Summary: otherwise unengaging
Review: This book couldn't have been THAT bad because I read the entire thing. But the main character is kind of sickening. She spends half the book feeling sorry for herself and the other half doing things that make it impossible for the reader to feel sorry for her because she brings most of them upon herself. Unfortunately, the book sounds very autobiographical, which gives you the feeling this is based on how a real person thinks and feels and is not just a figment of someone's incredible imagination. This makes it all the MORE annoying.
HOWEVER--the book is extremely well written---beautifully crafted and full of fresh, sharp images. I almost think it would have been better as a nice, short poem. The author could have clustered all the beautiful metaphors onto a page or two and spared the reader the agony of pages and pages of explicit self-pity.

Summary: This one well worth your time it's a gem of a book!
Review: I had to give this one 5 Stars. I could find nothing wrong with it. It was very enjoyable to read and really quite funny . Some of the things the character was feeling and saying I could even relate too and I'm not "engaged" and have been married many, many years. It was fun and when I turned the last page I didn't want it to end. I sure hope she follows up with a sequel or with anything. This writer has a gift.

Summary: This adventure is not just for brides!
Review: As an old "bride" of 25 years, I found Otherwise Engaged to be a rare treat in reading these days. It made me laugh, cry, comiserate with The Realtionship and absorbed me in it's wit and warmth.
More than that, Eve's ability to describe evoked all of my senses and my heart. I feel that I have two very intimate friends out there somewhere named Eve and Michael. I do not know what happened to my wedding invitation-it must have been lost in the mail.
I was devastated when the story closed and I am hungry to know more of Eve and Michael. I have not felt so much a part of a story in a long time and I hope there will be more.
This old bride LOVED this hilarious and engaging adventure.

Summary: Entertaining And Funny
Review: This was a good, quick read. There were some definite laugh out loud parts, and parts that every woman could relate to. The only disappointment was that this couple did not seem like the best match, or as if they were getting married for the right reasons. The main character is not the most likeable or stable person in many instances, and she is a bit manipulative. While this is a great read for those who are engaged or recently married. You will definitely get some good laughs and will relate with at least parts of the book. For example -- socks on the floor are not just socks on the floor, they are socks on the floor for the rest of your life!

Summary: Not for wide-eyed idealists
Review: I LOVED this book! The sugary cover art had me a little skeptical at first, but I was happily surprised to find something totally opposite of the stereotypical fluffy, sappy story of true love and romance. As a woman who married at 35, I found Eve's perspective very real. Although I didn't go through the extreme ups and downs during my engagement that Eve did, I indentified strongly with her struggles, from the thought that a sock on the floor could lead to a life of cleaning up after her fiance', to her bad bouts of PMS (or as one of Eve's friends calls it "Pardon Me, Sybil"). Suzanne Finnamore has written a very funny, very honest story of one woman's engagement, and shows that not everyone glides dewy-eyed and lovestruck through the process.

To be fair, I'm letting Suzanne Finnamore's work stand on its own - and I'm a big fan of BJD. I LOVED "Otherwise Engaged" and I agree with the other reviewer who said the perspective in this book clearly illustrates the differences between getting engaged in your mid-twenties and getting engaged in your mid-thirties. I cannot wait for Ms. Finnamore's next novel.

Summary: EXCELLENT! Seriously!
Review: I expected a Bridget Jones-ish quick read, but I got much more. The book is intelligent and thought-provoking! It drew me in and kept me turning pages until I was finished. One of those books you hate to see end!! Wonderful insights on the engagement process, love, and life in general. Great dialogue! Do read!

Summary: Not quite what I expected....
Review: I read this book while in the middle of planning my own wedding. I thought it would be something I could relate to, based on what I read on the back cover. It's wasn't quite what I expected and left me feeling a little short-changed. I had expected alot more from this book.

Summary: Quick, funny read!
Review: As a newlywed - my matron of honor thought I'd enjoy this one. The craziness of planning a wedding event while determining if this man is 'the one' that you can spend the rest of your life with through life's twists and turns. I usually stick with non-fiction, but I'm glad she shared this with me - I was laughing out loud. I wish I'd written it!

Summary: Good luck to Eve
Review: The story is about this lady, Eve, in her mid-thirty, who has been desperately try to push her boyfriend to marry her, out of desperation of getting married. Even the engagement itself came with an ultimatum. "Can't we wait until after?" "No, you have to ask me now," she said.

Next, the wedding planning which mostly involved in how she could talk herself into getting married rather than the caterer, flower or invitation. It involved her shrink, Rueben who didn't do a better job than a Valium (she should have listen to Dr. Phil in Oprah for free, instead of paying him $135/hour), her dying gay friend, Dusty, her girlfriends - one of whose marriage is about to fall apart, and petty fights in which she repeatedly throw the ring back at her poor fiance Michael.

If her wedding is way too real, no wonder the statistic is what it is right now. "Most of them do fail. Sixty-eight percent. I know all the figures now," she said.

Easy to read and entertaining. However, I can hardly find the humor in this poignant story.

Summary: Disappointing.........
Review: I found this book to be a disappointing read on the whole. Like many of the other readers I agree that one or two sentences were amusing. From the online reviews I noted that there were more positive reviews than negative reviews. I tend to read the reviews to get 'a feel' as to whether I might enjoy reading a book or not, but in this case I was sorely disappointed from the unset. This is not to say that the author does not have a talent for writing, as a bride to be I found one or two things in the book that I could relate to. However, I feel that others who held similar opinions to mine summed up what was wanting in this novel.
