Rating: Summary: A Fourth Grade Reading Expert's Review of Marl Fox Review: The book Marl Fox is so intense that you can't guess what is going to happen. This book is a mix of fiction, adventure, and mystery. The Swift Eye family is the first to see a Marl Fox. Then a traveling performance group sees it after. Who is next to see a Marl Fox? Who will save Redwall from the Marl Foxes? This book won't let you put it down. One of my favorite characters is a Marl Fox because it can become invisible. I would suggest the book because it keeps you occupied when you are bored with nothing else to do. I think people who like suspenseful fiction will like the book Marl Fox.
Rating: Summary: Marlfox:Fun, Exciting, and Mysterious!! Review: A villanious new presence is aprowl in Mossflower Woods-the family of Marlfoxes. It is said that the seven Marlfoxes are magic, they can disappear into thin air! They do not take over places, but plunders everything and brings it to their evil mother Silth. Soon the Marlfoxes reach Redwall and with their horde of rats, weasels, ferrets, and stoats, they lay seige to the building. They steal the tapestry of Martin the Warrior and brings it to Queen Silth.Dann Reguba and Song Swifteye, children of warrior squirrels travels with the young shew Dippler and Burble the water vole to the ominous island domain of the Marlfoxes and their evil leader. It takes all of of their courage and wits to go retrieve the precious tapestry and take it back to Redwall. This isn't one of my favorites in the Redwall Series. My favorite was Lord Brocktree and The Long Patrol. This book was fun, though, and I loved it!
Rating: Summary: Isn't this The Greatest Book yet?! Review: Marlfox is one of the greatest books by Brian Jaques yet, and I have no doubt that any author can beat this book (well, maybe J.K. Rowling). I started out as a Redwall fan, but I have little to remember from this fascinating book. After all, who can't get enough of action, adventure, and a little bit of suspense all smashed in a 386 page book, huh? After you read this, you just have to read the rest of Redwall's saga, first to last! It started at the library at noon. I was an eager Redwall fan, but I had to see which ones I didn't read. There was Salamandastron, The Long Patrol, and The Bellmaker, but I just couldn't seem to find a decent Redwall book. Then it came. A small glimpse of the title "Marlfox", and I knew it was "The One". Heck, I hadn't even read it so it must be "The One". Checking it out with a hefty load of other books, I was desperate to dig into it's pages as soon as I came home! The book tells of a new presence in the land of Mossflower. They are called the Marlfox, vicious breeds of foxes that wield heavy polearms and have the ability to blend in with their surroundings. Well, just as it goes, they come to Redwall and steal the beloved Tapestry of Martin! With their greatest idol gone, Redwall falls into despair, as soon they are under siege by the Marlfox. Just as things were going down for them, the spirit of Martin speaks and tells the Redwallers of four champions that will defeat the Marlfoxes once and for all. Hey, I don't want to seem unfair, but if you want to find out more, read the book! It's a lot better that way instead of me spoiling the fun for you. Just check it out from your local library, and you'll want to read all of Brian Jacques' works!
Rating: Summary: One of the Best Books! Review: Marlfox tells us a story one could only dream of. Three friends from Redwall and one from the water sets out into the dangerous world to recover the wonderful tapestry of Martin the Warrior. Danger lurks everywhere as Song, Dannflor, Burble, and Dippler sets out for Queen Silth's Hidden Lake. While the quest is on, back at Redwall Marlfoxes are attacking Redwall and is peaceful and good creatures. Would they succeed? I suggest you read it and find out!
