Rating: Summary: Real Page Turner! Review: When it got close to the climax of the story, I truly could not turn the pages fast enough. It was very exciting. I listened to the book on tape first, while I was on a trip. When I reached my destination, there was about thirty minutes of the tape left and I just rode around for that thirty minutes because I just had to finish it. Even having heard the tape first, I really enjoyed reading the book. (The Day Before Midnight by Hunter was equally good, I thought.)
Rating: Summary: I felt like I lived in the world of Bob Lee Swagger WOW! Review: One of the best books I've read in a long time.If ever there was an author that tops Clive Cussler, it has to be Stephen Hunter. He was able to take a fantastic plot and turn it into a plausible sequence of events. You were carried along with Bob Lee on every turn of the bend. The character was exquisitely brought to life. The assassination plot was a complete surprise and chillingly executed! With each turn of events, you breathlessly follow his next move. Point of Impact is a book for anyone who enjoys action-adventure. Written with a grace that is rare for any style of book, from the beautifully orchestrated way his characters come together to the exquisite detail that permeates throughout. Stephen Hunter has a new follower who looks forward to his next book like a surfer looks forward to his next big wave. Give us more Stephen!
Rating: Summary: From the intro. to the last page,non-stop action! Review: From the time when Bob Lee Swagger meets RamDyne,to the heart stopping end,you will be on the edge of your seat with every turn of the page!If you are just starting you first Stephen Hunter novel, this is the one to begin with.
Rating: Summary: Hunter has really hit the nail on the head this time! Review: The book, Point of Impact, is a book that is about a couple of ex-Special Forces soldiers that deal with underhanded military deals that include assassination, mercenaries, murder, and blackmail. The two leaders of this illeagal organization design a plot to kill a high profile archbishop from San Salvador that is trying to reopen the investigation into the mass murder of some 200 civilians in San Salvadore. The only hitch in their plan is that they need a world-class rifleman man to do it. They pick Gunnery Seargent Bob Lee Swagger USMC (ret). Bob is an ex-Marine Corps Scout/Sniper that was one of the leading Marines in Vietnam for confirmed kills. Only thing is, Bob won't kill anymore, so they design a plan to set him up to take the fall for the murder. The only mistake they make is to underestimate Bob Lee Swagger because that is one country boy that holds a grudge. The only allies Bob has through this ordeal is a discredited FBI agent that idolizes him and the wife of his long dead friend from Vietnam. This book is not only an interesting piece of fiction, it is also technically correct and describes no superhuman feats that are not possible. Those are the very reasons why this book is so engrossing, because it really could happen! I would highly recommend this book for those interested in realistic fiction.
Rating: Summary: Bob Lee Swagger is just a bad ass, thats all there is to it Review: I have read all of the Bob Lee Swagger books, and when Stephen Hunter wrote this one he set the standard. Black Light, and Time to Hunt, are great books, but point of impact gets'em by a few notches. Bob Lee really pulls the reader into the life of the sniper, and a genius.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: This was my first Stephen Hunter book. It kept me on the edge of my set. You will not be able to put his book down.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding Book Review: "Point of Impact" is an exceptional book for the individuals who are not experts in the arts of sniping, and even for the individuals who are. This book portrays a Marine Sniper, who was in Vietnam and was not far behind Carlos Hathcock in the "confirmed kill" category. As a master marksman, the individual outsmarts his enemy and beats them at their own game. This is not informative reading about the art of sniping, but does inform the reader of different techniques a sniper would employ. This book constantly provides non-stop action that is fun and easy to read.
Rating: Summary: Pure Excitement - You never know what is next! Review: The last time I read a 500+ page book was never. This one took four days!!! You can't put it down. Bob Lee Swagger IS the most realistic character I have ever read. You are doing yourself a disservice by not reading this book.
Rating: Summary: Gotta read this one!!! Review: Hunter does a masterful job of letting us into the mind of a killer. A killer out of necessity, not for fun. I thoroughly enjoyed the section where Hunter tells about Bob shooting the HUGE buck in the woods and then........well you will just have to read the book. I couldnt put this one down and can't wait to get Time to Kill!! I too believe that this book would make a GREAT movie but then again, it couldnt possibly be as good as the book.
Rating: Summary: Best Thriller Writer, Bar None Review: I have read every work by Clancy, Patterson, Grisham, and Crichton --- All Great --- But Hunter is even better.
