Summary: The Best Book In My Personal Library
Review: Swaggar is back in the greatest modern thriller novel known to me. Stephen Hunter's elaborate descriptions and uncanny historical and military accuracy in his material, as well as the cliff-hangar action, and developed colorful character attitudes apparant in all of his novels made Point of Impact impossible to put down. I finished this book in one day. If you have read any of Hunter's other novels or are an action/military enthusiast, do yourself a favor by purchasing this book.

Summary: One shot - One kill!
Review: This is the original Swagger book featuring Bob the Nailer. It is also the benchmark that all the rest of Hunter's Swagger books are judged.

This is an incredibly good book! There are plot twists, action sequences, detail and humor running rampant through each page. If this book doesn't make you a life long Hunter fan, nothing will!

Summary: it's even got dimensional characters
Review: We listened to the audio version on a road trip and it was enthralling. Great plot, great action, and real people who change because of the circumstances they're in. And the reader did a great job, too. If all of Stephen Hunter's books are this good, count me in as a fan.

Summary: Incredible!
Review: Wow, this book is amazing! Well written and technically pretty good. Bob "the Nailer" is not one of those annoyingly perfect good guys that don't really exist. He has his share of problems, which are explained in the book but not dwelled on for long.

There are some pretty good reviews here that sum up the story pretty well, so I'm going to skip that. I will say that I normally read only sci-fi/fantasy and had long ago grown weary of these type of books. But the way Hunter combines the convoluted plot twists that Ludlum loves so much with the attention to detail that Clancy is so known for and then adds his own ability to tell a story in an interesting way really hooked me.

You just may find yourself shopping for a Winchester mdl 70 or a Remington 700 (in .308, of course) before the end of this one!

"One shot, one kill"

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Snappy - but infantile
Review: There's no doubt that the pace of this revenge story cracks along, and that the dialogue is smooth and snappy.

Unfortunately there is no insight into the psychological effects of murder upon those who are asked to kill. In fact, there is one passage where the dehumanisation of those who are being picked off by the novel's hero is so pronounced, I wondered how he would retain my empathy.

This book feeds into the dangerous attitude that addressing the ghosts of one's past demands the use of controlled and effective violence. This is a fantasy which of course lead to sequels for Hunter, but certainly no peace for his hero.

I suspect Hunter's an extremely intelligent author and could easily display more insight; but would it bring him as much success?

Summary: A rare treat for action thriller fans
Review: I first picked up Point of Impact second hand from my girlfriend, who had never read it. I was a fan of Tom Clancy for the technical aspects of his books, but his prose, his sometimes paper thin characters, and under-edited morality tales often left me flat.

Stephen Hunter showed me that you could write an exciting thriller, filled with action, that has good characterization, and doesn't resort to threatening the destruction of the world (or at least the US) in order to build tension.

Hunter's prose is uncluttered and direct, but his details are lavish. I understand from some shooter friends of mine that some of the technical details in the book are a bit of a stretch (like welding a firing pin...), but they were for the most part impressed with the technical accuracy of the book.

I liked this book so much, that I have become a hard core Hunter fan. If you like action thrillers, you probably will too.

This book WAS slated to become the movie "Shooter" in 2001, with Tommy Lee Jones as Bob Lee. However, talks on the project broke down and I do not know the status of it at this time. I will be there opening weekend when it does.

Summary: Best Thriller Yet!
Review: This is a great book! The characters are well drawn and theplot is seamless and complicated. There's a lot of ordnance info thatyou fellas will love and that even I thought interesting. (Not fascinating, just interesting). I generally avoid these conspiracy thrillers like Ebola Fever, but a friend told me this one was exceptional and he was right. Couldn't put it down. Come on, girls, give it a chance! It elevates the thriller genre into literature just as James Lee Burke takes the detective yarn to a higher plane.

Summary: Point of Impact
Review: This is an absolute MUST READ for those of us who both love conspiracy and the underdog. Bob Lee Swagger as the underdog, bites them all back in the end, with sheer genious (and a really crafty attorney). I have read it so many times that the cover is completely worn off. I highly recommend this book and the sequal "Black Light" - darn good reading in a tree stand.

Summary: Hunter's Best!
Review: This book is in the running for the best novel I have ever read. I have read it three times already, and I rarely reread novels. After loaning it to a friend his wife complained to me that he did not sleep until he had finished the book! After this I devoured all of Hunter's other works, but still set this one above the rest. The technical information on sniping is superb. Hunter sets you up for the climax and reels you in. If you give out any information on the content or plot of this book to someone before they read it, shame on you! An important lesson from the book (you fill in the blanks!) is: One thing you must never do to a good ol' boy from the hills of ________ is to ____ his ___. Now you just have to read it to figure that out!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Silent Souls Leave .308 Holes!
Review: I am an Ex-Special Operations veteran and an avid shooter. Mr. Hunter has done his homework! I highly recommend this great book to all service members, rifle shooters, snipers, and members of the law enforcement community. The following "Bob Lee Swagger Series", books are equally exceptional.
