Rating: Summary: Who really killed Hector? It's worth the wait. Review: All of the characters have personal dramas that intertwine in almost impossible ways. Each of these dramas is a mini who-dun-it. Excellent vacation reading. Discover the wealthy socialite within you!!
Rating: Summary: Book was difficult to put down and I read it feversihly Review: An Inconvenient Woman became one of my favorite books as soon as I read the description of the characters attending an upscale LA funeral. The author, one of my favorites, knows these people back to front and he writes of them with insight as well as scorn. Complications in the lives of the rich and powerful have never been so keenly described but Dunne manages to make each character complete. He can write compassionately as well as comically of villains and whores and princes. The character upon whom the moral voice is attached, Phillip, is mult-dimensional and always truthful. The story reminds me of what I liked most about old Columbo episodes. Apart from that, the story holds the reader at a good pace. You definitely want to follow all of these characters, who are real enough that we can smell their Bev Hills scents and see their tucked chins. I am always impressed with D. Dunne, who has such such a gentle way with his down-and-outers. I hate to see overdrawn characters and Dunne never does this. He takes the reader between the gutters and the mansions of LA with finesse, never allowing one or the other to take the stage too long. I will read anything he writes and I hope he never stops because he is a sure voice for our times.
Rating: Summary: Reliably excellent Review: Author Dominick Dunne is more than reliable--he's an excellent writer. AN INCONVENIENT WOMAN is classic Dunne. This is a sad little history about a mistress--the "inconvenient woman" of the title--whom Dunne apparently based loosely on actress Marilyn Monroe, and about her affair with a very very rich, very very social lover. The lover, too, obviously was inspired by the saga of a famous real-life financier. Like all of Dunne's books, AN INCONVENIENT WOMAN tells the tale of the rich and famous from the point of view of an observant insider; therefore, it is chock full of juicy details. This is a book which stays with its readers long after it has been read.

Rating: Summary: Splendidly Scandalous Review: Bringing back memories of Edith Wharton and Oscar Wilde, I found An Inconvient Woman to be one of the most brilliant and entertaining novels I have ever read. Mr. Dunne's descriptions are vivid, his wit is fabulous, and his writing style is unsurpassed among most American novelists. The glamorous lifestyles of the California rich are blended so marvelously with the seedy characters of L.A. The mysteries and scandals contained in this book are unforgettable, just like the characters. After finishing the last page, I never felt so satisfied after reading a modern novel.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: Dominck Dunne's captivating tale of a wealthy man and his mistress is loosely based on the story of Vicky Morgan and Alfred Bloomingdale. Whether you followed that story or not, you will find this book hard to put down.
Rating: Summary: Very, Very Bad Writing Review: I could barely get through the book due to the very irritating and smug writing style. The overuse of phrases such as "I heard with my own ears" and "I saw with my own eyes" made me want to barf. Once you've read anything by Dominick Dunne (including articles in Vanity Fair with all of his very knowledgeable "unnamed sources")you know his writing style and the questionable validity of its content. This is of course non-fiction but so over the top and full of self-importance that if it had been written by an unknown author it would never have been accepted for publication. Garbage.
