Rating: Summary: learn more sounds than you can shake a cow at Review: Mr. Brown can moo, whisper, buzz, and boom . . . and that's just for starters. There are about a dozen different sounds to make along with Mr. Brown and all the sounds bear a pretty close resemblance to the originals (bees buzz, cows moo, thunder booms, etc.) with a few creative interpretations. Okay, so your child may be the only one saying "dibble-dibble-dibble dopp-dopp-dopp" for rain, instead of maybe "pitter-patter. The pictures are simple - pretty much just Mr. Brown and each animal or item - no extraneous background drawings. My 2-year old daughter's favorite part of the book is the last page, where they list all the sounds in the book. Moo moo, buzz buzz, pop pop, klopp, and so on. She likes to try and repeat them with me really fast. Try adding some action along with the words, put all the tips of your fingers together to make a bee, rap on the book for a knock, put a finger to your lips for a whisper, etc. Oh, never mind reading all the reviews. It's a good book! Just buy it !
Rating: Summary: You gotta love the fabulous Mr. Brown! Review: I don't think there's one Dr. Seuss book that I can't recall being read to me when I was somewhere in the under-10 age. Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You? stands out in particular. How could a child forget the first time mom makes those delightful noises to go with the pictures in a book? It's the stuff of high comedy and intense interest to three-year-olds everywhere.Mr. Brown is a funny little man dressed to the nines (in dapper brown of course) who can imitate all sorts of noises like a wiz. You'd better be prepared to go beyond barnyard animal sounds, too - lightening cracks, goldfish kisses, and a hippo chewing gum (which is GRUM GRUM, for those of you who don't know!). The book prompts children to try and match Mr. Brown's sounds in a nice, low-pressure way. I'm not sure if this book has ever received official recognition for its educational value to young children, but as far as I'm concerned MBCMCY is a wonderful tool for teaching kids to be better observers, listeners, and responders to their surroundings. Better yet, it introduces parents to the fine art of interactive reading. -(...)
Rating: Summary: The best book for baby Review: My son loves this book. I started reading it to him at 5 months old. He enjoys the sounds and bright pictures. He is now one years old and all I have to do is hold up the book and he gets a huge smile on his face. This book is a keeper.
Rating: Summary: Dr. Seuss inspires parents and kids to make wonderful noises Review: In the old days it was Old MacDonald who had a farm and on this farm he had a cow, duck, and all sorts of other animals, each of which made a particular sound that can be imitated. But then along game Mr. Brown, a creation of Dr. Seuss, who makes Old MacDonald look like the strong silent type. That is because as we learn in "Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You?: Dr. Seuss's Book of Wonderful Noises," Mr. Brown can do more than "moo" like a cow, "buzz" like a bee, and go "hoo hoo hoo hoo" like an owl. Mr. Brown can go "pop" like a cork, "eek eek" like a squeaky shoe, and even make the sound of a hippopotamus chewing gum. I think one of the reasons this is a popular book with beginning readers is not only because kids enjoy making all these noises, but also because parents and other adults get to embarrass themselves in making the sounds on these pages come alive (or a reasonable facsimile thereof). Trying to make the sound of the rain or a big cat drinking is not too hard, but doing a very hard noise to make like the sound of lighting (which is a "splatt" apparently) or a noise like a goldfish kiss ("pip") might be pushing the envelope too much. Of course, you can make up any sound you want when you are reading this to very young children. But you have to keep in mind that the whole point of these Bright and Early Books for Beginning Beginners is to inspire them to read on their own one day, which means you can look forward to being confronted by an indignant young child demanding to know how the noise you made every time you read them the book has anything to do with what is highlighted on these pages. So be forewarned, that sooner or later you are going to be embarrassed reading this book.
Rating: Summary: Fun for all Review: I purchased this book for my two year old daughter at Christmas. It has since become a favorite at our house. We have fun making the noises toghether. In fact, she can now repeat all of the noises and can even apply them to other pictures. The rhythem of the book is easy and fun. A great choice for parents.
Rating: Summary: Moo Buzz Pop Klopp Dibble Dopp Tick Tock & More! Review: This little board book is so much fun -- my three month old is mesmerized by it. It's appropriately subtitled as "Dr. Seuss's Book of Wonderful Noises" -- and it certainly runs through the range of noises. This book goes beyond the introductory cows go moo into a much broader range of sounds -- bees buzzing, corks popping, horses klopping, rain dibble dibble dopping. There is also reference to a soft whisper, so the reader can use a range of dynamics. The illustrations are classic Seuss - Mr. Brown is an odd little fellow with a tall brown hat, a spriggly mustache under his nose, and a haughty chin-in-the-air demeanor. The animals range from the semi-realistic to floppy-footed bizarre. Overall, this book is a delight that should keep any little one entertained for a few minutes.
Rating: Summary: *Mr. Brown Can Moo!* Review: This is such a fun book. The sounds are so fun and kids love to make them while reading the book. I enjoy reading this book to the kids because they can have fun and learn at the same time.
Rating: Summary: Make some noise! Review: Another great children's story from the doctor named Suess. In this story is a man named Mr. Brown, who makes a plethera of odd noises, and asks the reader to make noises along with him. If your child enjoys making alot of odd noises, (or just alot of noise), pick them up a copy of this book, I'm sure they will enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: Weird Noises Mr. Brown Can Do Review: Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You? is a great book. It's funny because Mr. Brown makes a lot of funny noises such as "a cow, bee, horse, roster, owl, whisper like a butterfly, a cat slurping, hippo, and a goldfish kiss." Mr. Brown can also make other noises. He can make the sound of a "cork pop, squeaky shoes, rain, train, horn, clock, door knock, egg sizzling, thunder, and lightning. Everybody will like this book because it has great noises.
Rating: Summary: All of my children love this book--even at birth! Review: It began innocently enough. Being the over zealous first mother, I read to my baby #1 continually. I noticed he responded more to this book and it soon became a favorite. My daughter who's the 3--the baby now--routinely brings this book to us to be read. She adores all the sounds and the silly combinations. She mimics them and laughs, claps her hands with glee. Mr. Brown can MOO and so can my children!
