Rating: Summary: Breathtaking! Review: One of the best stories I've ever read since The Day of the Jackal (Frederick Forsyth) and The Bourne Identity (Robert Ludlum). Hunter definitely belongs to the elite class of adventure writers.
Rating: Summary: A rollercoaster ride of a novel Review: Now, that's what I call a thriller. I have read Tom Clancy novels and thrown them across the room unfinished in disgust at the turgid writing style, appalling characterisation and laughably half-baked philosophising. But this... First, it is well written and plotted. Second, one actually likes the hero, who is honourable, tough, resourceful and intelligent. And it has a visceral appeal that keeps you turning the pages. I lent the book to four people, each of whom loved it (though one was furious with me as he got so engrossed in it that he missed half a football game with his favourite team rather than put it down.)
Rating: Summary: Great! Review: I think reviewing a novel is best achieved by comparing it to others that most of us have read, so prospective readers have something to measure it against. So I would say that Point of Impact could be best described as a spellbinding novel of intrigue, it has the relentless pace and stunning power of war novels like The Triumph and the Glory, the plot twists of Grisham at his best, the vivid imagery of Cold Mountain, and the style and flavor of Tom Clancy's Executive Orders.
Rating: Summary: Spellbinding Review: One day during finals week a few years back I needed a book to help me get my mind off of all of my work. The college bookstore had a poor selection and nothing in my favorite genre of fiction. So I took a risk and bought this book. It took me all of a few hours to finish it as I could not put the book down. Since then I have read "Point of Impact" about 10 more times, never getting bored of it. Ever since that day I have been a HUGE Hunter fan, owning everything he has written.
Rating: Summary: LACKED IMPACT Review: I thought the book was very BLAH and BORING. The writing was cut rate to say the least. FLAT. Monotone. One dimensional. What characters? What action? What story?
Rating: Summary: Best book I've ever read? Not hardly, but pretty good! Review: I was amazed at the number of 5 star reviews. I hesitated even to review. But this is a good book. Overly long and plodding at times. The sequal is better. If you like Clancy you will like this, but keep your expectations moderate.
Rating: Summary: You won't be able to figure this one out!! Review: A very entertaining, hard to figure what's coming up next, page turner. Like all the readers before me, this one gets you hooked from the very beginning and won't let go. Can't wait for the movie. The only thing I didn't like, was all the bad language. I think the characters could have been just as believable without so much cursing.
Rating: Summary: One of the all-time Best! Review: This book rates as one of the very best in its genre that I have read. I recommend it to everyone who loves a good read. Any votes for who should play Bob the Nailer in the movie version? I have always pictured Scott Glenn as the prime candidate.
Rating: Summary: Blown Away Review: Bob-Lee Swagger did more to me than he did to villians at Ramdyne. I unfortunately have read the Swagger books out of order, starting with Time to Hunt and then Point of Impact, which gave away a few things. This book is terrific and I would recommend it to fans of Clancy.
Rating: Summary: AWESOME! Review: I second and third everyone else's comments on this book. I too have never read a better book in my life! Every friend I ever told to read Point of Impact also agreed with me. By the way I read in the paper a couple of months ago that they ARE making this into a movie!! Can't wait...
