Rating: Summary: The hysteria of a true fanatic Review: "The Hunt", or "27" as it is on my bookshelf, is a story of a fanatical Nazi, sent on an extraordinary quest to commit mass assassination in the U.S.A., and is chased by another fanatic (this one on our side), who is determined to stop him. It's a chase story - and, like all Diehl books (with the exception of "Reign In Hell") it's well plotted, well written, and populated with over-the-top characters who conduct themselves with, well, fanaticism. Yep, these two guys are way over the top, and they're fun. Dastardly Dan being chased by Dudley Do-Good. The blood flows faster than the Colorado River, and in quantities which make even that roaring river seem like a dry creek bed. The body count's right up there with the national road toll, and the detective work's compelling. There are a number of books Robert Ludlum will have read and thought to himself "I would love to write a book like this one day". However, Ludlum and James Patterson both write as though they attended the same School of Shonky Writing, so he never will. "The Hunt" or "27" is fun. You'll like it.
Rating: Summary: Hot stuff. Diehl leaves Ludlum way behind. Review: A sadistic Nazi spy, underground jewish agents, Marilyn Dietrich, and american millionares --- Diehl weaves all that was happening between 1919 and 1930s into an intricate fabric. And the result is spellbinding !! This is indeed hot stuff, guaranteed to deliver a weekend of roller-coaster ride.
Rating: Summary: Simply the best spy novel ever written Review: As a person who has read everything by Ludlum, LeCarre, Cussler, et al. there is no doubt in my mind that espionage novels reached an all time peak with this novel. Diehl has made himslef the king of the genre with this novel.
Rating: Summary: Don't waste your time on this Hunt Review: First one question: Would you trust an author to write about Adolf Hitler who doesn't know his birthdate? I wouldn't, and he didn't.
Then, are you going to wade through pages and pages of build-up for a nothing ending? I did. This 27 fellow, he's a murderer for sure, but his role in America is not believable.
Do you like retribution books? Where the so-called hero (who gets the girl, or at least one of them) shows all the bad guys, and I mean all of them, just who's boss? Then you'll love this book. It's one big retribution fantasy. Like the "hero" says, and he's quoting an Irish proverb supposedly, "Forgive, but get even first." Wow! What good advice! Good for Mafioso, terrorists, gang members, and abused spouses.
Who else wants on the retribution band wagon? Sidney Sheldon may, I guess, though I've not read his books. He liked this book, according to his blurb on the jacket, so I think he likes, and I guess he writes, similar "manly" retribution novels. Probably the authors who practice this genre think it's manly to kill the evil anti-hero. Maybe it is, but I've never tried it, so I wouldn't know. As far as reading about it, it's a total bore.
But...on the positive side, meriting a two, Diehl does weave in a lot of history, from Roosevelt to Hitler to J. Edgar Hoover to John Dillinger and the whole scene of the world in the 1930s, and Germany's pain during that time, and the German prisoner camps. In this, he does a good job. Maybe young people studying history would enjoy this book more than a textbook. The history Diehl reports is generally accurate except as mentioned above.
Diximus.
Rating: Summary: lucky find... Review: I don't recall how I stumbled onto this book but I'm glad I did. This book was so good, I was compelled to search out all of William Diehl's other books. I have read them all and enjoyed each one. Read '27'/(The Hunt) and you'll surly become a fan of Diehl's works.
Rating: Summary: this book disappoints me Review: i had high hopes that this book could entertain me as much as his Primal Fear did. however, i was wrong. this book is totaly boring! the fun part did not start until page 300. And there's one thing that made me hate this book even more. i thought Mr Diehl was a professional author, this book proved me wrong. the story of the book is a combination of Forsyth's THe Day Of THe Jackal and THe Odessa File. and i can assure you that those two books are much better than this one. i mean, except for a few changes he made, the story of this book was exactly the same as FOrsyth's two books.
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: I love books about spys, Nazi Germany, Hitler, etc. This book was a real find. I thought I had read them all. If there were a higher rating than Excellent, this book would deserve it. Recommend it extremely highly for great entertainment.

Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: I read this book quite a while a go, but I still remember it holding my attention from beginning to end. The killer in this book really creeped me out. He was so heartless. The chase was great. If you love nonstop action and a good novel to loose yourself in, this book is definitely for you.
Rating: Summary: Excellent way to spend your time! Review: I read this book under its old name "27". I loved it. I found myself asking my grandfather questions about history from that era that I hadn't known. You will not be wasting your time with this book!
