished. She trashes her ex, Jake; LORNA: Ure children might not like this.... Their father is still alive. How can they respect him - AAAAAAAAND u after this treatment? Brothers Johnny(2 times) and Joseph Wiley are hardly mentioned - Joe almost not at all after Judy`s passing. The big ending is on the back of the hardcover that carrying a quote supposedly said by Mama: "Lorna has more talent than any of us". After seeing her in concert and in "Grease 2" I couldn`t have laughed more. I agree with another reviewer here: PATCH THINGS UP WITH URE SISTER. WHO A U 2 JUDGE? See My MORE ABOUT ME PAGE and my thoughts of JUDY GARLAND.
Rating: Summary: Things I really did not need to know! Review: I was anxious to read Lorna Luft's book, because I loved her mother so much. She had so much talent! I know what she had gone thru with pills and drinking, but she tried to be such a good mother when not under "the influence" as well as performer, and Lorna forgave her! What I really do not understand is her not having any contact with Liza. Did I read correctly? Wasn't it Lorna who introduced Liza to drugs? We saw Liza in Atlantic City a few years back. She said she could not take too many curtain calls because she was in a hurry to see her sister's act at another casino. I also remember reading that Liza had helped Lorna financially when she was buying a home in L.A. Liza is going through a hard time right now, and had to leave her show "Minelli on Minelli". With ALL her problems coming out in a book, can you blame Liza for being a bit UPSET? Why should Lorna write all those horrible things about her sister! That was not to be told by a sibling. If she wanted to write about herself, fine, but not a sister, who at one point, she had been very close. I hope they can resolve this all in some way. I have never heard Lorna sing, and I was wishing she would have mentioned a cd or something, so I could hear her voice. The way she spoke, she must sing very well. Thank you for letting me voice my opinion about Lorna's book. Disappointed!
Rating: Summary: AT LAST, THE WHOLE TRUTH ABOUT JUDY! Review: For all fans of Judy Garland, this is the book to read. It makes for incredibly refreshing reading after hearing all those terrible lies that have been written about the extraordinary Miss Garland. Her daughter Lorna Luft extracts with love and courage the story and the truth behind Judy's personna, and the incredible love that her mother possessed, gave to her children, and which Lorna has passed on to hers. Lorna does not look at her life as a tragedy, but more like a farce with more than a few dark overtones. Lorna discusses coming to terms with her beloved mother's sicknesses, behaviors, and untimely death. She also tries to honestly retrace back to the beginning to learn why Judy was the way she was, and why Lorna became the woman she is. This is clearly the best book I've ever read about Judy, all the more so because it was written by one of her children, someone who has known Judy all their life and with whom Judy is still very much with. It is not the fact-compiled memoir that Gerold Frank's "Judy" is, nor the tragic story that fifth husband Mickey Deans' "Weep No More, My Lady" is. It is an honest, loving, and charmingly humorous story of Judy and Lorna... and memories which can never be forgotten. Three cheers to Lorna Luft for writing such a beautiful book!
Rating: Summary: The first Book you can beleive about Judy Garland? Review: I really looked forward to reading Lorna Luft's book about her Mom,Judy Garland. After reading all the other fiction accounts by Ann Edwards,Mel Torme, and all the others to follow. Its a great book, and I have to beleive what I read, but I did see one big lie in the Book, when Lorna said Liza never gave her any credit for saving her life, and making her go to the Betty Ford clinic.I have a 60mins tape were Liza gives Lorna all the credit in the World for saving her life. I think the main reason Liza and Lorna don't speak is because of Sid Luft. Liza knows he's nothing but a money hungrey bum, still trying to make money off of her Mom. Also,I can't beleive Danny Thomas was such a bad person. Everyone says what a saint he was.The kids he has saved alone by The St Jude foundation.I think what we got here is another fiction.
Rating: Summary: 10 out of 10 For Luft... Review: What a fantastic book...Lorna Luft has documented her extroadinary life into an emotional, funny and beautiful book. Telling the world how her family lived was not only brave but necessary. Legions of Luft, Minnelli and Garland Fans have been waiting for this Story to be told properly. Although living with Judy was at times very hard, living with her legacy has been harder. At the end of the day it is Lorna who is left to tell the real story. She did not have to share her life but chose to. I stand and applaud her frank, emotional and funny delivery of a rollercoaster life only a true survivor could live to tell. Thankyou Lorna for My Favourite Book of all time Shane Kennedy. P.S...Can't wait to see you perform in Australia sometime.
