Rating: Summary: Fabulous page turning book! Review: This book was one of the best I have ever read and I read approximately 2 books a week. To say that I couldn't put it down is an understatement. I got off the phone with my mother, fiance and boss to finish it. It's one of the first espionage books I read that - due to the author - I believe could actually be true. I'm a woman and generally stick to books with women or family-centered themes. NO MORE! I've read 2 of his books and Demille is now one of my three favorite authors. Great job!`
Rating: Summary: I called in sick to work so I could stay home and finish it! Review: this book was clearly a page turner! i can't remeber a book that kept me intrigued as this one did. his dialogue is witty and funny, and description of events was exceptional.
Rating: Summary: This book rocks! Review: If you read only one book this year, this is it! I love DeMille, and this is definitely his best work. Even if you are not into politics and cold war fiction, DeMille makes it easy to follow and interesting. Exciting plot with twists and turns around every corner. You never know what is coming next!
Rating: Summary: ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS EVER!!!! Review: Great book, full of action, suspense and humor, but it is also a wonderful, warm love story. I wish Sam Hollis were a real person. His intensity in trying to find the truth about the charm school and loving Lisa made him very attractive. I sure wish I had met him!
Rating: Summary: The suspense was what you hope for in a spy book. Review: This was such a great book to read. I found my heart rate beating so fast at more than one point in this book! DeMille's style was completely captivating.
Rating: Summary: Living in Europe made this more believable. Review: I have just become a DeMille fan within the last month and have read all but 3 of his books. I couldn't put this one down as he made this so believable. A very realistic setting in Russia and government policies. Being in Europe since the cold war has ended and living amongst and going to school with many Russians makes a person think. Keep up the good work DeMille.
Rating: Summary: Incredible depth, characterization, and plot! Review: Another DeMille masterpiece -- to say that this is a page-turner understates it. As with his other books, these are _real_ people, in real situations that are extraordinary because they transcend the experiences of most of us. Unlike most books of this complexity, there are no "brooks too broad for leaping" here. Moreover, the book was so gripping that for forty pages near the end you could have done surgery on me without anesthesia. Well done, DeMille -- it's too bad that Hollywood hasn't made Word of Honor, Cathedral, Plum Island, Gold Coast, or Charm School into movies. (The General's Daughter is being made into a movie, but this novel has the least depth of any of DeMille's that I've read.)
Rating: Summary: WHAT A 'CHARM'ER!!! Review: I have recently become a huge Nelson DeMille fan and in the past two months read ove half his books. 'THE CHARM SCHOOL' is by far DeMille's most gripping read. The action of Mr. DeMille's book is constant throughout the book, which is my only minor criticism of some of his other books. 'THE CHARM SCHOOL' walks the thin line between unrealistic, unbelievable and 'Yes, this really could have happened.' What impressed me the most about this book was Mr. DeMille's ability to draw you into an old sotry (USA vs. USSR) without demonizing either. Instead, he created an intricate web of good guys and bad guys evenly distributed among both sides. He respected the Soviet Union's position and refused to demonize (this is not to say he glorified it). Even better than that the action of this book is amazing. I was so drawn into the finale, which is intricately unwound in a fast pace series of events that last a good 100 pages instead of 10 like so many other 'action/ suspense' books. This is the perfect summer reading book that will hold you attention, tell an old story in a new way, and give you an appreciation for Russian and Soviet Union culture (the old and the communist).QUITE AMAZING!
Rating: Summary: GREAT STORY!!! Best book I've ever read!!! Bar none. Review: An excelent story that takes place in Russia. In an attempt to carbon copy American culture, the KGB kidnaps U.S. soldiers to teach the American "charm" to their KGB recruits. Experience the atmosphere of actually being abroad in the Soviet Union with great detail. You will surely not put this book down until you finish it.
Rating: Summary: This is a very well developed and suspenseful book. Review: I thought that DeMille had well-developed characters that you could believe. I feel he portrayed our government very realistically in what they might do in this situation. I loved the suspense and the speed at which this book went. I also found the book to be very disturbing about the pilots and the Soviets living as Americans in America. It really makes you think. It is one of the best books I have read in a long time!
