Summary: The stories create powerful virtual images
Review: It is hard to categorize Ray Bradbury as a writer. To many he is known as a science fiction writer, largely due to "The Martian Chronicles." However, he is much more versatile than that, his stories cover many different themes of life, death and strange things in between.
When I was in high school, my favorite story was "The Veldt", where a couple purchase a high quality virtual reality room for their children. However, rather than experience normal children's playrooms, they prefer constant scenes of an African veldt, complete with lions who hunt and kill their prey. The parents try to put a stop to it, but their children whine until they get to keep the veldt. However, the parents finally decide to stand firm and are going to shut the room off. At this time, the room comes alive and the lions kill and devour their parents. I considered this story so good that I must have read it at least twenty times during afternoon study hall. The imagery that the story conjures up is almost visual, which I find is a characteristic of so many of Bradbury's stories.
He is the best writer I have encountered in putting down words in a simple style that still manages to generate tremendous virtual images in your mind. This book is a collection of his short stories and I have read this book at least three times and most of the stories in it in other collections at least twice. Even after all these readings, they are still wonderful, as the images are different each time. Most stories by other writers keep my attention when I first read them, but I find them boring if I try to read them again. It does not seem that that will ever happen with Bradbury stories, which is why I strongly recommend this book.

The Stories of Ray Bradbury
by Ray Bradbury

Bradbury's best short stories are gathered together here for your pleasure! I found it to be be a wonderful way to get an overview of the author's best short story work. Well worth the price. Many of these stories (65 of them) have been produced for television's, Ray Bradbury Theater. Some of which, are available on VHS.

Trouble with Bradbury is that, he's so good at writing! The subtlety of his writing, the mood, the poetry of his descriptions. It all seems to demand a cinema solution or costly stage production or, both.

I'm fascinated by Bradbury's imaginative stories. They seem ideal for cinema, ideal vehicles to communicate the pall of illusion swept over the Nation by the Bush White House and, so wide spread as to be assumed normal (a paraphrase of John Trudell, RCD 10223). By contrast, Bradbury seems always to be toying with an alternate reality, the abnormal which, is only a thought away from being, the real.

Summary: Ever had a love affair with a book? I have.
Review: I bought a first edition in the US in 1980. It is both my favourite book and most travelled - being an essential component of my personal baggage on numerous international business trips. For someone who grew up in the golden years of science fiction and as a lover of the short story literary form, for me there is only one writer that constantly delivers fresh insights into the possible worlds around us. That writer is Ray Bradbury. He brilliantly spins a lyrical web of simple, singular ideas across the incredible landscape of his mind to captivate his readers. And this collection of stories, spanning 3 decades, reflects the multi-facets of his work. Most of my favourite stories are here. Uncle Einar. The Scythe. Marionettes,Inc. The Small Assasin. The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit. The Day It Rained Forever. The Anthem Sprinters. I am sure that new buyers will enjoy reading the stories in this collection for many years to come. As a retrospective anthology of a great genre author, it's a veritable tour de force.

Summary: A huge volume of wonderful tales.
Review: I finished this book wanting more. I cannot believe that I did not discover Bradbury's fiction before now ( I read this when I was 32 ). An amazing assortment of short stories equals an excellent read.

Summary: Ray Bradbury made me fall in love with Science Fiction
Review: I have searched and searched for this book for years and everywhere I looked people told me it was out of print. REJOICE, REJOICE!! I've finally found it!! A collection of stories that will take you on a magical journey through time, space, and all levels of psychological euphoria. Ray Bradbury is THE most brilliant science fiction writer of our time and this book reflects his ability to convey the very deepest emotion through what may seem at first glance like meerly words on a page. The best story in this book is "The Man".

Summary: Definitive Collection
Review: I pay particular attention to Ray Bradbury as an author, having read him since I was a pre-teenager. Now I'm a philosophy student in college, and despite having become much, much more 'sophisticated' in my literary tastes, I still enjoy Bradbury. I suppose you could think of me as a collector of sorts, and through the years, I have not found a better collection of his work. Bradbury is famed in the general public for "Farenheit 451," or perhaps his "Something Wicked This Way Comes," or even, occasionally, for "The Martian Chronicles." But the reader who would like to see Bradbury at his finest should pick up this collection. An eclectic, self-taught writer, Bradbury's stories carry a tremendous appeal level for me. All literary considerations aside, Bradbury surely must be the greatest living storyteller. Occasionally, he will even wax philosophical with some tremendous insights. The only difficulty with being a Bradbury fan is that he has written SO MUCH that it's tough to even begin to keep track of. But, if I had to recommend one starting point, I'd choose this anthology. And it's at a reasonable price, to top it off.

Summary: The stories leave me thinking.
Review: I was not dissapointed with any of the stories. There's nothing like the science fiction Ray Bradbury writes. Each short story kept me captivated and wanting more from the characters. A real good read for thought provoking conversation.

Summary: This collection is the definitive anthology for any fan.
Review: I've been a Ray Bradbury fan for 23 years, since I first read my brother-in-law's copy of Something Wicked This Way Comes and it scared the living daylights out of me. This fantastic anthology encompasses the best of his work, including stories from the Martian Chronicles, works on the wonderful, truly fly-by-night Family, his Mexican mummy stories, and one of the most heartwrenching sea monster stories ever written, The Fog Horn. Readers of Dandelion Wine will be interested in preliminary and alternate versions of some of those stories, which also appear here. This book would be a wonderful gift for any Bradbury fan anywhere.

If you were a fan of the series "The Twilight Zone", you will love these stories. If you like science fiction in general you will love these stories. If you are a devotee at literature at its best, you will never forget these stories. Add this to your collection today!