Rating: Summary: Its to much like the others Review: "Nobeast living can hide from thee, o, thou who treads invisibly, cross hill and vale, through woods and rocks, Marlfox, Marlfox, Marlfox." For many generations Redwall Abbey, located deep in the mossflower country, has lived peacefully. Until now the mice, badgers squirrels and voles have been safe from war. The Queen Marlfox Silth, a supposed magical beast, and her children have been plotting to steal from the Abbey there valuables. When a plan goes awry the marlfoxes are stuck to choose between all out war or to surrender to the Redwall animals. They neglect the fact that all the wars the redwallers have been in they have won, putting the other army in shambles, the marlfoxes choose war. A great battle is waged on the redwall in what seems to be in the marlfoxes favor. The redwallers plan a sneak attack to win the battle, but not without a price, a spy of the marlfoxes is sent in to steal the sacred tapestry of Martin the warrior a mouse who saved redwall numerous times single handily (for more on Martin Read Redwall or Mossflower). Once the creatures realize there treasure is stolen and group of 3 young animals, Songbreeze Swifteye, a squirrel, Dannflor Reguba, a squirrel, and Dippler, a shrew, set out to find the tapestry and return it to the abbey. They trek across the whole mossflower and eventually meet a new band member Burble, an outcast watervole. They travel along a river until the reach a great lake where they see an island where the marlfoxes are staying. The rest is history. I really liked this book but I feel my attachment to the series over the past few years is a cause of that, not the book itself. The book is interesting not original it is to much like the other 12 books and I was hoping for something different. One other thing that bothered me that always has with Mr. Jacques books is the fact he writes with an accent, spelling words the way they should be pronounced. All in all it was another redwall book, I think it would have stood stronger outside a series that are all the same.
Rating: Summary: Could of had better battles Review: I am a HUGE fan of Redwall, and I will always be. This tells me that I should be more picky in my reviewing. So this is it, my first review that wasn't so good: Marlfox was an enjoyable book, it had great songs, characters, and food. But it by far has the worst villans. No, I'm not saying the villans were not cool, but they had no strength. For instance, each villan is killed easily. and a Marlfox never really kills strong warriors in one-on-one combat. and I think Mokkan could of been in the book a bit more. he was actually a good villan. But you see, there is no really good battle except Dippler vs. Fenno {and Fenno was a bad villan anyway}. But i must say, this book is enjoyable, and i liked some of the characters. but i think you should read Pearls of Lutra or Long Patrol first. Sincerly, Robert [...]
Rating: Summary: eleventh in the series Review: Marlfox, the eleventh book in Brian Jacques' Redwall series, follows the usual Jacques formula but is made fresh by a new and interesting set of villains, the mysterious Marlfoxes, and sympathetic Abbey dwellers. As usual, there are several story lines to follow, which meet up at the concluding Abbey feast: the pathetic and delusional High Queen Slith, mother of the seven marauding Marlfoxes, and brooding about Marl Castle on an island in Hidden Lake; three young Abbey dwellers who steal off in the night to redeem themselves by rescuing the stolen Redwall tapestry; the Abbey dwellers and their Dibbuns, fighting off the Marlfoxes and their army of vermin I thought all of the story lines were interesting and well written. Sometimes when you read a book like this you get attached to one story line and hurry through lesser tales until you get to the characters you really like, but in this book I really enjoyed all of the characters and their adventures. The ending was satisfying, and the descriptions of the feasts were, as usual, hunger-inducing.
Rating: Summary: Awesome twist of war and imagination Review: This book really wanted me to keep reading, I made a personal connection with a lot of the characters (mostly dannflor). The book is set in the Redwall Abbey, the forest surrounding, and castle "MARL" where the evil MARLFOXES live. The marlfoxes are magical creatures that most of the beasts in Redwall Abbey don't know if they really exist. The book is full of suprises and exitement, it can get violent, and the author gave life and soul to his character (it really does feel that way!), instead of saying " You're in great need of a bath ma'am." the moles would say " you in gurt need of ee bath marm." The characters are neat and it is hard not to connect with the characters, I personally think this is a "Gurt" book.
Rating: Summary: Crazy Queens and Evil Marlfoxes Review: "Marlfox" should be a definite edition to anyone's Redwall collection. For the latest but not the last time, Jacques gives us a stirring battle heavy novel with plenty of adventures and old friends, such as Cregga from "THE LONG PATROL". Four good friends go questing to fight the Marlfoxes, an evil dynasty of wicked foxes led by Silth, a crazed queen very similar to Tsarmina from "Mossflower". There are more feasts and new plot twists. It also includes the big island on the Big Inland Lake that we were introduced to in "Salamandastron". Watch out. They will find you. Marlfox!
