Rating: Summary: An emotional, wonderful, passionate look at life Review: Most romances are described in great detail: heaving bosoms, bulging biceps, vows of undying love, and, despite such exertion, an inescapable sense of insincerity. Why all the fuss just to say "I love you?"Range of Motion is a true love story. Lainey and Jay love each other with a fierce and stunning passion demonstrated not by outlandish gymnastics but by quiet, sweet rituals. And when Jay, lies in a coma as the result of a freak accident, it is these rituals that Lainey believes will bring him back to her. This story is so rich and celebratory of life and love - among spouses, among children, among friends - I often find myself thinking of the characters with absolute joy and elation. I read this book on vacation in the woods of northern Michigan. When I finished, I wiped the tears from my eyes and saw my own love standing before me. Inspired by Elizabeth Berg's beautiful book, I eagerly accepted his outstreched hand, and his gift of love this story taught me to laud and revere
Rating: Summary: LOTS OF LIFE'S TRUTHS WITHIN A STORY OF LOVE AND DEVOTION Review: One of the best things about "Range of Motion" is that the
reader really gets to know the characters, and is able to understand their motivations for the choices they make. Beyond being involved in the characters and their story, this book makes the reader think about how he/she might react in
one of those life-changing situations from which most of us
are spared.
Berg's writing is so concise; there were many instances when I read and reread a sentence or paragraph because it contained so much truth.
This book was a really pleasant surprise for me. I think anyone who enjoys books about relationships and life will
LOVE this book.
Rating: Summary: A heartwarming novel that will touch your soul Review: The ordeal Lainey goes through as her husband lays in a coma is intensely compelling. This is a beautifully written novel about the struggle of a woman as she confronts loneliness and fear to triumph as a new person. It is Elizabeth Berg's best novel to date. She has written a wonderful involving story that will leave you a different person. A must-read
Rating: Summary: Give up if you have to, but please don't. Review: Lainey's husband is in a coma. It was a stupid accidentand everyone laughs and she would too if he wasn't in acoma. The novel is so real you can feel the slight brush of heat from the characters sitting next to you. You could count their eyelashes if you wanted too, but you're too busy listening. She doesn't give up but she's not an inaccessible pillar of strength. Her strength is of the everyday. We all have it, and Berg reminds us that it's there.

Rating: Summary: Range of Motion Review: This was without a doubt one of the best books I've read in some time. Elizabeth Berg has made Lainey, the main character, so belivable. You feel like one of your best friends is hurting and there's nothing you can do about it. This book was about such sadness and pain (both for Lainey and her friend Alice), but also about profound joy, and a real appreciation for the little things in life we take for granted. I will definatly read more by this author, and recommend this book to all.
Rating: Summary: Very honest! Review: This book is about a woman whose husband is in a coma and she doesnt know if he will be able to recover. It is honest and addresses some of the questions we probably all would ask ourselves but would be ashamed to admit - what if he doesn't get better? What about me? Should I date again? The only problem I have with the book is that the characters are slightly underdeveloped, a common complaint I have about all Elizabeth Berg books. But a good read!
Rating: Summary: Berg always has Range! Review: I've read every book by Berg except this one, "Range of Motion." And every single time Berg manages to move my insides around a bit, tug at my heart, and continually make me laugh, even in the midst of tragedy... She's that kind of writer. What I love about Berg the most is her observations about life. It's like, "Yea, man. I know just what you're talking about. I've been there. I've thought the same thing." This is her greatest strength---Identifying with other women. "Range of Motion" is about a marriage. It's about Lainey who is so in love with her husband that she is willing to wait for him, love him right out of a coma. It's about believing in something so despartely that one can make impossible things happen. And of course Berg adds characters like Alice, the next door neighbor, because she adores and knows we all adore having girlfriends to lean on,confide in, love. Berg is a writer who does not let the reader down...but gives them a safe place to go, even if that place is falling apart at the seams, a light flickers in the distance as a kind of hand for us to hang on to.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic and moving Review: This is one of the few books that have brought me to tears... tears rolling down my face, dripping across my nose and onto my pillow. Elizabeth Berg never handles a situation like you'd think it would (or probably should) be; she handles it in the way in which it would truly happen. What would I really think if my husband were in a coma? No really, what would I be THINKING? It's an incredibly complicated concept, even more heart-wrenching than other books about actual death that I've read. She has a wonderful, intimate way of bringing the same hurt, confusion and intensity of emotions her characters experience into the mind and heart of her readers. It's a very genuine thing that keeps me reading her stories with open ears.
Rating: Summary: "Range of e-motion" Review: Elizabeth Berg has a wonderful way with words that women can easily relate to. She seems to know each of us intimately. Our secrets, our longings, our personal and private pain. While not all of us will be called to experience the heartache of caring for a comatose loved one, in Range of Motion, Elizabeth helps us to realize that life does not always give what we expect, but the friendship of women can serve as a strong shield against the cruelties that life hurls our way. Elizabeth is a master at meeting us where we are in life. You will laugh, you will cry, you will feel anger and fear as you immerse yourself in Range of Motion, and if you are like me, you will find it difficult to put the book down until you have absorbed the very last word.
