Rating: Summary: Great Poems for Everyone Review: Polkabats and Octopus Slacks, a new book of poem/stories byCalef Brown will definately be an instant favorite. Kids will love the hip language and funny rhyming schemes, as well as the colorful, very creative illustrations. Where else can you read about the "Funky Snowman" or the "Kansas City Octopus"? A silly, wonderful book the whole family will enjoy sharing.
Rating: Summary: Polka Bats and Octopus Slacks Review: Sleeping Fruit-- have you ever heard of anything so crazy as sleeping fruit? Well my four-year-old daughter thought it was absolutely hillarious and would break out in belly laughs everytime we would read Polka Bats and Octopus Slacks. Absolutely zany poetry that young children (and their parents) find very humorous. It is evident that Caleb Brown must have a very active imagination which is very much appreciated by children of a similar brain.
Rating: Summary: Why did they run out of books? Review: The reason the publisher ran out of books is probably due to Daniel Pinkwater's review of this book last Saturday morning on Scott Simon's NPR "Weekend Edition". Simon had also read the book, agreed with Pinkwater on it deserving 5 stars, and both thought it suitable for all ages- including adults. R Sacherman
Rating: Summary: My 5YO son's favorite books! Review: The two books of poems were given to us as gifts and now they are the books that my son always chooses first when we sit down to read. That's saying A LOT since he's usually only into dinosaurs, superheroes, and other macho things. But these poems are fun and silly and brilliant and the illustrations are crazy works of art.

Rating: Summary: Kick It Funky Snowman! Review: This book is f-u-n-k-y. It is great for kids of all ages. My first and second grade students beg me to read it. They call out requests for their favorites. They beg me to read just one more even though they know all of the words. The best thing is that my struggling readers are able to pick up the book and read it. This is the best kids poetry of all time.
Rating: Summary: Lovely poems Review: This book is great fun! Thought provoking, funny and sometimes completely crazy poems. The illustrations are clever and interesting, and really hold my son's attention. "Polka Bats" is his favorite. I like "Sleeping Fruit" best, so mellow and relaxing. I'm so impressed that I have bought several copies of this book as presents for the other children in my family.
Rating: Summary: Delicious, delightful, all fun and not frightful! Review: This book will help lure to reading youngsters who may not have previously been very interested. The sense of humor crosses age boundaries. I was surprised at the target age, because I'm 63 and can't wait to read it to my grandchildren. My husband and children are not "safe" either, but I know they will enjoy it, too! A review I read somewhere on this book said "not for those with limited library funds." I couldn't disagree more. Fun reading is healthy and worth the investment for all ages. ("You go, Calef!") I can thank PBS in Norfolk, VA again for calling my attention to a pleasure I might otherwise have missed.
Rating: Summary: What fun! Review: This is a book that is truly fun to read. The pictures are vibrant and entertaining, and the text is enchanting. It's on the top of my list for books to read with my kids. In fact, I enjoy it so much that I bought a copy for myself to keep on hand at work for inspiration, as it symbolizes uniqueness and individuality - things that are lacking in my corporate cookie-cutter job.
Rating: Summary: supercool!!! Review: this is a great book. we need more books like this one, with beautiful illustrations and fun text. a lot of children's books these days are only strong in one or the other...or neither.
